One possible solution is to combine learning-by-doing principles with gaming elements to create immersive and interesting virtual environments. Unfortunately, the level of programming required to create such environments makes it prohibitive for most educators. We describe the graphical interactive fiction toolkit, GIFT, system we have created that allows educators and writers to easily create interactive stories. The aim for formalization is to offer a properly structured framework for the integration of diactics. To do so, the paper introduces a new data structure for managing electronic content for e-learning purposes, the so-called content graph. On the base of this formalism the basic steps of an algorithm are discussed, which allows a step-by-step deriving of an individual learn path. Content graph and basic algorithm together make it possible to ask precise questions about the integration of didactical aspects. On this level, the paper does not intend to solve didactical problems, but it tries to specify the problems and makes them easier to handle by cutting the entire \"didactics\"-discussion into smaller, well defined, and modular questions.","PeriodicalId":291817,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies, 2004. The project designs, develops, tests and evaluates a handheld learning environment based on emerging technology that facilitates in situ learning and maximize the impact of information that is provided when the motivation of the learner is highest. The goal is to shift away from classroom learning to \"daylong\" learning and to use the mobile technology to facilitate that shift. A comprehensive model consisting of 4 evaluation criteria are developed and used: task performance, structural knowledge, heuristics, and cognitive effort. On these criteria, debriefing versus no debriefing are compared. A content package is described by metadata and optionally incorporates IMS simple sequencing rules and an IMS learning design, both of which are hard-coded when the package is created. Though these provide some measure of adaptation, the paths through the learning material are pre-determined at design time and it is clear that the current specifications are not robust enough to support the kind of adaptation that caters to the need of all types of learners. In this paper, we propose that Web services can be used to support the dynamic adaptation of content for different learners based on the content packaging specification. We identify the kinds of Web services that would be useful and explain how these services are connected to content packages of reusable online resources. Based on ABC and ToK architecture, the emotion agent architecture contains five modules to realize the interaction in the world. A particular part of this research is the transition between emotion space in emotion module and facial expression space in facial expression module.
