The counts recorded by AC are used to be one of the grading criteria for the students' performance. Students can look others' achievement via the AC website, and may want to compete with others either they are classmates or not. Through the counts recorded by AC and the final scores given from other learners, this paper evaluates the possible competitive conditions and its relations between counts and scores.","PeriodicalId":291817,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies, 2004. Cyber theater provides the capability of easy making the 3D-CG animation of children's story by using script language named CTSL (Cyber Theater Scenario Language). We hope schoolteachers are able to use cyber tales as teaching materials in elementary school. We also hope that upper-aged pupils (including junior high school and high school) are able to make their original 3D-CG animation stories. We call it creative lesson. Creative lesson uses the CTSL Learning Kit (CLKit), which includes several sample scenarios written by CTSL. CLKit is designed for learning how to make the 3D-CG real time animation. In this paper, we report the details of CLKit and the results of experiment of creative lesson.","PeriodicalId":291817,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies, 2004. A lot of approaches have been developed to improve educational processes in this field. The implementation of these approaches however often lacks success, the decision for an appropriate approach is difficult. The following article suggests a formal approach to collect experiences and recommendations to help users of quality approaches enhance their success. The contextualization of experiences will help to transfer them from one specific situation to a different context. The suggested approach is a development of the European Quality Observatory, an observatory platform for quality approaches in European e-learning.","PeriodicalId":291817,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies, 2004. In the second year of the medical curriculum, anatomical pathology plays a crucial role, and the shortage of trained staff threatened to damage the quality of education. Although information technology (IT) could be used to solve the problem, this would need to be performed within the restraints of available resources within a substantially poorer IT environment than is found in developed countries. This paper describes the processes involved in using the online teaching environment, WebCT, to resolve these problems. We detail the assumptions and decisions we made about students, resources, and choices regarding approaches and methods of content delivery. In addition, we describe the student usage patterns, evaluations, refinements, successes and failures. Finally, we end with the new knowledge that has taken us into the next year of implementation.","PeriodicalId":291817,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies, 2004. In this panel discussion, we would like to examine the meanings/ecology of \"collaborative learning\" again and explore the new technologies of communications which evokes and enhances it. In this panel discussion, we aim to understand and share the concept of computer/Internet supported collaborative learning, and then we explore the technologies of collaborative tools and infrastructure to promote collaborative learning in consideration of the image of new e-pedagogy for collaborative learning. To cultivate students' critical thinking capability and encourage collaborative peer learning, the new learning model also requests students to criticize others' solutions and to reply others' arguments. With the multimedia supporting tools, students are more easily to communicate with each other about what they think and how they solve mathematical problems by using the electronic blackboard and voice recording tools. After analyzed the recorded information with statistical method, we found that the performance of female students is superior to those male students in communications and mathematical problem solving. Additionally, students with higher final exam grades have better mathematical abilities of doing critiques, arguments and communications.","PeriodicalId":291817,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies, 2004. In this paper an approach to this problem is presented, based on methodologies one can find in fuzzy logic and neural networks. The so-called fuzzy cognitive map becomes a powerful tool in this case, as it has been proved in other applications to. The reason, which leads to such approach, is mainly the observation of uncertainty in learner's profile description. Therefore, classes in any classification of learner's profile are considered as fuzzy sets and are represented as vertices of a fuzzy cognitive map.","PeriodicalId":291817,"journal":{"name":"IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies, 2004.
