Due to improper image acquisition systems, MRI images are generally corrupted by intensity inhomogeneity (IIH) or intensity nonuniformity (INU). Conventional methods try to segment MRI images using only spatial information about the distribution of pixel intensities and are highly sensitive to noise and the IIH or INU. This paper presents a method to segment MRI brain images by considering the INU and spatial information using fuzzy C-means (FCM) clustering algorithm. Firstly, the INU of MRI brain image is corrected using fusion of Gaussian surfaces. The individual Gaussian surface is estimated independently over the different homogeneous regions by considering its center as the center of mass of the respective homogeneous region. Secondly, the IIH corrected image is segmented using probabilistic FCM algorithm, which considers spatial features of image pixels. The experiments using 3D synthetic phantoms and real-patient MRI brain images reveal that the proposed method performs satisfactorily.","PeriodicalId":274831,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Communications, Devices and Intelligent Systems (CODIS)","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130666117","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three rectangular microstrip antennas namely wash cotton antenna, polyester antenna and polyester combined cotton antenna are considered in this preliminary study. Each of these three antennas is assumed to be placed in the vicinity of human torso with an air gap of 1 mm between torso and antenna. In this study, the human torso has been modeled as a lossy medium of fluid with permittivity and conductivity close to human torso at a frequency of 2.45 GHz. The results obtained indicate that the wearable antenna can provide required impedance and radiation characteristics even when it is placed in the vicinity of human body.","PeriodicalId":274831,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Communications, Devices and Intelligent Systems (CODIS)","volume":"63 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113992037","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In case of handwritten document images, presence of skewed, touching or overlapping text line(s) makes this process a real challenge to the researcher. In the present work, a new text line extraction technique based on Spiral Run Length Smearing Algorithm (SRLSA) is reported. Firstly, digitized document image is partitioned into a number of vertical fragments of equal width. Then all the text line segments present in these fragments are identified by applying SRLSA. Finally, the neighboring text line segments are analyzed and merged (if necessary) to place them inside the same text line boundary in which they actually belong. For experimental purpose, the technique is tested on CMATERdb1.1.1 and CMATERdb1.2.1 databases. The present technique extracts 87.09% and 89.35% text lines successfully from the said databases respectively.","PeriodicalId":274831,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Communications, Devices and Intelligent Systems (CODIS)","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127779190","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Area control error (ACE) is used for the control of power system with battery energy storage system. The controllers design problem is formulated as an optimization problem. The genetic algorithm (GA) is used to search for optimal settings of controller gains. Time domain simulations are used to study the performance of the power system and BES system. Results reveal that BES meets requirements of real power load and very effective in reducing the peak deviations of frequency and tie-power and also reduces the steady state values of time error.","PeriodicalId":274831,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Communications, Devices and Intelligent Systems (CODIS)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126416931","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Exchange of information amongst various hospital and medical centers require high level of reliability and security. Signal integrity can be verified, authenticity and achieved control over the copy process can be proved by adding watermark in the original information as multimedia content. Electrooculography (EOG) is a medical test that records the movements and position of the eyes. In this present work, Low distortion Prediction-error Expansion technique is used for watermark insertion and extraction in an EOG signal without devalorizing its diagnostic parameters. It can be seen that in this approach the correlation value of the original watermark and the extracted watermark is quite high. The Signal-to-Noise ratio (SNR) between the original EOG signal and the recovered EOG signal markedly improves which claims the robustness of the method. In the second part of the present work different features of the original EOG signal, watermarked EOG signal and recovered EOG signal are analysed.","PeriodicalId":274831,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Communications, Devices and Intelligent Systems (CODIS)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131989460","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Accordingly, the system architecture demanded better development to suit the rising demand for the technological advancements. Miniaturizations of components and VLSI integration have given rise to bulk advanced memory chips being grafted on even smaller amount of space thus giving access to higher amount of physical memory within exhaust limits of average applications. But the low end processors having limited memory still crave for fast applications, which are slowly going out of bounds for these devices due to the space and time complexity. The four elementary operations - addition, subtraction, multiplication and division form the basis for any type of application. Out of the four, the latter one, namely division, is a highly expensive and time consuming operation. This paper proposes a fast division algorithm based on Ancient Indian Vedic Mathematics Sutras for low end processors having limited memory. The novelty of the algorithm is that it requires a very small amount of memory for execution but performs the division mechanism much faster than the conventional division algorithms in literature, and is equally suitable for high end processors also. The algorithm has been tested on conventional mid range desktop processors and has furnished results with numbers having number of bits greater than 50 (15 digit numbers), the upper ceiling of computable numbers for conventional algorithms. It has been observed that the Vedic Division Algorithm can divide numbers having up to 38 digits (127 bits) in the present form, if modified it can divide even bigger numbers.","PeriodicalId":274831,"journal":{"name":"2012 International Conference on Communications, Devices and Intelligent Systems (CODIS)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132030758","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
