This determines the two-dimensional nature of the ongoing climate policy, which, on the one hand, is aimed at adapting to climate change, and on the other hand, at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Answering the question posed in the article about how adequate the current climate policy is to the tasks set, the author comes to the conclusion that despite the progress made in the development of green technologies and improving the efficiency of energy resources, Singapore remains dependent on the use of fossil fuels and a hostage to the ongoing economic policy in damage to environmental interests.","PeriodicalId":269478,"journal":{"name":"Southeast Asia: Actual Problems of Development","volume":"347 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115412443","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cambodia, represented by Prime Minister Hun Sen, took over the baton as ASEAN Chairman, Singaporean diplomat Noelene Heizer was appointed Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General to Myanmar. Cambodia's Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn replaced Erivan Yusof as ASEAN's Special Envoy for Myanmar. The Prime Minister of Cambodia caused dissatisfaction of his ASEAN colleagues and outrage of the world community due to his visit to Myanmar a week after officially taking office. The first visit of the head of State to Myanmar after the military coup was perceived as ensuring the legitimacy of the military administration. At the same time, due to a misunderstanding between the guest and the host party on the issue of the release of an Australian citizen, the leader of Cambodia \"lost face\". Noelene Heizer underestimated the power of public opinion. She was fiercely attacked by opponents of the military regime because of the use of an unsuccessful thesis about the \"division of power\". The Office of the Special Envoy tried to \"save face\" by insisting that Heizer had never suggested power sharing as an option, and the interview with N. Heizer was misinterpreted. The mission of the new ASEAN Special Envoy, Prak Sokhonn, was not crowned with great success either. During his visit to Myanmar, he met only with representatives of the regime and did not meet with all interested parties, which contradicts the five-point consensus.","PeriodicalId":269478,"journal":{"name":"Southeast Asia: Actual Problems of Development","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115682254","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although extant studies offer explanations of the BRI implementation in Southeast Asia, as well as of the performance of ethnic Chinese entrepreneurs in those countries, they have fallen short of developing an integrated research approach to the role of ethnic Chinese businessmen in making the foundations of the BRI in Southeast Asia long-term and sustainable. The article analyses the place of Southeast Asia in the PRC’s BRI priorities, substantiated by Beijing’s support for entrepreneurial associations embracing business persons of the Chinese origin in Southeast Asian states, as well as main features of Chinese companies in those countries and Chinese practices of making and maintaining commercial contacts. In the author’s view, although the BRI expansion in Southeast Asia has become self-maintaining and self-reproducing, in the years to come, the PRC’s commercial practices will have to be partially adopted to expectations of Southeast Asian business community, mostly, ethnic Chinese entrepreneurs.","PeriodicalId":269478,"journal":{"name":"Southeast Asia: Actual Problems of Development","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128949757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Until that time, the Thais did not have a unified system of names. Different social groups used various forms of naming a person. The unification of the naming system, including the introduction of last names in 1913, took place under the influence of Western culture, but taking into account existing traditions. A key component of the electoral campaign of the ruing Cambodian People’s Party which significantly influenced its impressive result was the announcement regarding the forthcoming change in political elites and their rejuvenation. Hun Manet has been put forward as the prime ministerial candidate. The exact timing of this fundamental shift in political elites has so far not been confirmed. Among the opposition parties, the Candlelight Party, which took 20 percent of the votes, showed the best result. Some parties insisted on the idea of uniting efforts and creating some sort of common structure which would improve their chances of success for parliamentary elections. However, the Cambodian opposition does not have a strong experience of consolidated actions.","PeriodicalId":269478,"journal":{"name":"Southeast Asia: Actual Problems of Development","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121257769","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These are the 1997 Asian financial crisis, the 2008 global financial crisis and the corona crisis from early 2020 to the present. All three cases reveal similarities in ASEAN’s response models to socio-economic shocks, which is limited to three tools. In the analyzed cases active \"institution building\" in Southeast Asia can be identified. It included the launch of formal and informal committees, platforms, and ad hoc response centers. To a lesser extent, this is relevant to ASEAN's response to the 2008 crisis. With the exception of the global financial crisis, the greatest contribution to the stress-resistance of the association was made by ASEAN dialogue partners, which, as experience shows, led to an increased dependence of the member-states on financial assistance from extra-regional actors. This is clearly exemplified by cooperation in the ASEAN+3 format. A similar instrument to ensure ASEAN's resilience in all three cases is the reliance on foreign trade liberalization and promotion of free trade agreements. This instrument became particularly necessary after the global financial crisis of 2008, when the Association developed an exten-sive FTAs system.","PeriodicalId":269478,"journal":{"name":"Southeast Asia: Actual Problems of Development","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122812982","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
