This argument is substantiated by infrastructure, institutional and regulatory factors. The authors explore the activity of convenience store chains in Southeast Asian countries and distinguish their intra-country and pan-regional specificity to finally reveal the extent to which franchising has proved effective for developing this business across the region. Premised on the analysis of Japanese convenience store chain 7-Eleven, the authors conclude that although franchising has been efficiently implemented by 7-Eleven, the obtained results are a function of broader macro-factors generated by Japanese industrial and technological policy in Southeast Asia as key prerequisites for success. The article adds academic and expert value to the existing literature on ASEAN, as it analyzes the ASEAN Economic Community from a trans-border franchising perspective in Southeast Asia, since this analytical focus has been absent to date.","PeriodicalId":269478,"journal":{"name":"Southeast Asia: Actual Problems of Development","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121779808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was a turning point for the entire world order and reverberated in many areas of the globe. The Asia-Pacific was also no exception. While the United States and its allies tried to impose a negative attitude to Russia's actions on the world, the reaction of the Asia-Pacific countries was more restrained. On this background, it seems necessary to analyze the perception of situation in the South Pacific, the traditional leader of which — Australia — largely adheres to the U.S. foreign policy vector, while among the Pacific Island Countries there's a growing demand for a more sovereign course. The analysis of the reaction of regional actors to the SMO requires a comprehensive approach, which is why the author analyzed the current situation in political, economic and social dimen-sions.","PeriodicalId":269478,"journal":{"name":"Southeast Asia: Actual Problems of Development","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129478036","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These powers announced the establishing of a trilateral security pact AUKUS on September 15, 2021. The U.S. will transfer nuclear submarine technology to Australia but the nature of AUKUS implies a broader technological interaction between the parties. Despite the Anglosphere's attempts to indicate that their actions aren't directed against any power, all their actions reveal intensifying rivalry with the People's Republic of China (PRC). This article examines the nature of AUKUS and the reasons for its appearance. Special attention is paid to the influence of the alliance on the Fifth Continent's defense capabilities and its domestic policy dimension. In Thailand, significantly superior in terms of economic development and standard of living, those relations are considered as senior-junior relationships. At the same time, Laos, very close to Thailand in ethno-confessional terms, accept from Thailand various forms of traditional patronage.
