Since verification effort takes about 70% of the time of the design phase, it is important to expedite the simulation process in order to reduce the overall verification effort. Modeling-based techniques play an important role towards achieving the speed-up by expediting many subtasks of the overall verification process. In this paper we present a study of the different modeling techniques that are primarily used for semi-formal verification of modern-day industrial digital and mixed-signal designs and the efficacy of the same for achieving the verification speed-up.","PeriodicalId":262830,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Students Technology Symposium (TechSym)","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133839591","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unfortunately only a minute fraction of them have access to Advanced Assistive Devices (AAD) which are still very expensive and beyond affordability for a major portion of the people in India. Moreover, such devices generate text messages or speech mostly in English which makes them unusable by a majority of the Indian population. Thus it should be our endeavour to make these assistive devices accessible to the common multitude. This paper briefly describes a portable version of Sanyog, an Augmentative and Alternative Communication(AAC) tool developed in India which caters to Indian multilingual needs. The communication tool is based on an iconic query-response interface. The system is currently available in English, Bengali and Hindi versions. It is used in a range of Indian institutions serving children with speech and motor impairments.","PeriodicalId":262830,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Students Technology Symposium (TechSym)","volume":"119 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126891133","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But the performance of these has been sluggish due to the restriction of the common bus architecture espoused by these systems and thereby low processing speeds. This has been the main stumbling block for scalability in terms of computation and enhancement in its performance. With the advancement in semi conductor devices and fabrication technology, it is possible to pack more logic in smaller area of silicon. But the implementation of these mega functional modules using common bus architecture, parallel bus architecture, pipelining are becoming ineffective and posing a bottleneck in terms of performance and throughput in this billion transistor era. As an elucidation for this problem, Network on chip is being adopted in this paper as the core bus architecture across different spectrum of SOCs. Our approach presents a supple design using FPGA based system. Hence, it is a very flexible network design that will accommodate to various needs.","PeriodicalId":262830,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Students Technology Symposium (TechSym)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121226920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

So enhancing the performance of the 1-bit full adder cell is a significant goal. The present study proposes an energy efficient full adder cell with least MOS transistor count that reduces the serious problem of threshold loss. It considerably increases the speed. Result shows 45% improvement in threshold loss problem, 40% improvement in power-delay product over the other types of adders with comparable performance. The simulation has been carried out on Tanner EDA tool on BSIM3v3 90nm and 130nm technologies.","PeriodicalId":262830,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Students Technology Symposium (TechSym)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134448524","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the histological sections of oral mucosa, SECT layer mainly consists of three types of cells - inflammatory, fibroblast and endothelial cells; out of which only first two play significant role pertaining to precancerous changes in oral mucosa. In order to discriminate inflammatory and fibroblast cells, a set of mathematical features viz., area, perimeter, eccentricity, compactness, Zernike moments and Fourier descriptors are extracted followed by cell segmentation using color deconvolution method. The features are statiatically analysed to show its significance in cell discrimination. Thereafter, Bayesian classifier is implemented based on the defined feature space for characterizing inflammatory and fibroblast cells in order to observe the cell distribution in healthy state. The performance of this proposed system is evaluated with 97.19% overall classification accuracy.","PeriodicalId":262830,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Students Technology Symposium (TechSym)","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127167640","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The learning goals and instruction methods need to be articulated in order to accomplish the training targets in the corporate training environment, given that stringent timelines. In this work, we compare three teaching methodologies with the selection based pedagogy proposed recently. The outcomes of the effectiveness are measured in terms of learning indicator and the course feedback from the participants. It is noticed that the selection based approach promotes several dimensions of learning such as learning by doing, learning by mistakes, peer reviews, reflections. The approach helps the facilitator create active environment to make learning as a fun activity. In this paper, shot change (hard cut) detection that is based on “inter-frame difference”, “normalized difference energy” and the “normalized sum of absolute differences” and its comparison with a threshold are discussed. The effects of changing video threshold on hard cut detection have been summarized. A threshold value is evaluated for the efficient extraction of complete advertisement. Effects of various thresholds are extensively tested on more than 20 hrs of TV video streams. The frequency of shot breaks along with blank frames is considered as a key component in advertisement detection. Results of these MATLAB and LabVIEW based computer simulations have been reported.","PeriodicalId":262830,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Students Technology Symposium (TechSym)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126846396","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The adsorption based biosensor experiences surface stress caused by surface reconstruction, substrate mediated interaction, charge density redistribution and inter-molecular repulsive forces. The surface stress developed, is calculated by applying the Stoney Equation. The COMSOL Multiphysics software was used in analyzing and studying the dynamics of the micro-cantilever beam. The deflection of the beam should not exceed half the thickness value, to maintain accuracy of Stoney Equation and avoid non-linearity. It was observed that surface stress was influenced by coverage of the adsorbate relative to substrate, molecular mass of adsorbate and the pair interaction energy. The paper also demonstrates the use of Langmuir adsorption isotherm to study the adsorption kinetics and immobilization affects on surface stress. We have found that the surface free energy technique of measuring surface stress is best suited due its non dependence on material properties","PeriodicalId":262830,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Students Technology Symposium (TechSym)","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123862797","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The floating admittance matrix (FAM) approach is a neat method of mathematical modeling of electronic devices and its uses in circuits. The zero sum property of the floating admittance matrix provides a check to proceed further or reobserve the first equation itself. All transfer functions are represented as cofactors of the floating admittance matrix of the circuit to yield the exact results without any approximation. We have plotted graphs for the various transfer functions (Voltage Gain, Current Gain, Power Gain, Input Resistance and Output Resistance) of the CE amplifier using MATLAB and on comparing our results with the approximate results available in the references, we got a very interesting method of increasing the stability of the system. The method employed is simple and easy to assimilate.","PeriodicalId":262830,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Students Technology Symposium (TechSym)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134506522","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
