Therefore, we have raised the following questions: what has the conception of literacy – just as a mere ability to encode / decode a text – developed into today? What aspects are considered to be most pertinent to literacy as a complex phenomenon in contemporary research? What is the rationale behind combining two concepts – information literacy and media literacy – into the complex notion of media and information literacy (MIL)? The method applied in this research is state-of-the-art review which addresses current matters in comparison with previous research. In this paper, we have drawn much on institutional definitions of media literacy and information literacy (those adopted by UNESCO and the European Commission). The conceptual frameworks of these entities have been considered along with academic research in the field of literacy. Skilfully filtering information and critically appraising its quality – in any kind of messages and in any type of media – is vital. Synthesizing overlapping types has proved to be useful because overarching composite concepts like media and information literacy well reflect the complex nature of mediated world and encompass the needed skills, knowledge and attitude towards various sources of information and information quality.","PeriodicalId":256611,"journal":{"name":"Societal Studies","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125446445","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it is obvious that the actual crime rate can never be accurately measured. Inexact measuring methods need to be used or crime could be left unmeasured. This article examines the possibilities of complex use of recorded crime and victimisation survey data in order to better assess crime rate differences over time and space within the same country. The article explores the main aspects and problems of comparison of recorded crime and crime victim survey data, provides new models of recorded crime and crime victim survey data integration, compares these models with each other, presents findings on the most suitable model for assessing crime rate and applies this model in practice. A new indicator of crime rate (RAS) is developed based on integration of recorded crime and victim survey data, suitable for assessing crime rate differences over time and space within the same country.","PeriodicalId":256611,"journal":{"name":"Societal Studies","volume":"152 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122042742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aspects highlighted in the paper uncover, for instance, acceptance models and best practices, as well as the financial impact of mobile technologies in the domain of interest. Moreover, the paper pinpoints some important characteristics that impede full integration of these technologies into this area. In addition, the economic benefits and the current situation with regard to mobile integration are highlighted. In addition, relevant literature and theories are analysed and discussed. Furthermore, the industrial integration of mobile technologies is outlined. The results indicate that there is a tendency to place an emphasis on the technical aspects of mobile devices rather than on understanding the organisational context, which affects the integration of mobile technologies into this domain. The work provides a thorough understanding of best practices and aspects to consider for the successful integration of mobile technologies in this area. This is because the use of mobile devices enables maintenance staff to gain access to information and services pertaining to the task in hand in real time, as long as some form of network access is provided. Users of these devices thus become mobile actors who dynamically interact with the physical environment in the workplace and support information systems, leading to a faster response to events and improved organizational performance.","PeriodicalId":256611,"journal":{"name":"Societal Studies","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121792657","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Disciplines cannot be justifi ed adequately by assumptions that give rise to them. A scientist’s duty to question founding assumptions is satisfi ed only by stepping outside one’s own tradition to acquire a critical perspective. Th us, integrity in scientific inquiry rests on openness to criticism from perspectives outside one’s own traditions, a consciousness of tolerance. Phenomenology claims for itself a capacity for such critical self-refl ection and openness to multidisciplinary debate1. In summary, methodological validity for the study of screen sense begins with a phenomenologist’s openness to criticism and moves through critique of other perspectives toward an authentic, unified investigation.","PeriodicalId":256611,"journal":{"name":"Societal Studies","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115803615","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Th e study revealed that an adoption of such a specialisation in Ukraine will contribute to the Ukrainian court system and the state in general as the solution to the jurisdiction problem by boosting the eff ectiveness of decision, creates an opportunity to set special court procedures and practice generalizations to enhance efficiency and accuracy, serving as a basis for the consistency and predictability of case outcomes and the source of progressive development and dynamism. The advantages and disadvantages of specialised intellectual property courts adoption depend on the model selected. Th e theoretical frame of reference is provided by a modified model of Bronfenbrenners developmental ecology. Data collection has primarily been in the form of interviews with university staff from Lithuanian institutions for higher education. In addition to the interviews, literature lists, course schedules and other key documents have been collected and analysed. Th e analysis focuses on individual’s conceptualisation of three main areas. Th e study demonstrates how the creation of management and economics as a university discipline in Lithuania has been formed by a combination of political/ideological, economic, institutional and individual factors. One of the study’s main contributions is to highlight the signifi cance of the concept of academic freedom and to focus on the paradox, where constraint under the old system is replaced by another form of constraint. In this case, where the rigidity of the old Soviet doctrine is replaced by a new freedom; but instead of being given greater opportunities to influence and change the subject, the academic staff are forced into a position where, once again they are subjugated to the influences of international sources.","PeriodicalId":256611,"journal":{"name":"Societal Studies","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132179199","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
