Summarizing, it can be stated that social-democrats of that period aimed to consolidate radical parliamentary democratic form of governance, which had to consolidate not only radical political democracy, but social and economic democracy, as well. Social-democrats of that period were implacably hostile to the institution of the president, which they considered not democratic. It should be stated that constitutional provisions of social-democrats were caused by the spirit of the times originated from the collapse of undemocratic monarchies during the revolutions in 1917 and 1918, popularity of democracy in its radically parliamentary, ‘french’ version, adherence to one of the most radical socialistic interpretations of marxistic doctrine and ideological tradition of socialism in general. Also, they were exposed by circumstances and characteristics of LSDP activities at that time. All of that resulted into hypertrophied and not adequate assessment of presidential institutions according to the permanent Lithuanian Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania (1922) and assessment of this Constitution in general.","PeriodicalId":256611,"journal":{"name":"Societal Studies","volume":"581 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114781323","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This book contains a strong Bakhtinian methodological introduction (it addresses Bakhtin’s concept of the novel) and extensive quotes from Bakhtin’s book “Epic and Novel”, in which the novel concept is introduced. Bakhtin’s text was very little known and hard to find back in the 1960s. As it is obvious from the analysis, Bakhtin’s theory plays an ambiguous role in Bucys’ history of the national novel. On the one hand, Bakhtin’s theory provides theoretical grounds for the novelization of genres and is a suitable methodology for research into Lithuanian novel. On the other hand, Bucys uses a dogmatic type of analogy, and the analysis itself is based on comparing rather than on interpretation.","PeriodicalId":256611,"journal":{"name":"Societal Studies","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134038757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The author analyses how they function in exiled novels by German exiled writers such as Erich Maria Remarque, Lion Feuchtwanger, Thomas Mann, Anna Seghers and Klaus Mann. These works are considered to have a particular organization of space and plot as well as subjective organization, and to belong to a specific literary genre. Religious images and plots are analysed in relation to the novels’ organization of space and time. David and Goliath, and Noah’s Ark are images taken from the Bible that can be found in the novels studied, and plots such as the history of Joseph and Exodus are harnessed by the authors. The story of the Israelite’s exile to Egypt serves Thomas Mann as a thematic source, while he expresses emigrant consciousness in “Joseph and His Brothers”. Other novels are devoted to the events of 1933 to 1945, and their authors add biblical plots and images to them to highlight axiological markers of the exile space and help the writers express their emigrant world view. It is also shown in this study that these images are used alongside and for similar purposes to mythological images.","PeriodicalId":256611,"journal":{"name":"Societal Studies","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124986977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It provides the analysis of ethics institutionalization problems in the field and relates the ways of their resolution through academic integrity management. The aim of the paper is to reveal that integrity in organization activity has definite meanings and to prove that integrity is valid when transferring from abstract talking to real building of academic integrity is taking place. The author also explains that the realization of academic integrity is stipulated by proper organizational processes, ethics infrastructure and presupposed by effective value management systems, which enforce operationalization of outstanding aims of higher education. The author traces existing in Lithuanian higher school structures social cultural attitudes that determine mental and institutional barriers for integrity concept establishing. She argues that instrumental application of academic integrity diminishes the gap between declared values and facts, as well as between established ethics norms and their realization in institutional practice. Thus, integrity management helps to eliminate academic misconduct and still existent multiple facts of academic dishonesty. If such situation remains, the value of higher education decreases. That is why the formation of academic integrity assures the way to improve the situation. The paper generally raises the seminal problem of academic ethics institutionalization in Lithuanian higher schools and offers building the system, in which the society could trust in and rely on higher school diploma, university credentials and competencies of university graduates as prospective professionals. The paper offers to build academic integrity in Lithuanian higher school institutions by transferring the focus from individual integrity to the organizational one, while purposively forming corporative integrity through implementation of definite organisational processes and procedures. Only complex formation of integrity culture can surmount academic dishonesty, so it requires systems approach to the struggle against academic fouls, reconstruction of appropriate organization processes, creation of required integrity promotion procedures as well as its consistent implementation by using all managerial tools. The attempts to implement ethics codes “from above”, in many cases without substantiation of new ethics regulation necessity by discourse, and to avoid a reflection of academic integrity problems were unlucky. The failures are also stipulated by maintaining ethics norms purely through prescriptive imperatives, along with widespread ignorance of value management on the institutional level and without due awareness of definite ethics tools. Namely, these tools enable changes of attitudes and behaviours, promote academic integrity and empower changes on institutional level, help to cultivate integrity culture","PeriodicalId":256611,"journal":{"name":"Societal Studies","volume":"83 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125078547","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

His works evoke increasing interest not only in Poland, but also abroad. Łukaszewski’s world-view, although shaped by various life experiences, clearly stems from Christian roots, whereas religion and Catholic faith remain a beacon for the composer in all his artistic operations. The author often emphasises that he dwells on questions connected with the depth of musical message and mapping out a way for the quest which lead to “sacrum”. The composer’s interpretationof the sacrum category results from two principal sources: the teachings of the Church and inspirations with the ideas of a Polish musicologist, Bohdan Pociej. It is the researcher’s opinion that while the category of sacredness in music is grounded in the works’ substance, the music matter itself may be the “carrier” of sacrum. Łukaszewski assumed a position similar to the musicologist regarding the musical means instrumental to “cracking the door” to a different reality. He himself admits: I try to find such sounds, rhythmical values and harmonies which, when combined in the right proportions, just as in an alchemist’s laboratory, will result in an effect difficult to define with words. The author of the article intends to point out those strategies of the composer (often connected with the musical representation phenomenon) which serve to visualisethe sacral sphere acoustically and as a result, evoke religious experiences and an exposure to mystery. However, it should be emphasised that the composer’s technique, although significant, is not the author’s final objective; it merely plays a service role towards the superior super-aesthetic values (the term of a Polish philosopher, Wladyslaw Strozewski). Łukaszewski stressed many times that perhaps, sacrum begins where a workshop ends.","PeriodicalId":256611,"journal":{"name":"Societal Studies","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121288782","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Logicality is a traditional, associated with thinking and speech, value, which has a great importance in the area of scientific discovery. In the era of trans-disciplinary research, cognitive sciences unite the efforts of philosophers, psychologists, neurologists, linguists, anthropologists, biochemists and the artificial intelligence specialists to understand the thinking and cognition, thus increasing the importance of logicality. Perhaps therefore it has been presumed that the speech we use for communication is functioning according to the rules of logic, using the rules of grammar as a base. The speech is a highly important part of thinking, although the actual role it plays in the process of thinking is highly debatable. Since we cannot observe directly the moments when thoughts turn into words, we do not know why the structures of speech that consist of the same words can be slightly different or why the same words have both, direct as well as indirect, meanings. The changes in thinking can be observed only via the changes in speech. However, here the factors that influence these changes must be taken into account. One of such factors discussed in this paper is the long term effect of information technologies on human thinking.","PeriodicalId":256611,"journal":{"name":"Societal Studies","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122632846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article investigates these similarities from different perspectives and looks at previous research on the topic. First, there is strong evidence on the evolutionary pathways of the two domains to support the claim that both language and music evolved from the same precursor. Language and music also share a number of features at the level of sound and hierarchical structure. Furthermore, they are interrelated in terms of cognition and neurology. Finally, the integration of these two areas has been successfully put forward in education. A number of scholars have reported positive results in their studies and research on the impact of music on the formation of cognitive and language skills in particular, with an emphasis on music as a mnemonic tool. Several didactic trends and theories on distinct learning styles, intelligence and aptitudes also favour a musical approach and discuss the musical learner among other types. Highly applicable benefits of music integration have been noted and extensively reported on in the development of English as a foreign language (EFL), with a focus on pronunciation. This paper also aims to test the influence of music on language acquisition and reports a positive transfer of musical instruction to particular phonetic aspects of English speech among a cohort of international EFL students. The subjects in this group improved their ability to distinguish between and produce rapidly changing target sounds, stresses and vowel reduction when they were treated with music.","PeriodicalId":256611,"journal":{"name":"Societal Studies","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123721669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
