The investigation touches upon the basic grammatical peculiarities of Sherlock’s speech and uncovers the changes that the literary character’s image has undergone on the level of its speech. Thus, the paper results in the conclusion about the peaking frequency of simple sentences in the TV show Sherlock’s speech on the level of sentence structure, accounted for by the necessity to simplify his speech for the viewers to grasp it easier. For the same reason, the new medium calls for shorter lineal length of Sherlock’s utterances. Though declaratives still make up the predominant communicative sentence type in Sherlock’s speech, he is twice as frequent with his interrogatives as Doyle’s old Mister Sherlock Holmes, and uses rhetorical questions even more often than special ones. Sherlock from BBC is more emotional, using exclamatory sentences and imperatives, which are often packed with verbs of motion, like go and get, or ask his interlocutors to “shut up”. Despite using the term “sociopath” about himself, Sherlock initiates communication more often in the TV show than in the book, using direct addresses. The changes in Sherlock Holmes’ speech portraits the authors attribute both to the type of medium the literary character functions in and to the diachronical changes bringing about more informal conversations and new dialogue traditions.","PeriodicalId":237537,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu «Ostrozʹka akademìâ». Radical points of interest to topography of space and local specifics of territories are: total elimination of space markers for creating mythical universal (here and everywhere) and detailed presentation of landscape or interier in some autobiographycal poems. As result of research three types of space modeling are describes. The first model is one-dimensional cosmos of absurd soviet every-day life described in narrative poetry. The second ones proposes two-dimensional world in texts of accumulative composition: physical space of human existence (as variant of it: human body/soul) and inner space of meditation, or memoirs of bygone days, or visions and dreams. Sometimes accumulative fragments are constructed to be a separate locus full of things and inhabitants (subterranian reservuar). Their forms are allegorical emblems or narrative episodes on private, political or hystorical motifs. The third model is metaphysical poetic proposition of configuration of three locis planis (three worlds) and man’s ability to move from one to another. Symbol of jolly cemetery and status of dead person is correspondent with one-dimentional world of soviet peoples’ life; and overcoming repressions and control by power authority, preserving of self and human reactions are related with two other space models.","PeriodicalId":237537,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu «Ostrozʹka akademìâ». It outlines the meaning of key concepts, abstracts, and conference abstracts, known as secondary genres of scientific discourse. The article describes textual characteristics and application of rhetorical strategies in writing effective conference abstracts. The methods of content analysis and systematization have been used to determine linguistic features of the analyzed conference abstracts. Moreover, it claims on the importance of considering the established conventions of their meaningful writing not only for post-graduate students but for young scholars as well, since it is a common problem for all groups. Failing to meet the requirements, conference abstracts are to be denied by the committee board hosting the future scientific conference. Addressing this problem, experts of blind viewing suggest that it may be attributed to poor command of English, lack of knowledge of academic writing skills and of lexical and stylistic features. The results suggest that familiarizing students with the recent scientific data and methodology is crucial but not sufficient to develop their academic writing skills. Implementing the method of content analysis, the study places emphasis on examining various authentic scientific texts. Thus, the conclusion has been made about the significance of following the accepted format of writing conference abstracts and maintaining appropriate rhetoric strategies in the development of academic writing skills. Among the analyzed materials of the English-language conference abstracts, the most typical linguistic characteristics of this type of genre of academic writing were established: the use of Active Voice constructions, mainly verbs of the present indefinite tense, impersonal constructions, personal, possessive, and indicative pronouns in plural form which act as the subject, abbreviations and negative sentences are rarely used.","PeriodicalId":237537,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu «Ostrozʹka akademìâ». The author carries out a comparative analysis of two AS programs, MSWord2003 and Pertinence Summarizer, for literary, journalistic and scientific texts. The chosen methodology of comparative analysis allows not only to single out the peculiarities and limitations of each program, but also to make some general conclusions about the problems existing in the process of automatic summarization. The analysis of source texts and results of AS presented in the paper is focused on the correlation between the text genre and the process/result of AS. The analysis does not take into account such factors influencing the quality of summary as the length of the original text, the original language, the subject, etc. The primary hypothesis of the study was the assertion that the quality of automatic summarization of a text directly depends on the genre of this text. The obtained results made it possible to confirm this hypothesis and highlight the interdependence between the level of formalism in the text, which can be explained by its genre, and the pertinence of the summary. The conducted research showed that both AS programs are based, first of all, on morphological and, to a lesser extent, on morpho-syntaxic analysis of the source text. Furthermore, the issue of processing the implicit information available in the text, at the semantic and pragmatic level in particular, still seems unresolved. One of the possible ways to overcome this problem is the dynamic summarization of the text, which necessitates broader participation and involvement of the program user in the process of automatic summarization.","PeriodicalId":237537,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu «Ostrozʹka akademìâ». The synthetic nature of the genre of artistic reporting in this case contributes to the formation of a holistic, unfolding in time picture of the struggle of an individual and a group against the totalitarian state. The characters of S. Oslavska's artistic reports as representatives of certain social groups, their relationship with the Other (totalitarian state and journalist), space, within which the individual acts, are the key subjects of the image. S. Oslavska's artistic reports represent a significant number of characters marked as hostile to the totalitarian system within which they operate. The system aims to destroy them both spiritually and physically. How to secure themselves? The journalist sees this: rooting through a memory and a history into the past; adherence to traditions and values that cement the community (ethnic, gender, religious etc.); creation of a new private-and-public space as an individual's reaction to the violation of his fundamental human rights; an attempt to share a traumatic experience with Another, including a journalist, which not only has a therapeutic effect, but also establishes new social connections necessary for existence through the media.","PeriodicalId":237537,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu «Ostrozʹka akademìâ». Differences during the translation of texts of this type are summarized. Various styles of language functioning are presented and structural features of the scientific and technical style are revealed. The authors' attention is focused on the importance of using the scientific and technical style. Scientific and technical style refers to the book type of language, which serves both written and oral speech. The bases of the language functioning of scientific and technical texts are standardization, syntactic completeness of the statement, the presence of analytical constructions, the frequent use of clichéd structures, (mainly the nominal nature of the morphological components of the sentence), an extensive system of connecting elements, etc. Not only does translation of technical documents require essential knowledge on translation but it also takes into account the national nature of the instruction texts in the original language. The translator is bound to develop a certain style, while adapting the instruction to the standards of the recipient and trying to remain unique in the industrial market. This aspect is especially relevant when translating the instructions from English to Ukrainian. An important focus is made on certain quality rules of scientific and technical texts translation. There are three types of stylistic errors that deprive the text clarity: incorrect logical emphasis in a sentence, amorphousness of sentences, formation of poor connections between words. By overcoming these shortcomings, the translator is likely to achieve clarity in translation.","PeriodicalId":237537,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu «Ostrozʹka akademìâ». The authors provide an overview of the theory including the role of hypothesis and interaction in language learning. The article goes on to offer practical advice on how to implement the theory in classroom language teaching, including the use of authentic materials and interactive exercises. The authors emphasize the importance of creating a student-centered classroom atmosphere that encourages communication and interaction in the target language. This includes providing students with opportunities to work with authentic materials and practice speaking through meaningful tasks. The authors also emphasize the importance of support, which involves providing students with guidance as they work on understanding and producing language. This may include providing definitions, examples and explanations of new vocabulary and grammatical structures, as well as feedback. The article discusses the role of the teacher in facilitating language acquisition through the use of materials adapted to the level of proficiency. This involves the use of a range of teaching strategies, including task-based learning, form-based learning, and error correction. The authors conclude by emphasizing the importance of continuously analyzing and evaluating students' progress to ensure that they are receiving the appropriate level of assistance and support.","PeriodicalId":237537,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu «Ostrozʹka akademìâ». The study presents the authors’ vision of the structure of lifelong learning competences for transport specialists, identifies the pedagogical conditions for forming lifelong learning competences, and designs a model for forming such competences. It is proven that the effectiveness of forming lifelong learning competences in future transport specialists significantly increases when active learning methods and innovative information and computer technologies are applied in the process of professional training. The most significant pedagogical conditions for effective formation of lifelong learning competences are identified as: pedagogically-driven motivation of future transport specialists to form and develop lifelong learning competences, implementation of methods that contribute to the formation and development of such competences in professional training, and formation of professional qualities in future transport specialists based on conscious perception of universal and professional values. The authors argue that there is a necessary effective link between employers and higher education institutions for collecting and analysing structural and functional changes and shifts in professional activities. The creation and maintenance of such a link will allow higher education institutions to more effectively respond to changes in labour market demands and ensure a high level of professional training for their graduates.","PeriodicalId":237537,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu «Ostrozʹka akademìâ». The main literary techniques and tools used by naturalists in their works and their influence on the clear presentation and accuracy of information transmission about contemporary events are considered. The duration of the existence of the naturalism style in Ukrainian and European literature is determined. In the story \"Two Bricks\" is analyzed the writer’s image of the picture of a terrible and impressive incident from the life of ordinary Ukrainian peasants – the murder of a man's brother-in-law for two bricks that he stole from him. It was determined the writer's use of naturalistic means of image, which gave the author the opportunity to reproduce the depicted picture in accordance with real life. They are: 1) depicting the life of the characters under the influence of the physiological state of a person, as well as under the influence of environment; 2) documentary reproduction of the event, transmission of information as in a document (protocol); 3) the objectivity, or depicting reality while avoiding the author's presence; 4) photographic accuracy of the depicted events, the writer's attention to the smallest details of what happened; 5) truthful reproduction of events according to life and the emergence of factography on this basis, but at the same time recording these events without their explanation and penetrating into the essence of the happened events (the writer does not explain the reasons for the murder of the hero’s brother-in-law, but only states this event). As a result of the analysis, it is proposed to consider the Ukrainian writer Kostyantyn Srokovsky as an artist who followed the requirements of the naturalism style initiated by E. Sosiura’s views in the onymic of poetic works. It is emphasized that it’s expedient to study the idiostyles of writers whose work is symbolic both for a certain people and for the aesthetic context in general. It is noted that the processes consisting in the semantic transformation of a word, the formation of its artistic meaning, and the transformation of a word into an aesthetic sign deserve special attention in the analysis of individual features of poetic texts. The question of studying the individual stylistic features of V. Sosiura’s poetry in the semantic-functional aspect, the need to rethink and analyze his creative output from a new point, taking into account the mechanisms of word transformation in poetic texts, becomes relevant. It is determined that V. Sosiura played a significant role in the depiction of the era through the onymicon, although today we state ambiguous views on his personality, and sometimes on his creative output. In the minds of the Ukrainian people, V. Sosiura is a vivid representative of the new generation of lyric poets, who were doomed to adapt to the conditions of the ideological leadership of literature, trying to preserve the best folk song traditions. The analysis of the texts of the poems showed that among the categories of the toponymicon of V. Sosiura’s poetic picture of the world, the most numerous are the groups of choronyms, hydronyms, and oikonyms, in particular, astonyms (names of cities), hodonyms (names of streets), and urbanonyms (names of inner-city objects), to a lesser extent oronyms and dryonyms are presented, and the most diverse are oikonyms and urbanonyms, which presents the open poetic space of the author’s picture of the world.","PeriodicalId":237537,"journal":{"name":"Naukovì zapiski Nacìonalʹnogo unìversitetu «Ostrozʹka akademìâ».
