This process is generally caused by both isolations from speakers of the first language and the acquisition and use of a second language. This study aims to investigate the parent-child communication strategies in preserving the Sundanese language in an environment in which Sundanese is not a major language spoken in the area. A qualitative case study was employed to analyze the topic. The data were collected by performing interviews and observations toward three Sundanese families who live in non-Sundanese language environment in Jakarta. The findings show that the parents performed two main strategies: direct language lessons and subconscious affirmations of the first language. The strategies were carried out in three phases: the initial planning, language preservation action, and feedback evaluation. It is expected that the study would contribute more insights into the preservation native languages and reduction the risk of language attrition. Despite the numerous studies on the advantages of journal writing, little is documented about how this activity is viewed from students’ perspective. This study, therefore, explored how students’ view a one-semester long journaling activity that they did as out-of-class assignments. The participants were EFL students of a university in Indonesia. The findings derived from students’ written reflection and interview indicated that students perceived journaling a useful activity to help them improve their writing skills, build their writing habit and boost their confidence to write. They also reported that journaling served as a means to foster self-expression and promote students-teacher interaction. The study suggests that there are more benefits beyond writing improvement that can be gained from journaling and recommends that EFL teachers incorporate it in any writing instruction. Therefore, when we translate other languages to Chinese, people’s names need to be translated, linguistically using transliteration. In the process of translating Indonesian to Chinese, the author often encounters the problem of Chinese Indonesian names’ translation (e.g. Tan Tek Ho), because there is no absolute standard in the field of name translation. Thus, the translated Chinese characters would be significantly different. For example, the transliterated name of Indonesian president Jokowi, it has at least two translations in Chinese with different characters. As the instrument, qualitative data analysis method is used in this research. The author aims to explore how to select Chinese characters and then to build a relatively reliable standard for Chinese Indonesian names transliteration through three aspects of analysis: the repetition rate of the same character in Chinese names, the characteristics of Chinese names and the characteristics of Chinese Indonesian names. The research finds out that selecting high-frequency characters, aesthetic meaning characters, gender-oriented characters and avoiding uncommon characters are the best way to transliterate Chinese Indonesian names from Latin to Chinese characters. Seven competent and experienced translators were purposively selected to participate in this descriptive qualitative research. Data were obtained from a survey questionnaire administered to identify and describe the translators’ orders grabbed from various translation clients and to elaborate on how they managed their deadlines. Interviews were also done to confirm the information provided by the translators and to search for some additional information not explicitly explored in the survey questionnaire. The results indicated that the translation orders were grabbed from book publishers, translation agencies, offices, multinational companies, translators’ colleagues, and individuals. The translators showed some initiatives to collaborate with other competent and experienced translators to manage their translation deadlines. In addition, in some cases, the translators need to hire consultants and experts in the relevant topics to share their expertise to the translators to improve the quality of their translation. Then, the translators considered the importance of employing editors to review the overall translation, and proofreaders were also required by the translators to proofread the final draft of the manuscripts before they were sent back to their clients.","PeriodicalId":236303,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Second Conference on Language, Literature, Education, and Culture (ICOLLITE 2018)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130123618","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method used was the R & D model of Lee and Owens (2004) in the form of a cycle consisting of five stages: 1) analysis, 2) design, 3) development, 4) implementation, 5) evaluation. Developed media, called henkado, was tested, and based on the results, students give responses that this application is easy to use; the exercise using the henkado application is more fun than the exercises on paper (conventional exercise); students start the next menu even though the material has not been explained and they repeated exercise if the score was not satisfactory. In other words, the use of this media can arouse student motivation and increase the frequency of exercise, which in turn can enhance the ability of ~te verb conjugation. Drupadi is the retelling or the renewal of the epic Mahabharata which focuses on Drupadi as the female character in the story. As the representation of women, Drupadi in the novel Drupadi is presented with a new construction differ from the previous construction in Mahabharata both the Indian and the Javanese version (Serat Baratajuda). The method used in this study is the literary review with feminist perspective reading, and the application of feminist literary criticism reading as a woman. In its process, structural analysis is also applied to reveal gender issues within the narrative structure of the novel and the proof of Drupadi as the leading character of the story. The result of the study shows that the novel Drupadi is reconstructing Drupadi from Serat Baratajuda and retracing it back to the Indian version of Mahabharata. This reconstruction also shows a repudiation of women's weakness in the story of Mahabharata both Indian and Javanese versions by presenting the subjectivity of women through Drupadi's character, as well as denunciations over father/male lineage and myths of virginity.
