{"title":"英文程度不同的學生對TILT教學法的反應","authors":"張鳳蘭 張鳳蘭","doi":"10.53106/199891482021011901002","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.53106/199891482021011901002","url":null,"abstract":"\u0000 本文旨在探討英文程度不同的學生對TILT (Translation and Interpreting in Language Teaching) 教學法的反應,研究材料採用了日本關西大學外國語學部的線上口譯訓練課程,以台灣中部某大學應用英語碩士班15名學生為對象進行實驗,實驗方法是受試者在跟述線上教材一次之後,立即錄下記得的內容作為基準 (baseline),接下來依序透過跟述 (shadowing) 朗讀 (reading aloud) 和聽寫重構 (dictogloss) 三個方法共進行20分鐘左右的練習,最後受試者再根據老師提供的關鍵字錄下dictogloss的產出,本研究共選出英文程度進階、中階、與初階各三人進行音檔的細部分析。\u0000 與基準做對照,英語程度進階與中階的受試者的產出在內容完整性和句型結構兩個層面都有非常明顯的效果,唯一有困難的族群是英語程度初階而且文法底子偏弱的受試者。在問卷和訪談中,這個族群的受試者也表示肯定這一套TILT訓練法的實用性,秉持i+1的選材原則,如果長期訓練,英語程度的提升是可以期待的。\u0000 This study aims to examine how learners of different English proficiency levels respond to TILT (Translation and Interpreting in Language Teaching). Fifteen students from the Graduate Program of Applied English at a university in central-Taiwan participated in the experiment which employed the online interpreting e-learning courseware of Kansai University, Japan. \u0000 After the participants shadowed the online audio file once, they immediately recorded the content they recalled as a baseline. Next, they practiced in sequence the online text through shadowing, reading aloud and dictogloss for approximately a total of 20 minutes. Finally, participants recorded their reproduction of the online text based on the keywords provided by the experimenter. The recordings of nine participants were selected for an in-depth analysis. Three of them had basic English proficiency, three intermediate, and three advanced. \u0000 Compared with the baselines, the output of participants with advanced and intermediate English proficiency demonstrated positive training effects in terms of content covered and sentence structure. The only group with difficulties is those with basic English proficiency and rudimentary grammar. However, these participants still expressed affirmation of the practicality of TILT in the questionnaire and interview. {"title":"微觀層面非二元的歸化異化:兩者之間、之內與涉及的可能性","authors":"歐冠宇 歐冠宇","doi":"10.53106/199891482021011901005","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.53106/199891482021011901005","url":null,"abstract":"\u0000 歸化異化是近二、三十年來翻譯領域裡十分熱門卻也老生常談的議題。本文簡要地回顧了歸化異化的兩條脈絡:韋努蒂論述和華語圈論述,並點出兩條脈絡於2000年起在中文世界裡「混搭拼接」的特殊現象,同時也梳理歸化異化和意譯直譯的區別與關係,更重要的是分析歸化異化在宏觀與微觀層面的發展。鑒於宏觀視角下歸化異化的二元對立論已趨飽和,本文提倡以微觀視角將歸化異化限定在具「文化特殊性」的語言和文化成分加以討論,探究歸化異化之間、之內與涉及的變化及其他可能的翻譯手法。\u0000 本文提出歸化和異化之間存在著「歛化」、「淡化」、「轉化」、「等化」、「融化」五種處理方法;異化的內部可分為「讀音異化」、「詞彙異化」、「屬性異化」、「格律異化」四種類型,歸化的內部可分為「詞彙歸化」、「俗諺歸化」、「習慣歸化」、「格律歸化」四種類型;而歸化異化還涉及「隱化」和「顯化」兩個現象或手法。本文透過較深入地分類、定義及舉例並定出英文名稱,盼能加深拓廣歸化異化的非二元論述,增加實務面及教學面的貢獻與價值。\u0000 Domestication versus foreignization has been one of the highly popular but slightly clichéd issues in translation studies over the past few decades. This study first provides a brief review of the paired concepts’ two academic traces – one brought forth by Lawrence Venuti and one developing in the Chinese academia – and points out the intriguing “mixture” or “blend” of the two traces in the Chinese academic circle since 2000. Then the paper discusses the common confusion and distinction between domestication/ foreignization and free translation/ literal translation, and more importantly, analyzes the development of domestication and foreignization on the macro and micro levels. As the issue has been somewhat fully and excessively explored from a macroscopic, binary perspective, this study proposes a more microscopic approach that limits the discussion of domestication and foreignization to the linguistic and cultural elements with “cultural specificity” in any given text so as to probe into varieties and possibilities in translation techniques and renderings between, within and related to the two. \u0000 This present study argues that between domestication and foreignization exist other options, including concession, neutralization, transformation, equalization, and integration. Internally, foreignization can be subcategorized into phonetic, lexical, attributive and stylistic ones, while domestication can come in lexical, idiomatic, customary and stylistic ones. Domestication and foreignization also involve two phenomena or techniques: cancellation and manifestation. Hence, it shares a recent critical interest in re-examining the lives and experiences of the culturally marginal and the historically forgotten. \u0000 By exploring this rarely discussed figure, my paper will attempt fill to a void within the field of Shakespearean Studies. Any reader who wants to understand The Winter’s Tale better, I would argue, will benefit from exploring a character whose behavior shapes, in crucial ways, Shakespeare’s retelling of the play’s source material. It is particularly important to explore in detail the way in which Shakespeare entrusted this character with the role of resolving the multi-dimensional patriarchal crisis that sits at the heart of this Jacobean text. Shakespeare juxtaposes the ‘simplicity’ of this character to the courtly value of “gentility,” a choice that, I argue, ultimately offers the early-modern audience of the Globe a figure to look up to. \u0000 Analysis will first consider Louis Adrian Montrose’s critique of the patriarchal politics of gentility and then move on to expand it, by exercising a sociological reading of what Pierre Bourdieu would call the “disposition” of this octogenarian petit master. The purpose is to reveal how the Shepherd emerges as a figure that speaks to the anxieties and the aspirations of an audience whose past, current and future fortunes and misfortunes were highly dependent on the whims of their own fathers, patrons, tutors and masters. {"title":"專欄文章的寫作剖析與翻譯策略:太極陰陽圖與最佳化分類","authors":"賴秉彥 賴秉彥","doi":"10.53106/199891482021011901004","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.53106/199891482021011901004","url":null,"abstract":"\u0000 本文從媒體專欄文章的主要類別及其辯證的本質為發端,接續討論能強化理解的柔性寫作技巧,以及著重邏輯與因果關係的硬性技巧。我們可以透過陰陽太極圖與樹狀圖的角度來歸納硬性推理技巧,從而理解到二分法的不可能以及分類的歸納所可能面臨的限制。畢竟,太多層級的分類是沒效率的。針對這個問題,本文提出一個最佳化分類的概念,主張透過此一概念來檢視專欄文章的邏輯脈絡以及構思適當的翻譯策略。以專欄文章而言,兩階段的樹狀圖分類大致是適合的,雖因特殊情境而或有例外。在本質上,寫作的架構是不穩定的,但我們依舊可以依循結構主義的角度來看待文章的推理脈絡,因為在最佳化分類之前以及最佳化分類底下的架構仍屬穩定。最後,本文提供一則心理分析的比喻以協助譯者構思翻譯策略。\u0000 This paper starts with the various categories of editorials from news outlet and highlights their inherent dialectic nature. It goes on to discuss soft skills that enhance reading comprehension and hard-core analytics that stress on logic and causation. The hard-core writing analytics can be analyzed through the lens of ying-yang symbol, or a corresponding tree diagram, which implies the impossibility of dichotomy and the inherent limitation of categorization, as too many layers of sub-categorization could be ineffective. This paper upholds the concept of optimal categorization, which would normally call for two layers, that helps to see through the writing analytics and conceive proper translation strategies. Although the structure of writing analytics could be inherently unstable, translator could still rely on a structuralist approach as the overall structure would remain largely robust and stable, prior and up to the stage of optimal categorization. {"title":"學生口譯員針對非母語英語講者口音採用逐步口譯策略之調查","authors":"徐佳萱 徐佳萱, 溫婷惠 溫婷惠","doi":"10.53106/199891482021011901003","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.53106/199891482021011901003","url":null,"abstract":"\u0000 本研究旨在探討逐步口譯策略如何幫助學生口譯員處理口音。本研究對象為十名學生口譯員(母語為中文,外語為英文),針對兩位非母語英語講者(韓國以及沙烏地阿拉伯)所發表之演說進行逐步口譯。研究過程可分為兩部分:逐步口譯兩篇非母語英語演講及填寫一份問卷。在分析十位受試者的譯文後,找出能有效處理口音之策略;受試者填寫問卷,提出他們遭遇的困難以及採取的策略。研究結果顯示,總結、增譯以及推論為前三名受試者認為最能有效處理口音之策論;而總結、簡化、換句話說、替換、使用接近詞以及延遲翻譯共六個策略能有效處理口音。此外,在口譯前準備與否並不會在策略使用上有所不同。\u0000 The goal of this study is to explore how strategies in consecutive interpreting can help interpreter trainees deal with different non-native accented English. Ten interpreter trainees whose native language is Chinese and foreign language is English are invited to interpret two different English speeches delivered by a Korean speaker and a Saudi Arabian speaker. The study is consisted of two sections: consecutive interpreting of two accented speeches and a questionnaire. The participants’ renditions are analyzed to find out useful strategies to cope with accents, and a questionnaire is filled out by the participants regarding the difficulties they encounter and the strategies they adopt. The results show that summarization, addition, and inferencing are the top three most effective strategies to deal with accents in the participants’ viewpoints while summarization, simplification, paraphrasing, substitution, approximation as well as delaying response are the tactics that can be used to deal with accents effectively. {"title":"新冠病毒大流行期間的遠距模擬會議和遠距口譯教學:師生觀點","authors":"汝明麗 汝明麗","doi":"10.53106/199891482020011801001","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.53106/199891482020011801001","url":null,"abstract":"\u0000 2020年初新冠肺炎疫情爆發,在短短數月間演變為全球大流行。四月時,筆者任教大學亦因兩名學生先後確診,於是展開了為期三週的遠距教學。另外因學期初排定的口譯模擬會議也恰巧落在同一期間,故讓本所師生有機會能夠同時體驗遠距口譯教學及遠距模擬會議,對許多師生均為全新體驗,效果如何值得深究。\u0000 筆者任教系所從四月初起改為遠距授課三週,其中包括遠距模擬會議。而口譯師生是否會因此對遠距口譯授課及工作產生不同想法,無論是感受到從想像到親身實踐的差異、未來實務工作趨勢,或是這對於後疫情時代的口譯教學會造成何種影響,皆為本研究欲探討的議題。\u0000本研究藉由先量性後質性的混合式研究方法,在三週遠距教學及模擬會議結束後隔週,透過線上問卷蒐集教師與學生的意見,其後從問卷結果整理出與研究問題相關的議題,並邀請部分填答學生進行深度訪談。\u0000希望藉由分析問卷及訪談結果,了解口譯實務導向課程一旦改為遠距,將遭遇哪些困難,又解決了哪些問題。此外,從遠距模擬會議的參與經驗或可一窺未來口譯市場的新趨勢,如將來如何教育客戶,使他們了解遠距/實體會議中口譯員的需求。透過結合兩方面的親身體驗,亦可重新思考口譯的本質。\u0000長期以來,教學與會議口譯皆極為重視面對面的互動,但在數位化及新冠疫情的推波助瀾下,遠距口譯教學與遠距口譯似乎已勢不可擋。後疫情時代的發展無人能夠預知,本研究希望能超越遠距授課或口譯的經驗,重新思考口譯與口譯教學在實體或遠距環境下的意義,師生攜手一齊超前部署。\u0000 The COVID-19 outbreak has spread quickly to be a global pandemic in early 2020. The university to which the researcher’s translation and interpretation institute belongs had two confirmed cases in April. This ushered in university-wide remote teaching for three weeks as required by government measures to contain the viral spread. The mock conference, as originally scheduled for the same period, was conducted remotely as well. Many teachers and students of interpreting at the institute experienced for the first time both remote teaching of interpretation and a remote mock conference. \u0000The research aims to look into how teachers and students think about the new experience, including whether and how the remote interpreting classes and the mock conference differ from in-classroom experience, what implications there may be for the education and practice of conference interpreting once things go back to normal. \u0000A mixed research method was adopted. First, an online survey was administered to teachers and students of the institute right after the remote mock conference, which coincided with the end of the three-week remote teaching. The results from the survey later fed into in-depth interviews the researcher had with some of the respondents. \u0000 By analyzing findings from the survey and interviews, the study is expected to identify possible challenges and benefits of distance interpreting and remote interpreter training. \u0000For years, face-to-face interaction has been highly valued by both conference interpreters and educators. {"title":"專利「逆向翻譯」的成功因素探討","authors":"陳佳伶 陳佳伶","doi":"10.53106/199891482020011801003","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.53106/199891482020011801003","url":null,"abstract":"\u0000 「逆向翻譯」(inverse translation)──即「以書面或口頭形式從譯者的本族語言或常用語言譯出的翻譯形式」(Shuttleworth, 2004),其品質則大多被質疑可能不夠精準或必定存在錯誤。在此普遍的認定下,針對逆向翻譯的研究也相對稀少。Pokorn 2005年的研究證明,母語並非影響翻譯至目標語言的品質、流暢度及可接受度的絕對因素。本文以Pokorn提出的研究結果為出發點,針對以中文為母語的英譯者在逆向翻譯上的策略研究,訪談三位從事英文專利翻譯的專業譯者,提出此類文件的逆向翻譯在實務上所需具備的能力,並以英語為母語者的修訂意見作為主要資料,探討中文母語譯者在逆向翻譯上的表現。本研究提出專利領域逆向翻譯的成功因素,包括譯者自身語文專業能力和設定有效的翻譯策略,或可作為新進譯者學習的目標,及翻譯系所在課程設計上的參考。\u0000 The quality of “inverse translation”- that is, “a form of translation from the translator’s native or common language in written or oral form” (Shuttleworth, 2004), - has mostly been questioned as possibly inaccurate or necessarily erroneous. Under such a common assumption, research on inverse translation is also relatively scarce. Pokorn’s 2005 study demonstrates that mother tongue is not an absolute factor affecting the quality, fluency and acceptability of translation into the target language. This paper takes on Pokorn’s findings as the starting point, to investigate the strategies of Chinese-speaking English translators in inverse translation of patents. From the current situation of translation practice, three translators of patent specifications into English were interviewed to propose the required skills for inverse translation in the technical fields, mainly of patent specification translation. {"title":"「Rights」翻譯為「權/權利」的符號傳播觀點","authors":"陳雅齡 陳雅齡","doi":"10.53106/199891482020011801002","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.53106/199891482020011801002","url":null,"abstract":"\u0000 <p>翻譯的誕生多用來溝通兩種不同文化的讀者,然而譯者為找出對應的詞語有時不是那麼容易。從法律翻譯史看來,早期不同地區法律體系的交流多歸功於西方傳教士、商賈與作戰士兵,當時的他們必然能感受到東方與西方法律制度的截然不同,這些互動形成所謂「互為法律」的現象。究竟,華文世界大家熟悉的「權利」一詞是怎樣來的? 據考證,該詞彙源自於19世紀時中國翻譯西方國際法著作的 「Rights」一詞,西方「Rights」本有「直、正確、正義」之字源涵義,後來發展出「權力正當性與利益」及「個人自主性」之意涵。古中國文獻的「權」一詞則指「上位者權力」,「利」一詞帶有「謀利」之暗示,因此「Rights」一開始與 「權/權利」不甚吻合。法律本是一符號系統,不同的法律文化衍生出不同的系統。本文發現,「Rights = 權利」代表當時法律符號解釋者(即譯者)對符號發送者(即國際法原著) 的一連串協調過程,但法律概念表達傾向單義與精確性,解釋項終究會穩定下來而呈現較為單義的現象。</p>\u0000<p> </p><p>The birth of translated works is mostly a result of communicating with readers of different cultures. However, it may not be so easy for a translator to find the corresponding words or expressions. Glancing over the development of legal history, the spread of early legal cultures between China and the West has been through the interactions between missionaries, merchants, and soldiers in combat. At that time, the people in direct contact might feel a great difference between the legal systems of the East and the West. How did the concept of “Quán / Quán lì” (權/權利) give birth to the Chinese world? Quite a few verifications have proved that this expression occurs to reflect the meaning of the word “rights” in international law in the 19th century. As a pure legal concept, the term “rights” implies the legitimacy of power/interests and the autonomy of an individual. It has an origin of “straight, correct, and justice”. On the other hand, in Chinese culture, the word “Quán” refers to the “power of the superior” and the word “lì” is even more suggestive of “profit.” Therefore, “right” from the beginning does not quite match the meaning of “Quán / Quán lì.” Law is a system of signs while different legal cultures represent different systems of signs. “Rights = Quán / Quán lì” implies the coordination and interaction of the interpreters (i.e., the translators) with the senders of communicative signs (i.e., the authors of the original works). Principally, I will in this paper scrutinize one of the most important of the subjects portrayed in Paradise—black history and political and cultural development within the parameters of American culture. As important as a reformed present is for the activist Morrison, we may extend her view of “current” African-American history all that way back to the slavery era, for it is in this era that African-American modern history truly begins, and these people actually become involved in American life and culture in significant and important ways. Morrison has recognized the narrative possibilities of this “long view” of history reaching back some 160 years. This view accords with Morrison’s interest in ancestry and the ancestor, memory and ritual, and founding cultural mythologies. {"title":"司法通譯在司法體系中專家角色與功能","authors":"傅玫玲 傅玫玲","doi":"10.53106/199891482019071702003","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.53106/199891482019071702003","url":null,"abstract":"\u0000 由於對合格司法通譯需求增加,美國國會於1978年通過「法庭通譯員法案」 (The Court Interpreters Act),其訓練和遴選方式廣受國際認同與仿效。該法中法院通譯除通譯角色外,認證資格者亦具專家證人(臺灣鑑定人)資格,兩種角色於司法程序中功能不同。臺灣刑事訴訟法鑑定人之規定,第211條規定:「本節之規定,於通譯準用之」,民事訴訟法亦有此規定。本研究聚焦在通譯專家在司法程序中之功能,先比較美國和臺灣專家證人和鑑定人的規定及制度,並以文獻分析法分析幾件美國案件,再以訪談法訪談法院通譯和律師,以探討目前實務誤譯情況、爭議譯文處理方式、專家通譯的功能和專家資格。\u0000 Due to an increasing need for qualified legal interpreters at the time, the US Congress passed the Court Interpreters Act in 1978, which has become a model for selecting and training court interpreters internationally. In the US legal system, certified court interpreters often serve as experts in legal proceedings apart from their roles as interpreters. Taiwan’s code of criminal procedure stipulates that provisions in the expert section shall apply mutatis mutandis to interpreters. There are also similar regulations in the civil procedure code. This paper focuses on the role of interpreters as experts through comparing related regulations for experts as part of legal proceedings in the US and Taiwan.
