The current Learning Management Systems challenges refer to how to generate a dynamic content that automatically adapts to the a priori level of a student’s knowledge and behavior during lessons. Starting from the model student, the component of adaptive learning, the aim of this paper is to keep student motivation by designing a course with content related to the level of knowledge of the students. At the same time, lessons combine elements of gamification with quizzes, textual contexts and infographics in order to make the content more varied, and in order for the student to be more engaged, to assimilate, to understand or to recall the concepts presented in the course.","PeriodicalId":221827,"journal":{"name":"Balkan Region Conference on Engineering and Business Education","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133449312","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The scope of the study was to provide an insight on working students’ profile and the problems they are confronting with. Forty working students from the third year of Faculty of Engineering Sibiu were interviewed with regard of the research topic. Results of the study reflect the fact that a majority of working students face difficulties in school, having low grades or failed exams. The exam session seems to be a hard period for working students, and many of them find difficulties in attending all lectures or finding time to learn. Having a job while studying impacts personal activities, as well. Stress symptoms like: loss of appetite or overeating, difficulties in focusing, difficulties in taking decisions or feelings of restless are mentioned by the majority of working students. The results of the study are useful for the management of the faculty to come up with some measures to increase working students’ lectures attendance. Student support programs for reducing the stress among the group of working students must be developed as well.","PeriodicalId":221827,"journal":{"name":"Balkan Region Conference on Engineering and Business Education","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125545213","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Technical documentation is an umbrella term covering different types of technical documents (e.g. technical reports, manufacturing standards, installation guides, quick references cards, troubleshooting guides, release notes, etc.) which, irrespective of usage or function, observe general characteristics and share essential features whose effective recognition and knowledgeability facilitate students’ upward career trajectory. The topic is discussed from the perspective of two teaching priorities - awareness of stylistic features characteristic of technical documentation and awareness of performance standards in terms of technical documentation production - within the ESP (English for Specific Purposes) and BELF (English as Business Lingua Franca) frameworks that prioritize the performative and lingua franca dimensions of the English language use in the currently-emerging globalized workplaces.","PeriodicalId":221827,"journal":{"name":"Balkan Region Conference on Engineering and Business Education","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130335274","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The unexpected situations can have catastrophic consequences. Risk assessment tries to estimate to potential known unknowns, but there is no guarantee to foresee all circumstances around a project. In this situation the project team must be adaptive and find solutions by cooperation, creativity and abductive reasoning. In the paper we tried to analyse on what extent a project and a project team can be handled as a complex adaptive system. More precisely, how the scientific and practical achievements of the theory of complex adaptive systems (CAS) can be used in project management. More exactly, we analyse the applicability of the Holonic Multi-Agent Systems in risk management of the projects. We consider the way in which holons handle the unexpected situations can be a model in project management.","PeriodicalId":221827,"journal":{"name":"Balkan Region Conference on Engineering and Business Education","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127856722","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The availability of digital technologies has significantly increased in the last decade, shifting the focus of policy-makers from on the diffusion of these technologies to their usage by governments, companies and also individuals. Actually, digital technologies and internet became the main forces for transforming the modern world and its economy. Activating within a turbulent environment, Romania faced many challenges in the last three years, but it managed to perform better from period to period. Relative to the past performance, Romania registers a higher rate of digitalization, benefiting from coverage of rapid broadband connections, mostly in urban areas. This made Romania having the second highest share of subscriptions within the EU in 2016. Romania has developed increasingly fast over the last years and reached a position closer to the EU average, which translates into a positive evolution. While positive, the obtained results are not enough to compensate the country’s digital skills deficit.","PeriodicalId":221827,"journal":{"name":"Balkan Region Conference on Engineering and Business Education","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115720748","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper illustrates the application of some models of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to evaluate the relative efficiency of public universities from Romania using data collected from the official reports of the universities’ Rectors throughout the years 2012- 2015. We use the constant returns to scale (CRS) model and the variable returns to scale (VRS) model to determine the output. Afterwards, we calculate the value of scale efficiency. Based on these results, universities can be grouped into several layers of efficiency. We conclude that public authorities would consider the application of DEA method to generate additional performance indicators in assessing higher education institutions for improving accuracy in public funds allocation and distribution.","PeriodicalId":221827,"journal":{"name":"Balkan Region Conference on Engineering and Business Education","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131281052","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This will be achieved by using an approved and certified feed substitute (milk powder) to feed the calves instead of the cow’s milk so that the milk produced by the dairy cows can be delivered to customers. The differences between the cost of buying and feeding calves with this substitute and the income from selling milk are substantial. By this method, the income of the resort and that of any zootechnical farm will be maximized without endangering the health of the calves or the end-users. At the same time, we will disseminate the results obtained by applying this method in 2016, the results being conclusive.","PeriodicalId":221827,"journal":{"name":"Balkan Region Conference on Engineering and Business Education","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128573193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Far for being abandoned, the idea must recur by means of individual initiatives but also by systematic applications. The present work resumes the principles of ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) grading in the conditions when these became in Romania the subject of a law. Further the principles are analyzed, also as the practical experiments and the baleful consequences of an obtuse and profound limitative law which restricts the progress and the university initiative. We have drawn data from TripAdvisor with various features, like the location of each hotel, the cleanness, the number of the rooms, the price of each hotel and other similar criteria. The analysis was conducted by using two multicriteria analysis methods, namely AHP and VIKOR. Specifically, the well known AHP method will help us to calculate the weights of the criteria and the ranking of the alternatives is provided by VIKOR. The obtained results provide vital information, more specifically which country has the more attractive hotel industry, compared with the other countries. Based on the obtained results in this research, we can see that there are two countries with the best hotel services and the ranking has a particular interest, as all eight countries are famous for their tourist services.","PeriodicalId":221827,"journal":{"name":"Balkan Region Conference on Engineering and Business Education","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125476792","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
