It can provide frictionless bearings for micromechanical sensors applied to measure some types of weak forces, resulting from various physical effects, especially in nanotechnologies. Applied in the situation of these micro machines, diamagnetic levitation can naturally eliminate any wear and friction, which are two main factors affecting reliability and control of micro drives. The most important drawback of diamagnetic levitation is a fairly weak force offered per unit mass, which limits its use as a classic sole bearing support in case of systems having relatively low effective accelerations. This paper proves that the static magnetic field sources can bring small diamagnetic bodies in a free levitation. This demonstration and theoretical method involved, is used for material laboratories with students, in order to be more familiarized with this state of the art applications. Furthermore, when considering scale reduction for magnetism, it appears that diamagnetism is more efficient when the dimensions of the system are decreasing, in other words, what is difficult and complex to perform at macroscopic scale may become effortless and simple in the micro-size world This is another issue useful for future material specialists (now students).","PeriodicalId":213786,"journal":{"name":"2017 16th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"134 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131723067","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article presents the progress and evolution on the standardization and interoperability of the content of e-learning systems. Basically, it focuses specifically on the most widespread and emerging e-learning standards of organizations that are well known and are helping to ensure interoperability, reuse and maintain high quality content when an exchange thus transfer data between e-learning systems and applications. In this context, several organizations (IEEE, AICC, IMS, ADL, DCMI, OUN) and others that have been developed standards and specifications. This paper focuses on four organizations, each of which plays a role in the development of E-learning standards interoperability. For this study, we first tried to provide a detailed timeline for each standard that will provide an overview containing a well-crafted description of standards, specifications such as (SCORM, xAPI) for ADL, Caliper for IMS, their guidelines and define their strengths and weaknesses. We also talk about a recent collaborative project between organizations that have been developed by AICC and ADL such as CMI-5. Finally, a discussion on the evolution of interoperability standards for E-learning and its impact on the platforms of higher education and their perspectives with the new technologies such as mobile learning is presented.","PeriodicalId":213786,"journal":{"name":"2017 16th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"26 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123661707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It requires the quality of education, quality of research, the intensive relations with industries and other subjects, fostering relationships with partners as well as finding new ones. Pressures on the universities in the Slovak Republic are intensive and exhaustive. The technologies mainly digital technology change internal and external processes and provide opportunity for transformation. The paper deals with the fields of action of universities in quality assurance context. The university strategy includes the required level of outputs in relation with the inputs and processes. Today the universities define their strategy based on calculation their position on the market — the main source for comparison ranking agencies provide, on the internationalization implemented to the universities processes and on the calculation of university impact on the locality or region. The education quality assurance has become a necessary precondition of the accreditation process as well as for the position in rankings. Each university create its own procedure, using a different methodology. The University of Žilina, Slovakia chose a procedural approach. It was preceded by a detailed analysis of the situation and by the efforts to find examples of best practice at major global and European universities. This led to the creation of an internal system of education quality assurance at the university and to the creation of an original self-assessment tool. The tool would allow the assessment of the immediate level of maturity in the education quality assurance processes by the European Union and also the definition of the objectives of improvements for a next period.","PeriodicalId":213786,"journal":{"name":"2017 16th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122425950","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The new associated tools are expected to be used in the academic formation such as the Massive Open Online Courses. At the same time, microelectronics and nanotechnologies are increasingly involved in many fields of applications in order to create connected objects. Presently, the challenge for education is first to acquire a good knowledge that can be obtained, at least partially, through tools available on internet that can provide the students with a good knowledge. However, this approach appears more and more insufficient because practice must be given through face-to-face learning in order to better assimilate the knowledge, either by the way of exercises and problem solving, or above all by the know-how learning. Thus the pedagogical approach must evolve in order to adapt the content to these new targets. This approach was adopted by the French network for education in microelectronics and nanotechnologies. After a presentation of the context and of the organization of the network, several examples of new practices concerning all the aspects of the domain, CAD, testing, physical and electrical characterizations, and technological processes, will be presented and discussed.","PeriodicalId":213786,"journal":{"name":"2017 16th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115346220","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We focus on widespread belief that students have specific learning styles and that education should be individualized to the extent that the pedagogy of teaching/learning is matched to the preferred style of the student. We also investigate the belief that students ought to be seen as self-educators who should be given maximum control over how they are learning and what is their learning trajectory. For that purpose, we have developed the methodology that investigate how can we match learning style with educational materials delivery in the e-learning environment. We also compare the obtained educational results and learners' perception for the quality of experience. This paper presents results of experiment using that methodology. The experiment involved 70 students within two different courses in computer science during one semester.","PeriodicalId":213786,"journal":{"name":"2017 16th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"151 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114520516","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, the difficulties found when trying to install the computer programming environment used in the university courses prevent many students from practicing at home. Hence, they can only practice during the computer laboratory lessons, or when the laboratories are available for the students. This limitation negatively affects the learning process. In order to reduce this obstacle, we have replaced the conventional IDE used in our courses by a web-based IDE called Codeboard. Among other advantages, this environment has the ability to collect statistics about the number of accesses to the developed projects, the number of compilations and runs of the corresponding programs, and the number of global accesses per day. Thus, it enables teachers to monitor the activities of the students both in lectures and at home. After using this tool for a semester, in this paper we report the statistics that are collected when using Codeboard, the limitations we have found in this tool, and how they could be easily overcome in order to perform a better analysis. We also report on the results of this preliminary experience by comparing the results of three consecutive courses (taught by the same instructors and using the same materials) in order to evaluate the influence of Codeboard on the learning process.","PeriodicalId":213786,"journal":{"name":"2017 16th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"1980 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131181409","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

OpenAnswer (OA) models a peer assessment session as a Bayesian network. For each student, a sub-network contains variables describing relevant aspects of both the individual cognitive state and the state of the current assessment session. Sub-networks are interconnected to each other to obtain the final one. Evidence propagated through the global network is represented by all the grades given by students to their peers, together with a subset of the teacher's corrections. Among the possible affecting factors, the paper reports about the investigation of the dependence of grades prediction performance on the quality of the class, i.e., the average level of proficiency of its students, and on the number of peers assessed by each student. The results show that both factors affect the accuracy of the inferred marks produced by the Bayesian network, when compared with the available ground-truth produced by teachers.","PeriodicalId":213786,"journal":{"name":"2017 16th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127122603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, most QM tools do not impact teaching and learning directly. We investigated how peer reviewing can be used as a tool to improve the quality of teaching and learning. Therefore, this method is tested with Master students in an inquiry-based learning scenario using a three-step research process. First, in the peer review phase, the students gave feedback on each other's research papers; second, at the end of the course, they handed in their personal learning reports; third, we conducted a quantitative survey about peer review as a learning process. The results show that the implementation of peer reviewing as a QM tool still needs to be improved. We learned that the peer feedback was helpful in the majority of the cases and the review process improved each students' final results. Nevertheless, the majority of the students did not think that it was very helpful and significantly contributed to their learning process. We conclude that the student need to be better instructed how the process works and what to focus on mostly. For the next course, this will improve the peer review process and the learning experience.","PeriodicalId":213786,"journal":{"name":"2017 16th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121980319","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this paper is to study how strong is the university-firm cooperation influence on firm value chains and how can this cooperation influence firm and university innovation and performance. The empirical analysis is based on data gathered through a questionnaire administered to a sample of Slovak SMEs operated in the area of ICT. The findings show that only contractual university-firm relationships have a direct and significant effect on innovation, whereas relational activities promote and support contractual activities. The findings have managerial implications not just for firms, but also for universities. University-firm relationships contribute to regional and global development, because they foster innovation processes regarding firms' strategies at those. In this liaison, universities' role usually is to promote knowledge-based economic development, which is basic for sustainable economic growt. The higher education institutions are facing an increasingly competitive environment with growing financial constraints, universities are strongly motivated to engage more actively with the firm, so as to establish new funding streams and secure additional research investment. This relationship should be beneficial for both firms and universities. Innovative firms are constantly searching for new ways to internalize external knowledge into their production function. With this aim, firms have found that the university-firm cooperation is a valuable mechanism to access to new technological resources, which can contribute to faster development of innovation, improved market access, economies of scale and scope, and cost sharing and risk spreading In this context, universities have been recognized as a capable research partner for solving R&D problems and as advisers on technology strategies and by supporting the technology generation and/or the adoption of a new technology. Moreover, the cooperation with universities has been characterized by the timely appropriation of very-new technological opportunities and by the increment on the innovation sales, as well as the increase in the propensity to apply for patents. Several empirical studies have attempted to identify the factors determining the university-firm cooperation in innovation activities, concluding that this type of cooperation is based on the complementarity on the innovation processes, and on the uncertainty level of the innovation results. On the other hand, and based on a firm level analysis, some authors concluded that university-firm cooperation depends on the firm's absorptive capacity, on its innovative capacity, on its proximity to fundamental research, and in some firm-specific characteristics, like size and industrial affiliation.","PeriodicalId":213786,"journal":{"name":"2017 16th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128505870","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
