At Johannes Kepler University in Linz, Austria, an electronic examination room was established in 2011 and is being continuously developed since then. It has emerged as a user-friendly and highly automated means of administering assessments in multiple faculties. Digital signatures involving the students' identity cards are utilized to ensure legally binding and highly secure submissions. This research discusses preliminary findings and presents the outcome of a current evaluation.","PeriodicalId":213786,"journal":{"name":"2017 16th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134536694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Teaching students about such concepts and more importantly, making them aware of the many competency components (often called KSA — knowledge, skills, abilities) required in the development of IoT systems, services and products has been a major aim in the teaching design presented in this paper. The snowball metaphor symbolizes added layers of input, comments and suggestions delivered by Belgian, Swedish and Chinese students respectively, to peers with different backgrounds (study level, subject major, etc.). Open-platform exercises using Arduino kits are used as starting points and reports. Conceptualizations and suggestions are carried through the snowball “chain”, which ends nearly two years later. Knowledge components are delivered e.g. through lectures. Among skills developed are practice in receiving input from and delivering output to groups different also in culture, knowledge, etc. Abilities include a demonstrated (and graded) proficiency in combining the acquired set of components, as demonstrated in workshops, discussions and reports, and in a proposed feedback loop to Sweden from China (not yet implemented).","PeriodicalId":213786,"journal":{"name":"2017 16th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123979208","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Firstly, lecture-style teaching was conducted with presentation slides in order to explain the contents of a textbook. Secondly, students were required to do exercises and quizzes. By using the last eight weeks, they were asked to create presentation slides outside a class to introduce the up-to-date topics on artificial intelligence. These slides were mutually evaluated among them so that they developed their own slides based on the feedback before the tenth week of the course for the second round of mutual evaluations. Questionnaires concerning students' understanding technical terms of the field and consciousness-raising towards competence were also conducted before and after the programs. The learning effects of a module in ‘AI Technology’ are compared with my previous research outcome of the module, ‘Artificial Intelligence’. This paper reports their results.","PeriodicalId":213786,"journal":{"name":"2017 16th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131646537","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For instance, in university Java programming courses, many exercises and exams are projects, often composed of a set of classes that the student must complete and usually complement with new classes. In programming, there are often many different (usually infinite) correct solutions to the same problem, and this forces the teacher to inspect all delivered files, and to test the student's code to identify errors. It has been measured [5] that, in advanced courses, this process can be so complex that teachers make mistakes when correcting, with an average error over 5% of the mark.","PeriodicalId":213786,"journal":{"name":"2017 16th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128949140","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

So there is a growing interest among teachers in using digital games as a part of their lesson plans. DGBL (Digital game-based learning) has become a viable instructional option in recent years due to its support of learning motivation. In this article, a Virtual Reality game developed for Elementary school students to learning Taiwan's aboriginal tribes. This VR game based on the immersive learning theory to design eight learning situations for students to learn their native language. Through immersive learning environment, students can get visual shock, and then stimulate their learning motivation. This game developed based on the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) and took two years to complete each stage, respectively.","PeriodicalId":213786,"journal":{"name":"2017 16th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132284336","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Indeed, the recent development in systems and technologies provided many areas with data processing technologies to extract meaningful information from massive amounts of data. A good example of areas where the generated data is voluminous is eLearning, e.g. Massive Open Online Courses (Moocs). One of the main challenges in Moocs is the real-time processing of this data, coming from diversified sources, with respect to semantics. In this regard, this paper investigates the use of Semantic Complex Event processing in the analysis of the data generated through Moocs.","PeriodicalId":213786,"journal":{"name":"2017 16th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129703796","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
