In particular, upcycling Nickel (Ni) ions into electrocatalytic material has been proven a feasible route, but the current methods are still restricted by the complicated, environmentally-aggressive operation. Herein, we propose a low-cost, 3D-structured adsorbent, constructed by in-situ growing ZIF-8 on network-structured bacterial cellulose, for efficient Ni capture. It exhibits superior stability and 7.3-times higher Ni adsorption kinetics than the ZIF-8 alone. Importantly, the Ni-enriched adsorbent, after treatment of Ni-containing electroplating wastewater, could be pyrolytically converted into an efficient self-supported electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction (OER), showing comparable OER activity to the state-of-the-art Ni-based electrode. This work provides a sustainable, facile route for Ni upcycling into self-supported electrode, which may be extended to recovery of various valuable metals from waste streams.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":21153,"journal":{"name":"Resources Conservation and Recycling","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":11.2,"publicationDate":"2024-09-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142148751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":1,"RegionCategory":"环境科学与生态学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research integrates sensitivity analysis, Pedigree Matrix, and Monte Carlo simulation into a robust stochastic Life cycle Assessment (LCA) for comparing carbon emissions of HMA and CMA pavement systems. First, influential inputs are identified by a sensitivity analysis and assessed by the Pedigree Matrix to obtain data quality scores. Second, the transformative relationship between quality scores and Beta distribution quantifies the uncertainty of influential inputs. Third, the Monte Carlo simulation propagates uncertainty from influential inputs to stochastic results. Stochastic simulations demonstrate that the probability of life cycle carbon emissions of the HMA exceeding the CMA pavement system is 99.74 % in the investigated case. This study enables the evaluation of confidence intervals to determine more sustainable alternatives in comparative pavement LCA.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":21153,"journal":{"name":"Resources Conservation and Recycling","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":11.2,"publicationDate":"2024-09-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142148750","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":1,"RegionCategory":"环境科学与生态学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study demonstrated that utilizing long-term and intensive monitoring records, along with a ML algorithm to model the P response of the water body, resulted in good robustness and accuracy. Watershed P flows have a significant impact on P flux, and the response of P flux exhibits non-linear and non-lagged characteristics. The SFA–ML coupled model advances the current understanding of how P flows contribute to guiding P cycling in a watershed. Its recycling has been largely confined to laboratory research due to prohibitive costs and high energy consumption. A cost-efficient methodology based on room-temperature mixing process is introduced for the mixture of boron mud and epoxy resin to produce nuclear radiation shielding composites (BMERCs). BMERCs demonstrate shielding performance comparable to high-end composites. The study provides a deep understanding of the relationships between neutron energy attenuation capabilities and the composition of boron mud, identifying hydrogen and boron as the primary elements contributing to neutron attenuation. Regression models were developed based on the dual-level mechanisms to enhance the fabrication of BMERCs, aiming to achieve optimal shielding performance for future application. Using a game-theoretical model, a third hybrid strategy is defined. The paper examines the impact of market characteristics, investment requirements, IS costs, and primary input purchase costs on the strategic choices of waste producers, providing insights for managers and decision-makers. However, little is known about the factors controlling SOC pools in subsoils, and the response of SOC stability to sustainable cropping patterns (e.g., intercropping) remains to be determined. A 10-year experimental field experiment data indicated that cereal–legume intercropping improved net yield gain averagely by 2.2–4.9 t ha<sup>-1</sup>. SOC storage increased in the topsoil but declined significantly by 5.3% in the subsoil. The increase in soil nitrogen (13.3%) across soil profile resulted in 14.5% decrease in soil C/N. Unexpectedly, microbial growth was evidently stimulated, thereby accelerating SOC decomposition. Interestingly, this process also contributed to the stability of the existing SOC pool. Our results suggest that the adoption of intercropping indeed can improve land use efficiency at a relatively long time scale, but its functional role in subsoil C storage and stability needs to be reconsidered.</p></div>","PeriodicalId":21153,"journal":{"name":"Resources Conservation and Recycling","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":11.2,"publicationDate":"2024-09-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"142136646","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":1,"RegionCategory":"环境科学与生态学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here, we evaluate the evolution of major air pollutant emissions during 1990−2020 and explore mitigation pathways for future sustainable development, based on a developed unit-level global cement emissions database. Our findings indicate that strengthening emission standards is an effective strategy for decoupling air pollutant emissions from clinker production, particularly for emerging economies. Without stringent emission controls, these economies contributed to 49.1%, 39.8% and 74.1% of SO2, NOx, and PM2.5 emissions in 2020. With stricter standards, emerging economies can achieve a 0.6 Mt NOx emission reduction despite a 70% growth in cement demand from 2020 to 2060. Rivers are more exposed to light pollution worldwide without sufficient sleep, which has significant adverse effects on riparian ecosystems. However, there is still a scarcity of quantification regarding the spatiotemporal variations of river light pollution (RLP) at the global scale. In this study, we proposed a light pollution index (LPI) and calculated the annual LPIs of 12,530 rivers worldwide from 2000 to 2022. The result shows that global RLP has increased rapidly, especially after 2010. Globally, the centroid of gravity of RLP has been shifting eastward annually, with a gradual southeastward trend since 2010. RLP in the world's 25 large populous countries was mainly classified into three types.
