The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) presents opportunities that may influence agricultural greenhouse gas (Ag-GHG) emissions in the region. Hence, this study investigated the trends and drivers of Ag-GHG emissions in SEA since 1961 and BRI effect on them, using Mann-Kendall tests, Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index decomposition, and panel data models. While regional Ag-GHG emissions plateaued, the national trajectories fell into three categories: past peaks, plateaus, and growing; and countries in the plateau category account for over 90 % of the regional emissions. Since 1961, the key drivers of Ag-GHG emissions have included population growth (+210 %), rising agricultural labor productivity (+175 %), and a moderate increase in emission intensity (+17 %). However, these trends have been offset by gains in agricultural land productivity (-67 %) and the effects of urbanization (-40 %). Panel data models indicate that the BRI has had a statistically significant negative impact on Ag-GHG emissions in SEA, reducing emissions by 6–8 %. This decline was partially mediated by an increase in agricultural exports. The study provides valuable insights of BRI impact and underlying drivers on Ag-GHG emissions in SEA. These findings can guide policy decisions for integration into BRI to mitigate agricultural emissions in the region.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":21153,"journal":{"name":"Resources Conservation and Recycling","volume":"220 ","pages":"Article 108343"},"PeriodicalIF":11.2,"publicationDate":"2025-05-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143899044","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":1,"RegionCategory":"环境科学与生态学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using open GPS trajectory data, this study quantifies the spatial and temporal patterns of NbR in China’s non-urban areas (NUA). Results reveal that when China’s NUA are divided into 1 km grids, NbR trajectories are distributed across 8.67 % of these grids. Spatial autocorrelation analysis reveals the significant clustering pattern of NbR activities. The 1 km-resolution density map of NbR trajectories indicates that the number of NbR activities per unit area follows a power-law distribution. Using the Getis-Ord Gi* method, we identify the hotspots of NbR activities covering 0.21 % of China’s NUA, of which 31.13 % are within protected areas (PAs). The average density of NbR trajectories of NUA within PAs is 1.75 times that of NUA outside PAs. 59.96 % of terrestrial national nature reserves face higher NbR activity density pressure than their buffer zones. Our findings highlight the NbR pressure challenges faced by China’s PAs, contribute to optimizing China’s management of NbR and PAs. This study proposes a framework for using open GPS trajectories to analyze NbR activities in NUA and PAs at a national scale, which can be adapted in other countries.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":21153,"journal":{"name":"Resources Conservation and Recycling","volume":"220 ","pages":"Article 108340"},"PeriodicalIF":11.2,"publicationDate":"2025-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143890984","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":1,"RegionCategory":"环境科学与生态学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Results show that, in 2060, incorporating demand-side measures—compared to relying solely on supply-side technologies—reduces required carbon capture and storage (CCS)-equipped clinker capacity from 941.9 to 353.8 Mt/year, inter-provincial CO₂ transport from 182.6 to 41.7 Mt/year, and mitigation costs from 246 to 217 CNY/tCO₂. These measures also enable net-negative emissions of -69.0 Mt CO₂/year. Spatial analysis highlights Henan, Hebei, Sichuan, and Anhui provinces as priority regions for CCS deployment across all scenarios, reflecting the existing industrial structure and proximity to geological storage sites. Lignin, a key biomass component, can be converted into valuable compounds via polyoxometalate catalysis. Traditional methods require trial-and-error in catalyst selection and reaction optimization, leading to high consumption of chemical reagents and significant waste of resources, energy, and time. To address these issues, we integrated machine learning to develop a predictive modeling and reverse design system for lignin depolymerization, optimizing catalyst selection and reaction conditions. Among the models evaluated, the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) outperformed others, achieving R2 values of 0.91, 0.90, and 0.90 for lignin conversion and phenol/acetophenone yield prediction, respectively. Incorporating virtual sample generation (VSG) and prior knowledge significantly improved prediction accuracy, increasing the average R2 of the models from 0.66 to 0.98. Despite the recent reduction of peat use and the expansion of the peat-free segment, peat use is still economically advantageous and is not expected to end without additional measures. In this study, we investigated market prices of potting soils and their constituents as well as policy options for a peat exit. Despite no distinct difference in the price of constituents, peat-free potting soils cost on average 21 % more than peat-containing products. A peat tax, a subsidy for other constituents or a carbon pricing are expected to be complex to implement and could have adverse side effects. Comparatively, a peat ban in hobby gardening could be an effective solution with minimal negative consequences. The value of the framework is demonstrated through a window assembly example that assesses operation and embodied energy impacts of the different restoration strategies. The triple BPNN architecture, which separately models raw meal grinding, clinker calcination, and clinker homogenization, demonstrates superior prediction accuracy. By integrating SE-DEA within NSGA-II, the algorithm achieves balanced optimization across multiple performance metrics. Cement produced using this optimization framework demonstrates improved long-term mechanical properties, with 28-day compressive strength ranking in the top 4.11 % and 28-day flexural strength in the top 7.41 % of the historical production data from the same facility.
