It has been stated that risk factors that cause immunosuppression play a role in the spread of cancer cells. Anesthetic agent, which is a perioperative factor, may affect the risk of cancer recurrence by disrupting the immune system. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of regional anesthesia (RA) and general anesthesia (GA) on non-muscle invasive bladder cancers (NMIBC) recurrence. \u0000Materials and methods: A total of one hundred seventy-eight patients who underwent transurethral bladder tumor resection (TURBT) for NMIBC and underwent surgery under GA or RA between 2011 and 2016 in the urology departments of Pamukkale University and Uludağ University were included in the study. In the first group, 80 patients had RA. In the second group, 98 patients underwent GA during TURBT for NMIBC. \u0000Results: The recurrence time was shorter in the GA group (5.5 months) than in the RA group (11 months) (p=0.015). First-year relapse was higher in the GA group than in the RA group (p=0.048), but there was no difference in third-year relapse between groups (p=0.810). The mean recurrence time was 11 months (95% CI; 9.058 - 12.942) in the RA group and 5 months (95% CI; 2.090 - 7.910) in the GA group (p=0.031). \u0000Conclusion: During transurethral resection of the bladder tumor, an increase in the recurrence time was observed in patients with intermediate-risk NMIBC who received RA compared to patients who received GA. Material and Methods: 138 patients were divided into three groups: patients with vitamin D deficiency, patients with vitamin D insufficiency, and patients with adequate vitamin D levels. 12-lead electrocardiography and laboratory data were collected. Results: The resting heart rate, PR interval, QRS duration, QTd, and Tp-e dispersion were similar among the groups. However, the QTc interval was significantly prolonged in patients with vitamin D deficiency, when compared to patients with sufficient vitamin D levels. Vitamin D level was found as the only independent predictor of the QTc interval. The cut-off value of Vitamin D level determining the significant prolongation of QTc interval was found to be 20 ng/ml on ROC analysis (Area Under Curve: 0,629±0.051 (95% CI: 0,530-0.728, p=0.013). Conclusion: Low vitamin D levels are associated with QTc prolongation in the elderly. Vitamin D-deficient elderly patients may benefit from routine ECG screening. Timely diagnosis and treatment of vitamin D deficiency may aid in reducing the rate of arrhythmias in this patient population.

The increase in adipose tissue observed in obesity causes proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokine imbalance. Accumulating evidence on quercetin, one of the antioxidants frequently used in obesity treatment, suggests that quercetin has significant anti-obesity and lipid-lowering effects simultaneously. We hypothesized that quercetin supplementation could improve obesity parameters and restore adipokine balance in obese mice. Sprague Dawley rats, 8-10 weeks of age, were divided into 4 groups, including a control group (C), high fructose (HF) group, quercetine (Q) group, and high fructose+quercetin (HF+Q) group. Fructose was administered to HF groups as a 20% solution in drinking water for 6 weeks. The rats in the Q groups were given 50 mg quercetin per kg BW by gavage for the next 4 weeks. The body weight, lee index, TG, HDL, fasting insülin, fasting glucose, and HOMA-IR were determined in rats. ADP and resistin levels were determined by ELISA assay from perirenal adipose tissue homogenates. We showed that quercetin acts to improve TG, fasting glucose and insulin resistance in high fructose-fed rats. In this study, we found no effect of quercetin on perirenal adipose tissue ADP and resistin levels. These results showed that high fructose could induce obesity in rats, while quercetin could favorably affect these parameters.
