Ultrasonic manipulation, which uses acoustic radiation forces, is a contactless manipulation technique. When the particles suspended in a fluid, the ultrasound radiation forces made the particles concentrate in a designated location. Here it is reported on a simulation for two-dimensional arraying based on the superposition of two in-plane orthogonally oriented standing pressure waves. First, we do the simulation of one-dimensional acoustic field with the FEA software of ANSYS. Then, we got the two-dimensional acoustic field by modify the PZT model. We make the particles concentration when the model was excited with a 14 V amplitude signal at 1.5 MHz.","PeriodicalId":190941,"journal":{"name":"2008 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129112120","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are two methods to increase FOG's precision and stability, that is, to maintain or eliminate the state of polarization in fiber. Using Lyot fiber depolarizer not only reduces the effects of the states of polarization on the performance of FOG, but decreases the cost of FOG to a large extent, which is quite suit for the medium and low precision FOG. This article analyzes the principle of Lyot fiber depolarizer and the interchangeable character of input and output ports, deduces the structural parameters of Lyot fiber depolarizer and discusses the effects of parameters on the depolarizer's performance with Jones matrix. What's more, polarization transformation and polarization errors in depolarized fiber optic gyroscope (DFOG) are discussed in detail. Experimental result shows that the depolarizer we designed is very effective to reduce the drift of FOG, and depolarized fiber optic gyroscope is suit for fields using medium precision FOG. The analysis provides academic guidance to depolarizer used in depolarized fiber gyroscope or other fiber optic sensors.","PeriodicalId":190941,"journal":{"name":"2008 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127335858","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With using the method of homogenized layer and neglecting the thermal effects on the structure, the solution for the stress distribution of the functional gradient material plate having radial arbitrary elastic modulus is derived based on the known results of a single thick layer cylinder structure, and the continuous conditions of stress and displacement along the interfaces. When the number of the layer N rarr infin, one can obtain an exact solution. But, since the N is taken as a finite number in general cases, so only an approximate solution can be presented. As an example, a functional gradient material plate with different radial elastic modulus is selected for numerical calculation. It is shown that the stress is greatly reduced as the radial elastic modulus increased, and moreover the stress level varies when the radial elastic modulus increased in different ways. Thus, it can be concluded that the stress around the circular hole in the functional gradient material plate can be effectively reduced by choosing the proper change ways of the radial elastic modulus.","PeriodicalId":190941,"journal":{"name":"2008 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134181756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Research work on its mechanical behavior has still been inadequate so far, which leaves room for a further discussion on the three-dimensional piezothermoelastic coupled analysis of FGPM annular plates. Suppose that all the electric, thermal and mechanical material properties have the same exponential distribution, a model of piezothermoelastic coupled FGPM annular plate fixed at two boundaries is obtained from the basic equations of isotropic FGPM 3-D problem. Examples are presented to prove the correctness and show the superiority of this method. The simulation is used to predict time-domain history of field displacements vertical to the surface of the steel specimen. We focus on the behavior of the reflection and transmission coefficient of the Rayleigh waves from such cracks in the far field of the crack, when the crack depth is comparable to the wavelength of the interrogating surface wave. The theoretical, finite-difference, and experimental results presented are in very good agreement over the range were the crack depth is much smaller or much larger compared to the wavelength of the incident Rayleigh wave. In the transition regime, between these two limiting cases, only the finite-difference and experimental data show good agreement since the theoretical predictions are no longer applicable. Furthermore, based on the finite-difference simulation and the laser interferometric measurement, the transmission coefficient of the surface wave scattering from the small surface crack was presented.","PeriodicalId":190941,"journal":{"name":"2008 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116297959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The stator components of proposed motor contain a cylinder and four bending transducers, and the four uniform bending transducers are set on the exterior surface of cylinder. The bending of transducers is excited by the longitudinal vibration of PZT ceramics. The four transducers are excited with two different groups of signal, and two bending vibrations are generated on the cylinder. When the amplitude of two bending vibrations is equal, and their phase difference on time and space is pi/2, a traveling wave is formed on the cylinder. Thus, an elliptical motion is achieved at the particle on the tooth. And the frictional force between rotor and stator is the driving force to realize the rotation motion of rotor. The PZT ceramics work with d33 mode, which have high electromechanical coupling efficiency and could improve the output characteristics. The working principle of proposed motor was analyzed. The cylinder and transducers were designed with FEM. The sensitive parameters of resonance frequency of transducer and cylinder were gained with modal analysis. The bending resonance frequency of transducers and cylinder were degenerated, and the motion trajectories of nodes on the teeth were analyzed. The result of transient analysis shows that the trajectory of node on the tooth is nearly an ellipse. The results of this paper could be useful in the development of this new type of motor.","PeriodicalId":190941,"journal":{"name":"2008 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications","volume":"127 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114660027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The measurement setup consists of a capacitor, an impedance converter and a voltmeter. Based on the piezoelectric equation and the basic circuit theory, the mathematical expression between the pre-stress and the voltage across the capacitor is derived. The pre-stress level can then be calculated out of the measurement of the capacitor voltage. In order to evaluate the precision of this method, a force washer is used to measure the pre-stress of the Langevin transducer. The result shows the pre-stress level obtained from this method is 30-40% higher than the pre-stress level measured by the force washer. This method is simple and can be used to estimate the pre-stress of various Langevin transducers. The precision of this method can be raised if d33 is identified under different pre-stress levels.","PeriodicalId":190941,"journal":{"name":"2008 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124962132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
