A methodology of detecting micro-cracks or degradation of material using quasi matrix pencil method is presented in this paper. The damage is represented by small local elastic modulus reduction. Response of axisymmetric longitudinal guided waves to the presence of modulus reduction is studied using the Finite Element Method (FEM). Only the axisymmetric damage is considered here. By using this method to calculate the dispersion relation of excited wave mode, the small modulus reduction can be detected. Using the velocity of excited guided wave and the time point at which the calculated dispersion curve changing, the damage can be located. So this method can be used to find micro-cracks or material degradation at the early stage of fracture.","PeriodicalId":190941,"journal":{"name":"2008 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications","volume":"671 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115119898","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If the variation of the material properties obeys the exponential law, three-dimensionally exact solutions are obtained for two specific boundary conditions, which rigorously satisfy the governing equations and boundary conditions at every point. Alternatively, semi-analytical solutions are obtained for arbitrary variation of material properties. Numerical examples are finally shown to demonstrate the present method.","PeriodicalId":190941,"journal":{"name":"2008 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications","volume":"235 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115441255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, few studies are made for theoretically studying the fluid motion induced by the acoustic field and forced heat transfer for micro cooling in microdevices. In this paper, Navier-Stokes equations are first employed to study acoustic radiation force and acoustic streaming in microchannel actuated by ultrasonic vibration. Then, an analytical study of fluid motion acoustically induced and the temperature field in microchannel is investigated to determine the enhancement of cooling effect in microchannel with acoustic streaming.","PeriodicalId":190941,"journal":{"name":"2008 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126943106","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the design of TFBAR products, how to determine the frequency is always the starting point. The thickness-extension type of resonators can produce higher frequency, as it has been proven through products on the market. For the thickness-shear types of resonators, precise calculation of vibration frequency is important in the design. We established a vibration model of TFBAR and obtained the frequency equation based on the layered infinite plates. The frequency equation can be used to evaluate a design, or select structural parameters based on the given frequency. Our frequency equation has been validated with experimental data.","PeriodicalId":190941,"journal":{"name":"2008 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications","volume":"193 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123002718","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was found that due to the their different acoustic penetration depths inside the liquid the changes of the surface characteristics of the sensor and the characteristics of liquid near the surface can be identified respectively by combined A0 and S0 modes simultaneously. At the same time, the mass sensitivities of both A0 mode and S0 mode of a 2 mum Lamb wave sensor were demonstrated experimentally. Characteristic wave (or pseudo-Rayleigh wave) in acoustic full waveform can evaluate the cementing quality of the secondary interface in cased boreholes. Before evaluating the cementing quality of secondary interface, we must analyze bath propagation velocity and amplitude of the characteristic wave. To achieve this, we simulate the acoustic full waveform and 2-D spectrum (frequency-wavenumber spectrum) for various cementing quality of the secondary interface based on the real axis integration method, and analyze relation between bath velocity and amplitude of the characteristic wave and thickness of the water layer on the secondary interface. The simulating results for the waveform and 2-D spectrum of characteristic wave indicate that the velocity of characteristic wave is influenced by the velocity of bath the casing and cement annulus together and is small than that of cased wave. The velocity is increasing and up to the velocity of cased wave with the thickness of water layer. In efficient range of the thickness of water layer, the amplitude of characteristic wave is increasing with the thickness of water layer. Moreover, we validate the simulation results by comparing with experiment data in calibration pits. It is shown that the difference of amplitude or velocity for the characteristic wave can indicate the cementing quality of the secondary interface. These results are of great importance to build the standards of extracting the characteristic wave and criteria of evaluating the cementing quality of the secondary interface.","PeriodicalId":190941,"journal":{"name":"2008 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129499885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Similar to the electromagnetic wave propagation in a photonic crystal, the phononic crystal also has the property of phononic band gap for the sound or mechanical wave. That is, certain frequency band of sound or mechanical wave cannot pass the phononic crystal. It is believed that the phononic crystal can be used as widely as photonic crystal. The Transfer Matrix Method, finite element method and experiment are used to study the vibration proof property of a rod like 1D phononic crystal. To improve the bound strength between different materials, we designed a new structure with covers at the joints. The computational results show that such a structure still has the band gap whose width is three times wider, and the frequency range of wave will be minimized. The work in the paper explores the engineering application of the functional phononic crystals, and prepares the theory and the experiment for the design and analysis of more complicate phononic band gap structures.","PeriodicalId":190941,"journal":{"name":"2008 Symposium on Piezoelectricity, Acoustic Waves, and Device Applications","volume":"148 11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121600407","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
