It is reasonable to say that right of resistance it might be a trap, put up by Hobbes himself, and taken as the basis of his theory. But what is the limit for that idea? I try to point out how to dissolve that apparent trap and show that an invitation to right of resist it is not what Hobbes was doing at that time.","PeriodicalId":175674,"journal":{"name":"Cadernos de Ética e Filosofia Política","volume":"25 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141836264","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Argumenta-se que a ordenação da acusação pública fortaleceu o controle sobre conflitos sociais que poderiam ser nocivos ao exercício da liberdade civil. Esta instituição impediu que as dissensões entre a plebe e a nobreza resultassem em desordens sociais que pudessem adoecer o corpo político. Descreve-se a função das acusações públicas e como as calúnias poderiam interferir na estabilidade da república. A análise foi norteada pela leitura do capítulo 7 e 8 do livro I do Discorsi. Em Roma, as acusações resultavam em punição e as calúnias eram controladas, diferente do que aconteceu em Florença, cidade natal de Maquiavel.","PeriodicalId":175674,"journal":{"name":"Cadernos de Ética e Filosofia Política","volume":"26 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141836122","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article sustains that the understanding of political ideologies, built on Michael Freeden’s morphological approach, enables new forms of thinking about representation and its relation to democracy. By ascribing stable and determined meanings to essentialy contested concepts, ideologies dispute over the control of policial language and also perform an integrative function, simbolically attaching and individual to its society, allowing the sharing of the contentes of the individual conscience. From Nadia Urbinati’s work, it defends the centrality of recovering the ideological dimension in politics so as to attain a notion of democratic representation, which implies to comprehend the deliberative role of political ideologies and the hybrid character of this systems of thought, which contain racional and non-rational elements.","PeriodicalId":175674,"journal":{"name":"Cadernos de Ética e Filosofia Política","volume":"31 23","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141836228","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Next, we will analyze the role of the notion of savage democracy in three texts by Lefort: two dedicated to the May 68 events, A desordem nova and Releitura as well as the preface to the second edition of the work Éléments d'une critique de la bureaucratie. Finally, we will present the recent discussion in Lefortian studies regarding the fertility of the term savage democracy mainly relating to two important themes for Lefort: the dimension of conflict in democracies and the relationship of law with democratic struggles.","PeriodicalId":175674,"journal":{"name":"Cadernos de Ética e Filosofia Política","volume":"18 21","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141836441","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this disunity, Machiavelli recognizes that the people’s desire is more reliable and in accordance with freedom, since it refuses the domination of the grandi and, therefore, does not allow freedom to be usurped. However, although the Florentine highlights the link between the people's desire and freedom, he does not clarify how the people produce laws and ordinances in favor of free life. Thus, to understand how the action of the people reorders the social body according to their desire, we will investigate the dynamics of this mood in its conflict with the great, in chapters 4 and 5 of the first book of Machiavelli’s Discourses on Livy, and we will then turn to chapter 40 of the first book of this work, as at this moment Machiavelli discusses a reorganization of Rome that opposed the common people and the nobles to understand the extraordinary action of the people and their desire in its dynamics with the desire of the grandi. Our proposal, therefore, is to show how the people reorder the city towards a democratic experience according to their desire not to be dominated.","PeriodicalId":175674,"journal":{"name":"Cadernos de Ética e Filosofia Política","volume":"13 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141836361","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The friend and enemy duality, as a criterion of differentiation par excellence, consists of the elementary foundation for the definition of the political. Schmitt seeks to highlight the controversial nature of a conflictual dimension underlying the political, turning against the alleged attempts of liberalism to try to remote not only the centrality of the conflict, but also its autonomous character, promoting depoliticization and transforming the enemy into an adversary. Then, the aim is to reconstruct part of Schmitt’s argument in his search for an identification criterion for demonstrating the autonomy of the political.","PeriodicalId":175674,"journal":{"name":"Cadernos de Ética e Filosofia Política","volume":"30 52","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141836282","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Neste artigo, procuraremos demonstrar que a obra maior do filósofo francês , Le Travail de l'œuvre, Machiavel (1972), para além de uma crítica à tirania e ao domínio oligárquico, constitui sobretudo uma longa demonstração do modo como a democracia acaba por encontrar seu mais potente inimigo na imagem idealizada de si mesma. Seguindo os passos do Maquiavel de Lefort, veremos emergir ao primeiro plano a personagem do conspirador, que trará à cena consigo a proposição da inevitabilidade da impostura do poder e a defesa da imprescindibilidade e da legitimidade do ato ilegal empreendido contra a legalidade ilegítima.","PeriodicalId":175674,"journal":{"name":"Cadernos de Ética e Filosofia Política","volume":"13 17","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141836449","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
