The proposed antenna consists of a rectangular radiation patch with a narrow vertical slot and an L-shaped slot, a ground plane and a microstrip feed-line. Two PIN diodes are attached in the middle of the L-shape slot. They are used to control the current flow on the radiation patch. Therefore, the bandwidth reconfigurability is enabled by switching the operating states of PIN diodes. The impedance bandwidth ranges from 22% to 78%. Periodicity of the proposed unit cell smaller than 0.5λ in both directions is studied here. Non-resonant behavior of unit cells leads to solve the problem of inherently narrow bandwidth of such antenna. Main aim of unit cell design is focused to get phasing elements fitted in subwavelength grid size as well as to get full range of 360 degree reflection phase angle. The proposed array is fabricated on a low loss PTFE substrate of thickness 0.053 λ at 5 GHz and illuminated by an offset feed horn antenna. Multiple resonances of the combination offer wide bandwidth over the complete X - band. A U-shaped microstrip feed is also incorporated in the proposed structure. The proposed design offers large impedance bandwidth (measured) about 45 % (S11 < −10 dB) and a peak gain of about 4.5 dBi. The FPC is implemented as double-layered subwavelength FSS acting as partially reflecting surface (PRS). The matching element in form of a dielectric pyramid is presented. The reflection coefficient of fabricated prototype is below −10 dB within the operating frequency band. The gain of the prototype exceeds 18.7 dBi within a range of 12–12.7 GHz. The frequency band at −3 dB from maximum gain level is 9%. Cold parameters and beam wave interactions are studied using HFSS and CST Particle in Cell simulations, respectively. Peak power of 10W is achieved for an input power of 100mW for a 60mm long circuit at 95 GHz. The radiating part of the monopulse antenna consists of hybrid feeding technique to achieve better side lobe level and high gain. The bandwidth of 8.6% has been achieved for VSWR < 2 from 8.96 GHz to 9.76 GHz. The maximum gain of 25.1 dB has been achieved with approximately 1 dB variations over the entire bandwidth. The sum radiation pattern shows a side lobe level of better than 17.5 dB in both azimuth as well as elevation planes. The difference radiation pattern shows a null depth of better than 28 dB. After developing an exact mathematical approach for analysing a rectangular waveguide loaded with layered media, the complex propagation constants for a WR-22 waveguide loaded with an Indium Antimonide (InSb) slab at 77 K are calculated. It is found that the structure exhibits strong nonreciprocity for a range of frequencies when the InSb is biased with a specific D.C. magnetic flux. This behaviour is then utilised to design an isolator working at 48 GHz by magnetically biasing the InSb with a D.C. magnetic flux of 0.6 T. Next, the performance of this isolator is verified via simulation and measurements, and both resulted in more than 21 dB isolation at the frequency of operation. Unlike classical ferrite nonreciprocal devices, the operation of the gyroelectric devices can be extended up to the THz frequency ranges. This potential is demonstrated here by proposing another isolator to work at 143 GHz by loading a 4 mm long WR-06 waveguide with InSb slab at 77 K, and biasing it with a magnetic flux of 0.15 T. An accurate bondpad model with an embedded substrate model is presented which captures the effects of substrate resistivity variation. Simulated and measured results show as much as a 50% variation in effective bondpad capacitance with varying substrate resistivity.
