Therefore, “faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance” has an important theoretical basis and practical foundation as an academic translation standard and can be a reliable yardstick for measuring the quality of academic translation. This article first traces the historical origins and key interpretations of “faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance”, and then from this perspective, discusses the issues of mistranslation, omission, and addition in the Chinese version entitled Yu Lun of Walter Lippmann’s classic work Public Opinion, and provides sample translations for reference. The aim is to distinguish truth from falsehood and promote the genuine exchange and healthy development of Chinese and Western academic thought.","PeriodicalId":166253,"journal":{"name":"Asia-Pacific Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121724681","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

What science fiction and myth have in common is the reflection on the current order and the imagination of the unknown world (the dream about the unknown). James Gunn’s “Transcendent”, science fiction series is a contemporary re-writing of Campbell’s heroic model, as well as a re-creation of the pilgrimage narrative model in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, with Jung’s immutable archetype lurking behind it. This paper attempts to explore the prototype and mechanism created by James Gunn through the analysis of the hero mode and pilgrimage journey in this series of science fiction. The driving force behind the pilgrimage mode and hero mode is the process of subverting people’s spirit of having no support and longing for direction based on the development of science and technology and trying to find the right answer. It is a manifestation of the human panic at the loss of direction and the growing sense of impending doom.","PeriodicalId":166253,"journal":{"name":"Asia-Pacific Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115350575","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the differences in social and cultural aspects between countries and nations, English and Chinese differ in their expressions and vocabulary choices, and the differences are mainly seen in the fact that English uses more euphemisms than Chinese, but Chinese is not devoid of euphemistic ways of presentation. With English and Chinese both having a large number of euphemisms, they have some similarities and differences, and current research on euphemisms tends to focus on the comparative study of different languages or dialects. The purpose of this paper is to compare the euphemisms of “death” in the two English translation versions of Border Town, YANG Xianyi’s translation (translated by an author who speaks English as a second language) and Jeffrey’s translation (translated by a native English speaker), to view the characteristics of the two translators through the lens of the “death” translation, and thus provide some insights for translators in how to do good translations.","PeriodicalId":166253,"journal":{"name":"Asia-Pacific Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129129660","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The international and domestic environment of my country’s grain market has emerged with new features and faced new challenges. The instability and uncertainties of the food security system have increased significantly. This paper focuses on food security issues under the great changes in the domestic and foreign environment in the new era. Starting from the analysis of the food security concept with Chinese characteristics, it is proposed that my country,s food security governance needs to achieve four basic goals of “supply security,” “access security,” “consumption security” and “regulatory security”. Based on the four security objectives, review and sort out the history and current situation of my country’s food security governance, analyze the main internal and external challenges affecting China’s food security governance , and study and judge the internal and external factors affecting my country,s food security governance and the focus of food security governance. Finally, around the four basic goals of food security governance, combined with the internal and external challenges faced by food security governance, five ways to optimize the road of food security governance in my country are proposed: First , improve the supply efficiency with the help of agricultural science and technology, and basically guarantee the food supply safety; the second is to build a high-level grain circulation and reserve system to firmly maintain the safety of food access; the third is to improve the market transaction and information service system, and actively improve the safety of food consumption; the fourth is to optimize the government’s grain control and monitoring system to firmly guarantee the security of grain control; the fifth is to explore a new cooperation mechanism for international grain trade to enhance the security of international grain trade.","PeriodicalId":166253,"journal":{"name":"Asia-Pacific Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123660518","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
