Leaders who are strategic leaders formulate the goals and strategies for the organization. They do this by developing structures and processes that impact the present and future performance of the organization. They are experienced, senior leaders that are knowledgeable and have the ability to create a vision and execute plans and make significant decisions in the dynamic environment. This study sought to examine the influence of strategic leadership style on academic performance of National Schools in Kenya. The study recommended that the national schools should emphasize the role of strategy leadership styles with view of improving on the academic performance of their schools. However strategy leadership styles variables alone cannot influence the academic performance of their schools as strategy leadership styles were found not to have a significant influence on the academic performance with a P value of 0.307. This was largely attributed to the fact that the national schools have a set policies and procedures in which leaders are required to adopt hence little variances in terms of leadership styles in various schools and leadership styles for an individual is hence not a key determinant of academic performance in national schools. School should however focus on leadership traits, resource availability and strategy execution plan besides variables of leadership styles.","PeriodicalId":165213,"journal":{"name":"IOSR Journal of Business and Management","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127445389","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To achieve this objective, questionnaire was used to collect data from 106 each of front office staff and customers of selected hotels in Benin City, Nigeria. Multiple regression analysis method was used for the analysis of the data collected. Result shows that service quality has indirect effect on the relationship between employee’s empowerment and customer satisfaction in hotel industry in Benin City. This implies that employee’s empowerment did not ordinarily translate to customer satisfaction in Hotel industry without offering of quality service. It was concluded that empowered front line staff triggers quality service delivery, and quality service offered to customers ensure their satisfaction. Furthermore, it was suggested that emphasis on the right service culture, and organisational structure that promote meaning, competence, self-determination, and impact should be encouraged among the front office staff in Hotel industry. This will ensure that quality service that could translate to customer satisfaction is delivered. Limitations in this study include that only the front office staff in hotel industry was focused, thus, did not consider other contact staff in other departments. Hotels in Benin City was investigated in the current study, the sample population could be extended to hotels in other local government areas and major towns in Edo State, hence, provides better information and results.","PeriodicalId":165213,"journal":{"name":"IOSR Journal of Business and Management","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114102906","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The role of education is to ensure that while academic staffs do teach, what is taught should also be intelligible to students emanating from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and that they rapidly become familiar with the expected standards. It is more often than not the case that students underachieve because of the fact that they have not grasped an awareness of the level of assessment or what it is that the lecturer expects from them. Lecturers should thus apply themselves to utilizing innovative methods so that the students’ learning process is as free-flowing as possible and that the methodology they adopt is conducive to learning. Innovative teaching and learning methodologies such as Short Lecture, Simulation, Role-Playing, Portfolio Development and Problem-Based Learning (PBL) are very useful in addressing the rapid technological advances and developing workplaces that will be required in the foreseeable future. This article which is important in the broader transformation debate in higher education focuses on skills that can strengthen language acquisition and content knowledge for students. PBL inter alia, is promoted as an innovative teaching and learning methodology that is highly relevant and meaningful and worth utilizing.","PeriodicalId":165213,"journal":{"name":"IOSR Journal of Business and Management","volume":"126 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123032539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Compared to the UK’s 6% and Ghana’s 12%, Kenya’s financial exclusion of 23% is far adrift and a springboard towards establishing barriers to acceptable inclusion standards. This gap informed this study, which was intended to examine the strategic approaches adopted by the Kenyan commercial banks in promoting financial inclusion of women entrepreneurs. This paper however concentrates on mobile banking as one of the strategic approach used by the banks. Towards meeting this objective, the study adopted a descriptive survey research design, taking the heads of the relevant target strategic units in the 11 NSE listed commercial banks as the study population. The study used primary data obtained from the banks through administration of semi-structured questionnaire. Obtained data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. The study found that the strategic approaches banks adopted giving way to application of alternative banking channels to women entrepreneurs had significant effects on financial inclusion, where previously unbanked women entrepreneurs got a chance to own formal accounts. The findings indicate that under mobile banking there were significant products which were strategically designed to attract women entrepreneurs. However, banks were still cautious in offering customers products which would compromise the institutions’ return capability. This informed the rationale behind small mobile-credit volumes offered on partnership between the banking institution and phone service providers. On the basis of the study’s findings, the study recommended that commercial banks should enter into long-lasting and beneficial strategic partnerships with a wide range of service providers towards ensuring that women entrepreneurs have equally wider service alternatives. In addition, it is recommended that banking institutions should seek further innovations in enhancing their system infrastructures and adoption of cheaper internet alternatives.","PeriodicalId":165213,"journal":{"name":"IOSR Journal of Business and Management","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127703036","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
