The justification of the possibility of developing projects, taking into account the need to solve real problems in the regions, is given. To that end it is planned to broaden traditional teaching practices by introducing a project-based learning (PBL). Since mechanisms for its implementation are new for some domestic institutions of higher education, numerous of the current attempts to introduce the PBL have failed. Along with the common mistakes, strengths and weaknesses, successful practices of its introduction and use at a university are described in the paper.
