This study was qualitatively conducted that taken 3 English teachers of MAN Peanornor. The data were collected by using an interview and observing the whole process of teaching reading analytical exposition text. The findings of this study showed that there were 51 times of using translation found during three processes that they were conveying and checking meaning of words or sentences, explaining grammar and classroom management. It was also found that the use of translation was used in the scientific approach activity that experimenting and associating activity were the dominant used rather than observing, questioning and communicating activity in teaching. The reasons of using translation in teaching reading analytical exposition text were facilitating communication, teacher-student relationship and the L2 learning. The findings of this study revealed that translation contributed to the study of foreign language teaching especially teaching reading skill. The aimed of this study were (a) to find out the types of teacher’s initiations used in English classroom interaction based on Sinclair and Coulthard Model, (b) to find out the dominant type of teacher’s initiation used in English classroom Interaction based on Sinclair and Coulthard Model, and (c) to find out the reason why the teacher used the dominant type of initiation during the teaching and learning process. This research used qualitative research. To answer the problems of the study, the data were collected in three ways by observing, recording and interviewing. The data were analyzed based on Sinclair and Coulthard theory (1975). The result of this study were the following, (a) There were nine types of teacher’s initiations found during the teaching and learning process, namely, teacher elicit, teacher inform, teacher direct, listing, re-initiation (i), re- initiation (ii), check, repeat, and boundary. (b) the dominant type of teacher’s initiation used in English classroom interaction was teacher elicit, which was 40%. The objectives of this study were to find out the category of verbal interaction between the teacher and the students in the classroom, and the dominant category of verbal interaction in the classroom between teacher and students. Data of the research was taken from 28 students of eight grades which took an English class involved one English teacher who taught in the class. The data in this research collected by using interview and videotaping. The result of the study showed that both the teachers and the students were aware and understood that interaction was important in English learning. They also understood that to be able to interact well, they needed to practice. But, the understanding was not supported by what they did in classroom. The teacher did not give much interactive activity in class. It seemed that the teachers did not believe in the students' competence. The students were not active in practicing their English by asking questions or expressing their idea or opinion, and the most dominant interaction between teacher and students were direct teacher interaction. The nature of this study is Research and Development (R & D). The steps were conducting the needs analysis, writing the course grid, storyboarding, writing the first draft, obtaining the experts’ judgments, revising the first draft, and finally writing the final draft. This study involved 32 students of the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 8 Medan as the research subjects. The instruments for collecting the data were questionnaires (needs analysis questionnaire and expert judgment questionnaires). The results of the needs analysis questionnaire were analyzed using percentage and the expert judgment were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Data got from the result of need analysis was being the basis in developing the product. The website was divided into five pages: Home, Start Up, Your Focus, Your Activity, and Grammar Corner. Then, based on the expert judgment, the website are appropriate for the grade eight students of junior high school. Due to the result of this research was in the form of a product, this research was categorized as Research and Development (R & D) which adapted Borg and Gall (2003) theory with some modifications. The subjects of this research were the eleventh grade students of Maritime Department of SMK Pelayaran Samudera Indonesia. In conducting this research, the procedures were gathering the data and information, conducting the need analysis, designing the first draft of materials, validating by the expert, revising the materials, and producing the final product. The instruments of collecting the data were the combination of two strategies; interview and questionnaires. The interview was analyzed as qualitative data and the questionnaires were analyzed as quantitative data. These data were the needs of students which covered target needs and learning needs. This research only focused on developing two genres of English reading materials based on KTSP that were taught in the second semester which were procedure and analytical exposition. The interview and observation results prove that the teaching strategy is not implemented well and need to be improved. The average scores are the first from English lecturer and the second from English teacher. This was a Research and Development (R&D) study. The subjects of the study were the students of eighth grade of SMP RK Serdang Murni Lubuk Pakam. The research procedures, were adapted from Jolly and Bolitho’s model in Tomlinson (1998) with some modifications, consisting of conducting the need analysis, writing the course grid, developing the first draft, getting expert judgment and evaluating the first draft, also revising the first draft of the materials.The instruments to collect the data were need analysis questionnaire and expert judgment questionnaire. The data from the need analysis were analyzed quantitatively using frequency and precentage, then the results were used to develop the course grid. The data from the expert judgment were analyzed quantitatively through descriptive statistics while the suggestions were used to revise the first draft of the materials. The product of this study is a set of writing materials of recount text entitled “Guide for Writing” for students of eighth grade of SMP RK Serdang Murni Lubuk Pakam. The writing material is “My Unforgettable Experience”. It consists of Pre-writing, Drafting, Responding, and Editing tasks ranging 15 tasks. Based on the research findings from the expert judgment, the whole aspects of the developed materials were 3.76 which was in the range of 3.25 < x ≤ 4 and can be categorized as “very good”. Moreover, this study used descriptive qualitative design .The data of this study were utterances between English teacher and students during English classroom in XI-2 IPA of SMA Negeri 11 Medan.The instruments for data collection were observation tally sheet and video recording. The result showed all of the categories used in the teaching and learning process. It found from the percentage of all categories , the dominant category used by the teacher was Giving Direction (40.41% ). In the other hand the dominant category used by students was Student Talk-Response (57.60%). The research was conducted by Research and Development (R & D) design through four phases; Evaluation and Need Analysis, Material Development, Material Validation and Revision and Final Product. It was conducted at SMK Negeri 1 Sidikalang. The date were gathered by administering interview to English teacher and distributing questionnaire to 10 students to get the student’s needs. The result of questionnaire showed that the relevance of existing Speaking material with Accounting major just 35 % (less relevant) and 90 % of the students need the relevance English speaking material with their major and related to work situation. The interview and questionnaire results prove that the students need English Speaking materials which contain the appropriate knowledge or topic with the syllabus, student’s level and major. The material developed into 3 units based on the basic competence on syllabus; Congratulating and Complimenting, Expressing Intention, and Giving Announcement. The product of English speaking material validated by two experts, lecturer and English teacher. The result of experts’ judgment is 89.5 and it belongs to good category. The result of this study showed that the students’ existing material were not relevant to electrical engineering program. The vocabulary that students’ get from the existing materials was less. The designing material was validated by English teacher and English lecturer. The product of this study is a set of reading material entitled “electricity holic” for students in SMK Negeri 2 Medan. The reading materials consist of three genres; descriptive, narrative and recount.
