Gender understanding is not only important for adults but also for children. Children are expected to learn about it from an early age. In connection with it, movies based on children literature can be fun and easy tools for gender learning. One of the children's stories that have been made in a movie is Aladdin. As a fantasy story, Aladdin movie can provide entertainment. On the other hand, through the movie, the children, especially the girls, are expected to learn about gender equity. According to this descriptive qualitative research, resistance could occur when the dominated is put in an unequal position. Those kinds of resistance are resistance to female domestication, to restrictions on participating in public affairs, to arranged marriage, and to education limitation.","PeriodicalId":135818,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2nd International Seminar on Translation Studies, Applied Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies, STRUKTURAL 2020, 30 December 2020, Semarang, Indonesia","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130206216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This SFL and semiotic study scrutinizes the linguistic signs and meanings built in the interactive comments responding to a suspected transgenderism issue of post genital reconstruction surgery of an Indonesian celebrity that has been viral on YouTube. Specifically, this study limits the focus of its analysis on material and relational processes. 144 comments in Indonesian towards a YouTube video of more than 2 million views were analyzed for their transitivity of material and relational processes by employing the tables of analysis adapted from Halliday’s experiential meaning framework. Then the analyzed constituents of transitivity were further interpreted based on the categorization of linguistic signs built by responders. Findings of this study reveal that responders in cyber media employed similar and different functional strategies in building signs and meanings towards the taboo and sensitive transgender issue in the Indonesian context, as shown by the evidences of scrutiny on the linguistic features.","PeriodicalId":135818,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2nd International Seminar on Translation Studies, Applied Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies, STRUKTURAL 2020, 30 December 2020, Semarang, Indonesia","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123801270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

News teaching materials in textbooks do not have news comprehension and readability is low and contains information on old events. Based on these findings the author is interested in studying them. The objectives to be achieved include three things. One knows the typography and graphic text of the mass media news used in textbooks as learning material? Two know the description of the strengths and weaknesses of the message content in the news text that is used as a learning medium? What do three knowing the description of the feasibility of using news texts in textbooks in learning? The method of data analysis uses descriptive qualitative methods. Besides being incomplete, there are 6 graphic texts or supporting images to support the text. For the readability of the text data 3 and 5 according to the data, what is needed by students, but approaching the invalid area. The data 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9 readabilities does not correspond to the level of use. The eligibility criteria for data texts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 do not have the element of news novelty.","PeriodicalId":135818,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2nd International Seminar on Translation Studies, Applied Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies, STRUKTURAL 2020, 30 December 2020, Semarang, Indonesia","volume":"120 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124167384","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It shows beyond doubt that Oreo can adapt around the world. The TV commercials created in different language versions have helped this product to expand internationally. Remarkable as well as marketable skills are required to translate the advertisements. For that reason, this study set out to examine the translation strategies, particularly concerning the song translation and how it can blend in harmony with the video. Oreo TV commercials entitled “Play with Oreo” was analyzed with its Indonesian version entitled “ Nikmati Oreo Sesukamu ” to fulfill the research objective. The findings show that the translator modified some original lyrics in an attempt to maintain the advertisement singable. Moreover, as a technology that comes from western countries, Wattpad also contains western cultures in it, one of them is the LGBT movement. Usually, for some eastern countries, this culture is taboo, especially in Indonesia. However, on this platform appears the different interactions emerge about LGBT. Indonesian Wattpad users read and produce these taboo stories. There is also a virtual conversation among users about this content that can be accessed publicly through the comment’s column. This research attempts to describe the cyberculture of Indonesian users on Wattpad by using virtual ethnography methods. The findings of this study are descriptions of taboo cultural phenomena on Wattpad's platform through four levels of Cybermedia Analysis those are Media Space, Media Archive, Media Object, and Experiential Stories.","PeriodicalId":135818,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2nd International Seminar on Translation Studies, Applied Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies, STRUKTURAL 2020, 30 December 2020, Semarang, Indonesia","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116746710","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
