The switch functions in such a converter ensure that the switches do not short-circuit the voltage sources, and do not open-circuit the current sources, thus yielding continuous currents at output terminals. Also if the number of input-phases are equal or less than the number of output-phases, then continuous current is available at input terminals. The advantage of this approach is that it can be developed for any kind of matrix converter. It is illustrated that, even under unbalanced and highly distorted input voltage waveforms, the output waveforms are reasonably clean and balanced. Here, the topology of a DC to single-phase AC power converter and single-phase to three-phase AC/AC power converter are presented.","PeriodicalId":124749,"journal":{"name":"ISIE 2001. 2001 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics Proceedings (Cat. The task of carrying an object is supposed to be given only to the group of robots, for the purpose of putting the main interest on how to design online task decomposition mechanisms which should be autonomous and adaptive. The robot group dealt by this paper is comprised of same autonomous robots connected by a load. Reinforcement learning (RL) is adopted for a basic framework of the robot's decision-making mechanism, so that quick online learning can be expected. However, since RL in a simple form is not effective in developing a stable cooperative behavior in a multi-agent environment, a novel decision-making mechanism is designed using two RL units, in which the first RL unit is for predicting its partners' next states, and the other is for generating an action of its own. Several empirical experiments for three connected robots are conducted on a computer in order to investigate the effectiveness of the proposed mechanisms.","PeriodicalId":124749,"journal":{"name":"ISIE 2001. 2001 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics Proceedings (Cat. We propose an AEA, which uses a genetic algorithm (GA) and an evolution strategy (ES) in an adaptive manner to take merits of the two different evolutionary algorithms. We use AEA to tune fuzzy membership functions and scaling constants. The system apply rules first, and then applies statistical information when the ambiguities have not been resolved. It is well known that rectifier circuits such as these can generate various harmonics within the power system. Because of this, several different power factor correction circuits have been proposed and studied. These methods are designed to improve the input current to a sinusoidal waveform by using switching devices, and they therefore degrade the cost performance. From this point of view, it is also appropriate to discuss harmonic reduction methods that do not use switching devices. This paper proposes a novel three-phase rectifier circuit for power factor correction that operates without switching devices, and whose input current waveform is almost sinusoidal. Since it does not make use of any switching devices, this solution avoids any losses and noise due to switching. In addition, since it is also unnecessary to employ a complicated driving circuit, it is favorable in terms of cost performance. The effectiveness of this circuit is confirmed by simulation and experiment.","PeriodicalId":124749,"journal":{"name":"ISIE 2001. 2001 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics Proceedings (Cat. These systems make use of new technologies, for example, linear motors, air cushion or magnetic levitation. From these trends, a new transportation system using ITS (intelligent transportation systems) technologies is being developed by Toyota. This system is developed not only under the basis of bus technology but new technologies, for example, radio control, automatic steering and noncontacting crossing are applied for realizing automatic platoon running between several vehicles (maximum 6 vehicles). This paper describes the trend of new urban transportation systems in Japan and safety evaluation method on these systems. After this, as the example of these evaluations, the automatic operation bus system developing by Toyota is chosen. This system is described and some safety evaluation results checked by this \"safety evaluation committee on this system\" are referred.
