There were included 200 managers, 100 managers from Macedonia and 100 managers from Serbia. The analyses is aimed at determination differences of orientations toward cultural dimensions collectivism-individualism and power distance, paternalism, and affective, instrumental, contractual and obligatory supervisor-subordinate relationship between male and female Macedonian and Serbian managers. The results suggest significant differences in orientation toward power distance and collectivism-individualism, contractual and obligatory supervisor-subordinate relationship among managers from Serbia and Macedonia. Macedonian managers score higher on collectivistic orientation, and contractual supervisor-subordinate relationship than Serbian managers. But Serbian managers score higher on orientation toward power distance and obligatory supervisor-subordinate relationship. The study showed that there are no differences according to gender and there is no interaction effect of culture and gender on orientations toward collectivism-individualism and power distance, paternalism and supervisor-subordinate relationship. The results of the study lend support for the notion that the culture influences on organizational practices. With increasing knowledge about the differences of attitudes of managers with different cultural background, increases the possibility of developing open and productive relations in the business world.","PeriodicalId":91505,"journal":{"name":"International journal of applied psychology","volume":"1 1","pages":"104-109"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82252239","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because information about the Portuguese criminal system is scarce, the design and definit ion of the studies was adapted fro m literature and our experience derived fro m the contact with the field. We exp lain how this methodology arose, particularly how it was designed and formulated through contact with the field and with the actors - the judges - in the decision making process that we were studying. The study utilized a 2 X 2 factorial experimental design. Participants were 348 Banking and Finance graduate students randomly selected and assigned to four treatment groups. Escalation of Co mmit ment was in two forms : Intent to Escalate Co mmit ment (IEC), measured with a standardized scale and Escalat ion of Co mmit ment Behaviour (ECB), measured by the amount of money a decision maker is willing to invest in a business scenario. Results of 2 X 2 (ANOVA), revealed that decision responsibility (DR) and decision consequence (DC) had significant main effects on ECB. The interaction effects of both variables showed that ECB was highest under low decision responsibility and positive decision consequence condition. Only decision responsibility had significant main effect on IEC. IEC positively influenced ECB. Importance of decision responsibility has imp lication for escalation of co mmit ment. It is therefore reco mmended that management should be tactical in engaging individuals with decision responsibility in decision making involving in itial loss.","PeriodicalId":91505,"journal":{"name":"International journal of applied psychology","volume":"84 1","pages":"119-125"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83877143","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using psychoanalytic psychotherapy with the couples, we have tried to achieve symptom remission in the children. The purpose of this study is to reflect on the maintenance, over time, o f the psychological changes obtained in this kind of clinical pract ice, wh ich encompasses both couples and families. Based on clinical-qualitative methodology and case study, two cases have been examined, with emphasis on the follow-up sessions for two couples who were undergoing psychoanalytic couple's therapy for thirty-six and thirty months, respectively, with t wo additional fo ll ow -up sessions after the therapy was finished. The collection of clinical material to be analy zed according to the psychoanalytic references was made using excerpts fro m the session written notes taken by the therapist herself immed iately after the sessions were over. This research addresses the daily activities of three to six year old children not in preschool in Machakos District, Kenya. The participants comprised 287 children and 287 of their parents/ guardians. The study found that both boys and girls of three to six years of age undertook same activities in their homesteads. However, there were society's stereotyped activities for children of different gender and age. Additionally, the results indicated that playing, which featured as the main children's daily activity, was rated as un- important by parents/ guardians. Other activities were babysitting, cooking/housework, cultivating, grazing and fetching water and firewood. These activities, which seemingly contribute towards the society's welfare, compromised the education of three to six year old children not in preschools. The results of the study are crucial for setting a plan on how these children can be facilitated to grow and develop to the full. The paper recommends having a parental/ guardian programme geared towards ensuring children's rights to education play and protection.","PeriodicalId":91505,"journal":{"name":"International journal of applied psychology","volume":"47 1","pages":"1-5"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78403392","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its scope was limited to the specific kind of dishonest behavior which is commonly present among students: the phenomenon of academic dishonesty, manifested in cheating (colloquially: cribbing) on tests, exams, etc. The author predicted that an agreement between each participant and the experimenter would induce participants to remain honest. The research was conducted in the form of a laboratory experiment. The results indicated that the presence of the experimenter's confederate was significant. Participants cheated more often when the other person cheated than they did when writing the test individually. However, it turned out that the agreement had no influence on the participants' behavior. Another research problem concerned the influence of person- ality determinants on dishonesty. The effect of self-esteem and attitude towards disloyalty on disloyal behavior was inves- tigated. The main results showed that the participants who cheated had lower self-esteem in comparison with those who did not cheat. As regards attitude towards disloyalty, it was found that loyalty had a low value for the participants who cheated, while non-cheaters valued it highly.","PeriodicalId":91505,"journal":{"name":"International journal of applied psychology","volume":"1 1","pages":"14-19"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77164272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It might naturally be felt that we already know a great deal about psychopathology, and thus that such a paper would be primarily a review and discussion of the literature; I will argue, however, that the most fundamental form of the question concerning the nature of psychopa- thology is rarely posed in the literature, that it is prevented from being posed by presuppositions inherent in standard theo- retical approaches, and that, on those rare occasions when it does get addressed, it has received inadequate answers. Therefore, the paper will have more of the character of a conceptual explication and theoretical exegesis than it will of a review of the literature.","PeriodicalId":91505,"journal":{"name":"International journal of applied psychology","volume":"44 1","pages":"1-13"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86554917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
