The microbial sensitivity against ciprofloxacin before intervention was 46.6%, which significantly increased after intervention (51.8%). Treatment with nitrofurantoin resulted in a total clinical cure rate of 80.6%, of which rate of clinical cure achieved in expected time was 66.1% and delayed was 14.5%. The rate of total clinical cure with nitrofurantoin corresponded closely with the proportion of urinary isolates sensitive to nitrofurantoin. i.e., 86.3%. This preliminary study revealed that revival might be an effective strategy to increase the sensitivity and to delay the emergence of resistance.","PeriodicalId":8719,"journal":{"name":"Bangladesh Journal of Pharmacology","volume":"45 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.6,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69467046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The methanolic extract was assessed for its in vivo anti-diabetic effects. The results indicated the presence of alkaloid, protein and amino acids, carbohydrates, glycosides, flavonoids, and saponins along with the highest brine shrimp lethality (90.7 ± 1.8%), α-amylase inhibition (60.2%) and free radical scavenging properties. The diabetic control indicated a significant (p<0.05) decrease in weight and high-density lipoprotein and elevated level of blood glucose, bilirubin, creatinine, urea, triglyceride, low density lipoprotein, very low-density lipoprotein, transaminases, and alkaline phosphatase. All these changes were restored significantly (p<0.05) by treatment of diabetic rats with methanolic extract of I. aucheri. The results show the potential of I. aucheri as a source of therapeutic compounds against diabetic, hyperlipidemia and free radical associated disorders.","PeriodicalId":8719,"journal":{"name":"Bangladesh Journal of Pharmacology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.6,"publicationDate":"2020-10-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3329/BJP.V15I4.44170","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47887233","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Toxicity studies were conducted on human red blood cells and DNA. Initially, acute hepatoprotective study was done on Wistar rats by giving crude, aqueous, n-hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and n-butanol fractions 200 mg/kg/day for 24 hours. Liver function tests were performed. The ethyl acetate fraction was selected for 14 days study. Hepatotoxicity induced by paracetamol (350 mg/kg) orally. All the liver function tests, liver peroxidation tests i.e malondialdehyde, glutathione and histopathological study of the liver was performed at the end of study. In hepatoprotective studies, ethyl acetate fraction showed a significant decrease in the level of serum enzymes (97.6 IU/L), (101 IU/L), (145.17 IU/L) and (0.68 mg/dL). Peroxidation levels in liver homogenates of ethyl acetate-treated group decreased in malondialdehyde (42.5) while reduced glutathione level increased (106.5 nmol/g). This study shows that M. orontium has hepatoprotective and antioxidant effects.","PeriodicalId":8719,"journal":{"name":"Bangladesh Journal of Pharmacology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.6,"publicationDate":"2020-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3329/bjp.v15i3.45334","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47144755","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In cerebral ischemia, the cerebral blood flow become insufficient in order to pursue cerebral meta-bolic activities (Ahmed at al., 2018). Both, the inflammation and oxidative stress have a promising role in cerebral infarction associated with ischemic reperfusion insult. The reperfusion insult results in an initiation of a number of events including stress oxida-tive, devastation of blood brain barrier, leukocytes intrusion, inflammation, apoptosis and nitric oxide discharge, etc. In this context, potential antioxidant and anti-inflammatory intermediaries might play their role to lessen the effects produced as a result of ischemic reperfusion insult. Due to lack of active treatment of ischemic reperfusion associated cerebral ischemia, researchers interest in developing some effective therapy from medicinal plants is obvious (Kalogeris et al., 2012). In order to get to know about the mechanism of cell demise and neuroprotection, a classical rat’s model is widely used. In this model, the forebrain slices of the animal are bare to oxygen and glucose deficiency and reperfusion (Ca´rdenas et al., 2000). The advantages of this model are time tested as cell composition is preserved.","PeriodicalId":8719,"journal":{"name":"Bangladesh Journal of Pharmacology","volume":"15 1","pages":"39-40"},"PeriodicalIF":1.6,"publicationDate":"2020-03-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3329/bjp.v15i1.43150","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42288865","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the larvicidal activity, dichloromethane and ethyl acetate fractions of both stem bark and leaf showed significant results, while the ethyl acetate fraction showed mild activity (IC50: 70.09 ± 0.09 μg/mL; 71.25 ± 0.01 μg/mL). In the insecticidal activity of the stem bark, n-hexane fraction showed mild activity (20-40% mortality) against all three subjects, while the insecticidal activity of leaf, methanolic extract and n-hexane fractions showed moderate activity (60% mortality) against Rhyzopertha dominica and Callosobruchus analis. In the anthelmintic activity of stem bark and leaf, ethyl acetate fraction exhibited activity in a dose-dependent manner giving time of paralysis and death shorter followed by dichloromethane fraction with 200 mg/mL concentration. Hence, it is clear that S. diversifolia stem bark and leaf possess larvicidal, leishmanicidal, insecticidal and anthelmintic agents.","PeriodicalId":8719,"journal":{"name":"Bangladesh Journal of Pharmacology","volume":"15 1","pages":"32-38"},"PeriodicalIF":1.6,"publicationDate":"2020-03-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3329/bjp.v15i1.43235","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44467980","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
