C57BL/6J mice after unilateral ureteral obstruction were administrated with different doses of shenkang injection for two weeks. Losartan-administrated mice and Sham-operation mice were as positive and negative controls, respectively. Renal function and vasculature changes were observed, and expressions of VEGF and VEGFR2 were detected. Shenkang injection reduced serum levels of urea nitrogen, creatinine and cystatin C. Shenkang injection alleviated the loss of microvessels, decreased the deposition of collagen fibers, and increased expressions of VEGF and VEGFR2 in the obstructed kidney. These findings indicate that shenkang injection alleviates renal dysfunction and fibrotic changes in mice with renal fibrosis by regulating renal angiogenesis. \u0000Video Clip of Methodology: \u0000Renal Vasculature by Angiography: 6 min 41 sec:  Full Screen   Alternate","PeriodicalId":8719,"journal":{"name":"Bangladesh Journal of Pharmacology","volume":"15 1","pages":"24-31"},"PeriodicalIF":1.6,"publicationDate":"2020-03-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3329/bjp.v15i1.42052","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49444861","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Lectin was isolated from the ripen pulp of bananas (Musa paradisiaca). The study showed that lectin exhibited hemagglutination activity towards human erythrocytes A, B, AB and O group. The molecular weight of BanLec using SDS gel-electrophoresis was found to be 14,000-30,000 Da. Cytotoxicity of BanLec on the Vero cell lines showed an inhibitory concentration of 172.7 µg/mL. BanLec was virucidal and showed no cytotoxicity at the concentration tested. The lectin showed a dose-dependent antiviral activities, inhibiting HSV-1 by 16.0 µg/mL with selectivity index 10.8 and HSV-2 inhibition by 67.7 µg/mL with selectivity index 2.6. These results corroborate that BanLec could be a rich source of potential antiviral compound for HSV-1 when compared to HSV-2.","PeriodicalId":8719,"journal":{"name":"Bangladesh Journal of Pharmacology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.6,"publicationDate":"2020-03-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3329/bjp.v15i1.42320","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49572920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The skin swab and scrapping samples were collected. Tetracycline, clotrimazole and their combination were given as ointment for 3 months. Clotrimazole and tetracycline were found to inhibit the growth of Aspergillus spp. and Enterobacter spp. in vitro. A pH-dependent inhibition of the growth of microorganisms in presence of these antimicrobials was observed, which was highest at pH 8. The percentage reduction of keratotic nodular size was 32.9, 66.1, 61.1 and 32.5 in the groups treated with placebo, tetracycline, clotrimazole and the combination of both, respectively. But none of the interventions was proved statistically significant. No remarkable adverse effect was reported. In conclusion, clotrimazole or tetracycline inhibits the growth of Aspergillus spp. or Enterobacter spp. in vitro. However, there was no statistically significant clinical improvement of the palmar arsenical keratosis.","PeriodicalId":8719,"journal":{"name":"Bangladesh Journal of Pharmacology","volume":"15 1","pages":"1-10"},"PeriodicalIF":1.6,"publicationDate":"2020-03-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3329/bjp.v15i1.45249","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41695407","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ethanol extract (200 and 400 mg/kg) or alkylamides (25 and 50 mg/kg) was administered orally 45 min before the injection of pilocarpine-induced (400 mg/kg) seizures. The possible anticonvulsant mechanism was investigated by testing the effect of atropine (2 mL/kg) and scopolamine (1 mg/kg). The scoring of seizure severity, seizures time latency, duration of total seizures and percentage of mortality protection were recorded. Ethanol extract and alkylamides prolonged the time of onset seizure and decreased the duration of seizures compared to control group (p<0.001). The seizure protection was 100%. The co-administered of ethanol extract of A. pyrethrum and alkylamides with atropine completely abolished the pilocarpine-induced seizures. \u0000Video Clip of Methodology: \u0000Anticonvulsant effect: 6 min 7 sec:  Full Screen   Alternate","PeriodicalId":8719,"journal":{"name":"Bangladesh Journal of Pharmacology","volume":"14 1","pages":"188-195"},"PeriodicalIF":1.6,"publicationDate":"2019-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3329/bjp.v14i4.40537","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45294739","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An integrated approach was used with the assessment of changes in the respirometric and antiapoptotic functions of mitochondria. It was found that the application of the objects under study contributed to a decrease in the intensity of glycolysis and the restoration of aerobic glucose metabolism with an increase in ATP synthesis, as well as a decrease in the dissociation of reactions in mitochondrial complexes I, II, IV and V. In addition, the introduction of the studied drugs reduced the intensity of caspase-dependent and caspase-independent apoptosis reactions, which, together with the restoration of mitochondrial respiratory function, contributed to the decrease in the size of the necrosis zone of the brain. \u0000Video Clip of Methodology: \u0000Rat middle cerebral artery occlusion:   8 min 7 sec   Full Screen   Alternate","PeriodicalId":8719,"journal":{"name":"Bangladesh Journal of Pharmacology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":1.6,"publicationDate":"2019-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.3329/bjp.v14i3.40977","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44439074","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
