(1911-1999) was one of the most prominent theologians to the last century. His dissertation was never published during his life-time. As part of a dissertation project J. Mettepenningen has published a text-critical edition, since Schoonenberg had to rewrite his 1948 conclusions; in 1951 he presented a new text. This final text is published separately. The publication of this first major work by Schoonenberg on the method of theology can serve well as the starting point for a reconstruction of Schoonenbergs chemin de Ia theologie, the development of his views on the task of theology. As the end of such a reconstruction the methodological reflections of his fmal publication are used. It appears that the decisions Schoonenberg takes in his dissertation decisions that were partly responsible for the nonpublicationcan rightly be seen as the foundation for his later theology.","PeriodicalId":80655,"journal":{"name":"Bijdragen tijdschrift voor filosofie en theologie","volume":"40 1","pages":"455 - 457"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.2143/BIJ.73.4.2959717","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67914333","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Does the longing for truth necessarily eliminate all possible forms of meaning, and, vice versa, does the human capacity to create meaning require that we suppress or even abandon the claim to truth altogether? The main goal of this paper is to examine the relation between truth and meaning by staging a confrontation between two authors who are both deeply engaged in this issue, and who initially appear to be opponents: Friedrich Nietzsche, the herald of nihilism who claimed that all previous foundations of morality have been undermined, and Charles Taylor, the advocate of 'strong evaluation' and the inevitability of meaningfulness. Despite several differences, Nietzsche and Taylor are in fact less opposed than one might think: both recognize that post-modem human beings find themselves in a field of moral tension, and that their most urgent task is to learn how to cope with the felt 'cross pressures', the permanent tensions between competing values. In this regard, it is worth noting that Nietzsche is presented as an opponent as well as an ally throughout Taylor's works. Already in the 17h century, Descartes and his contemporaries wanted to understand the (historical) significance of their innovations in the domains of science and philosophy. They contrasted their philosophical positions with medieval thought and evaluated the modem innovations as the starting point of a radically new way of thinking. In this respect, modernity and enlightenment were initially interpreted very positively. Nevertheless, the critical and negative evaluations do not seem to be much younger than these original optimistic interpretations. Up to today, these questions of interpretation and evaluation of modem thought have played a central role in philosophy and in other related domains. The contemporary modernity debate wants to uncover the modem roots of our contemporary society; it wants to situate our specific ways of thinking and it tries to understand the accomplishments and failures of modernity. A key figure within this contemporary modernity debate is the German philosopher Hans Blumenberg. One aspect of this is the emergence of a new religiosity, called by Anton van Harskamp \"new-religious longing\", 1 which moves largely outside traditional churches. In theology one speaks in this context of the de-institutionalization of religion. This new religiosity exists not just as an individual longing. It also is borne of social ties (e.g., networks) and may lead to new, often shorter-term forms of faith community. Thus in the new religiosity too one can speak of organization on a social level. Perhaps we may even speak of new forms of religious institutionalization.2 Thus the central question in this article is: In what ways do new forms of religious institutionalization develop outside the institutonalized churches? A second, related question is how we can evaluate those forms theologically. These questions cannot easily be taken up in current practical-theological research into new religiosity. It is often examined one-sidedly, \"from inside to outside\".3 Then one looks \"from the church toward society\", with a more-or-less explicit intention to arrive at theories about the revitalization of the existing church.4 In this article, I try to get beyond thinking in terms of church revitalization, because that approach ultimately focuses too one-sidedly","PeriodicalId":80655,"journal":{"name":"Bijdragen tijdschrift voor filosofie en theologie","volume":"73 1","pages":"304 - 324"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.2143/BIJ.73.3.2184719","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67913357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

AN ALMOST NEGLECTED ASPECT OF KANT'S THEOLOGY 康德神学中几乎被忽视的一个方面

Indeed, Kant himself is definitely responsible for this negative reception; for, in his Critique of Pure Reason (CPR), 1 he spent many pages for critically arguing against the possibility of knowing anything about such a supreme highest metaphysical representation of God as an ens realissimum. Especially in the third chapter of the Transcendental Dialectic (Dialectic), titled \"The Ideal of Pure Reason\" (Ideal), he extensively elaborated the invalidity of all possible proofs for the existence of God. Kant's refutations of all those fallacious proofs are based on his famous principle: existence is not a real predicate (CPR A598/B626). According to this principle, existence does not belong as a reality to the omnitudo realitatis which is synthetically grounded on the ideal of pure reason. In fact, the basis of the validity of this principle has already been found in the Transcendental Analytic (Analytic), especially, in its second part titled the \"Analytic of Principles\". Here, where topologically preceding and hence conditioning the Dialectic, Kant has elaborated a transcendental and critical argument concerning the real use of the category of existence. Because of the fact that the category of existence figures as one of three categories of modality, it merely expresses as other two categories of modality do the mode in which the object is related to the subject (CPR A219/B266). In its real use, the category of existence can have its objective validity only if it accords with the appropriate principle of understanding which rules this real use, i.e., one of the three postulates of empirical thought (CPR A218/B265-6). On this basis, in the","PeriodicalId":80655,"journal":{"name":"Bijdragen tijdschrift voor filosofie en theologie","volume":"73 1","pages":"28 - 54"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.2143/BIJ.73.1.2160750","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67912094","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The late classical Neo-Platonist Simplicius ascribes the expression to Plato, who asks the astronomers which hypotheses do justice to the celestial phenomena (Heiberg, 1894, 492-493). Parmenides ofElea, a precursor of Socrates and Plato, is traditionally taken to be the father of westem metaphysics, which aims at what is 'al-ways', necessarily and invariably true. In the philosophical and scientific mode of thought as inaugurated by Parmenides, the concept of a flexible, relative and relational -human truth seems to be in principle excluded. \"I don't imagine\", Socrates argues unanimously, \"there's time for the person who truly has his mind fixed on what is to glance down at the affairs of men, or compete with them, and be filled with envy and ill-will. This paper will try to debunk this ‘technology is a threat to religion’ framework and show from a so-called interactionist perspective how technology and religion are intertwined. The religious character of technology and the technological character of religion will be illustrated by focusing on two important dimensions that can be safely recognized as indispensable or at least important in virtually every religion and religious experience: transcendence and inner life. Reflection on these notions will evidence that both technology and religion can be considered as part of the practice of living a good life.","PeriodicalId":80655,"journal":{"name":"Bijdragen tijdschrift voor filosofie en theologie","volume":"73 1","pages":"258 - 280"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.2143/BIJ.73.3.2184717","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67913755","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
