The material used in comparative studies were TISSEEL, a human adhesive based on fibrinogen, HISTOACRYL-blue, a cyanoacrylate, and KL-3, a type of urethane adhesive. All the materials used in these studies were shown to be principally suitable as tissue adhesives. TISSEEL, the biological adhesive, was obviously superior to all the other adhesives whereas the two synthetic adhesives HISTOACRYL-blue and KL-3 were found to be roughly equal in their properties. The animal model described in the present paper is recommended for use as a standard technique for testing the suitability of new tissue adhesives.</p>","PeriodicalId":77647,"journal":{"name":"Zeitschrift fur experimentelle Chirurgie, Transplantation, und kunstliche Organe : Organ der Sektion Experimentelle Chirurgie der Gesellschaft fur Chirurgie der DDR","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13919671","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The behaviour of the implant was tested by macroscopic, microscopic, and mechanical examination until the 60th week after the operation. Microscopic investigations showed a predominance of absorption to the 12th week later the ingrowing of collagenous fibres. Mechanical investigations demonstrated a considerable reduction of the tensile strength until the 12th week and a slight increase afterwards. An advanced protrusion of the abdominal wall formed in reach of the implant after the 30th week. The implant transformed itself to a scarlike connective-tissue membrane of poor quality in the end. A spontaneous diabetic animal line and a diabetes-resistant line originated from a parental lineage by genetic selection with regard to the glucose tolerance on condition of feeding of a saccharose-rich and copper-poor diet. In each case 1000 islets of the diabetes-resistant line were transplanted in 28 animals of the diabetic line. The devascularized rectum was not removed but left in situ. Terminal colostomy was established. Laparotomic revision was carried out after 12 weeks, colostomy was removed and continuity of the intestine was reestablished by insertion anastomosis, by suture of the end of the colon to the anal mucosa and skin. In further two pigs, devascularization of the rectosigmoideum was carried out with colostomy and reconstruction was carried out after 12 weeks by procto-sigmoideo-anastomosis. In another 2 animals, devascularization was carried out on the lower part of the sigmoideum and continuity was immediately renewed by end-to-side sigmoideo-sigmo-ideoanastomosis. All revisions indicated that the devascularized necrotic segment shrank to form a minute fibrous tissue residue, anastomosis was patent and continence was retained for colo-proctoanastomosis. The described techniques are technically simple and could be employed as palliative surgical methods for inoperable tumours in the region of the rectum and lower part of the sigmoideum.</p>","PeriodicalId":77647,"journal":{"name":"Zeitschrift fur experimentelle Chirurgie, Transplantation, und kunstliche Organe : Organ der Sektion Experimentelle Chirurgie der Gesellschaft fur Chirurgie der DDR","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13621315","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
