Nineteen of the twenty-eight variables analyzed were found to have statistically significant prognostic value, with over half having a strong influence on prognosis. The first seven, ranked in order of their effects on survival, are metastasis in lymph nodes, depth of invasion, histologic grading, lymphocyte infiltration of the cancer, GH (immune response in regional lymph nodes), growth pattern and fibrous proliferation around the cancer. The joint effects of combinations of these major variables are even more striking than those of single ones.
","PeriodicalId":77596,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and the Peking Union Medical College = Chung-kuo i hsueh k'o hsueh yuan, Chung-kuo hsieh ho i k'o ta hsueh hsueh pao","volume":"4 1","pages":"38-42"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13852313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two opiate ligands, 10b and 10cd, prepared by Liu et al, were employed consecutively in affinity chromatography, from which OPR's were eluted with Nx. The eluate was subsequently passed through a WGA affinity column and the OPR's eluted with N-GluNAc. This eluate was further purified and concentrated by preparative granular gel isoelectric focusing on SG200. Two protein peaks appeared separately at pH 5 and 7.8. The eluates from both peaks were examined for protein contents using the silver staining method, and binding activity was measured by RRA with 3H-etor. The results revealed that both samples contained active OPR purified to over 80,000 fold. The Mr was estimated by gel filtration to be 52 kD and 42 kD for OPR in the pH 5 and pH 7.8 samples respectively. OPR in the pH 5 sample have been determined to be of mu-type by their binding activity with 3H-ohm.
","PeriodicalId":77596,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and the Peking Union Medical College = Chung-kuo i hsueh k'o hsueh yuan, Chung-kuo hsieh ho i k'o ta hsueh hsueh pao","volume":"4 1","pages":"1-7"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13684261","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The positive rate of PMN-Ab in SLE (9.8 +/- 6.5) was also significantly higher than that in normal (0.17 +/- 0.2%, P less than 0.001). Comparisons were made of survival, fertilizing capacity and ultrastructures of sperms which had been exposed to different concentrations and treatment durations of the agents. The results showed that no prominent change could be observed when treated with lower doses. However, at higher concentrations of rhodamine 123, mitochondria were found to be swollen, vacuolated and deranged instead of surrounding the flagellar axoneme in the normal spiral way, and the mitochondrial cristae were broken or had disappeared. In some sperms, cracks at the flagellar axoneme and concave defects in the acrosome were seen. The sperms lost their fertilizing capacity, though some of them were still alive, whereas the sperms treated with GTW showed no morphological damage and maintained their ability to penetrate the hamster egg. Our results suggest that rhodamine 123 is a prospect in the search for an anti-sperm contraceptive.
","PeriodicalId":77596,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and the Peking Union Medical College = Chung-kuo i hsueh k'o hsueh yuan, Chung-kuo hsieh ho i k'o ta hsueh hsueh pao","volume":"4 2","pages":"80-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13937490","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Healthy controls of both sexes, different ages, education levels and cognitive capacity did not show apparent differences in the latency of P300 (P greater than 0.05, respectively). The patient group, however, revealed a significant (P less than 0.001) prolongation of latency of P300 (means = 409.6 +/- 50 ms) as compared with 28 well matched healthy subjects (means = 337.7 +/- 24 ms). Although there was a slightly lower amplitude of P300 in the patient group, the difference between control and patient groups was not significant (P greater than 0.05). There was a significant difference in the Cognitive Capacity Screening Examination findings between control and patient groups (P less than 0.01), but it seems that evaluation of the cognition-related latency of P300 may be more objective and sensitive in distinguishing between organic and cognitive distress (P less than 0.001).
","PeriodicalId":77596,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and the Peking Union Medical College = Chung-kuo i hsueh k'o hsueh yuan, Chung-kuo hsieh ho i k'o ta hsueh hsueh pao","volume":"4 4","pages":"205-9"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13773986","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The monolayer of one subline, TC-1-C-3, directly supported the growth of nonadherent marrow cells in Dexter culture system for eight weeks. We report here the mechanism of the stromal cell effect on hemopoiesis in a long-term bone marrow culture system. When the hemopoietic blasts attach to the TC-1-C-3 cells, they are surrounded by the stromal cell cytoplasm within two hours and develop into cell clusters in a week. The developing hemopoietic cells show cell differentiation towards the granulocytic lineage. A key function of the epithelioid stromal cell, then, is to provide a 'niche' or 'envelope' for stem cells which supports long-term hemopoiesis in the Dexter culture system.
","PeriodicalId":77596,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and the Peking Union Medical College = Chung-kuo i hsueh k'o hsueh yuan, Chung-kuo hsieh ho i k'o ta hsueh hsueh pao","volume":"4 1","pages":"8-12"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1989-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"13850002","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
