The lidocaine (LD) is a local anesthetic. The aim of this study was to evaluate the synergistic activity of LD/MZ against 19 strains of C. albicans isolated from vaginal secretion. 78.9% of the strains were susceptible to the combination LD/MZ, demonstrating synergism of drugs. These drugs can be used to produce vaginal creams to treat VVC, especially drug resistant.","PeriodicalId":7185,"journal":{"name":"Acta Scientiarum. One of the most used anesthetics in surgical centers is propofol however; the safety during pregnancy has not been completely established. The objective of this study was to investigate the possible toxic and teratogenic effects on the intrauterine and post-natal development of mice exposed to the dose of 15 mg kg -1 propofol on the caudal vein fifth, tenth and fifteenth day of gestation. A significant reduction in weight gain was observed in female mice who received a 15 mg kg -1 dose of propofol on the fifth gestational day. A higher rate of embryonic loss post implantation and resorption was also observed in this group. In regards to physical development, the anesthetic increased significantly the offspring weight gain, the time in which pinna detachment occurred, and the anogenital distance of pups whose females received propofol on the fifteenth day of gestation. Based on these results, we concluded that administration of propofol in the beginning stages of gestation increases the number of abortions and promotes alterations in the physical development of pups whose mothers were anesthetized in the final stages of gestation.","PeriodicalId":7185,"journal":{"name":"Acta Scientiarum. Thirty five-week-old male Wistar rats were selected and randomly divided in two groups. One group received a composite resin type of oclusal plane that induced mandibular protrusion, and the other was the control group, without treatment. Animals were euthanized after experimental time intervals of 7, 21 and 30 days. For histological analysis, thickness of the proliferative, serial and hypertrophic layers was measured, as well as each layer separately. The highest difference in cartilage thickness was observed at day 21, showing a significant increase of the proliferative layer. There were also other histomorphological changes related to occlusal plane interference. Condylar forward repositioning induced by composite occlusal planes influenced the endochondral ossification, increasing the proliferative layer.","PeriodicalId":7185,"journal":{"name":"Acta Scientiarum. As a tool, the application of questionnaires to the professionals of the nursing service was used. The questionnaire contained questions and each of them, during the correction, was assigned a specific score. The participant could according to the evaluation system get a grade of 0 to 100 points. Among the participants, 66.7% stated that they had already received some guidance on medication administration via the tube, and after correction and assignment of the notes, the averages obtained were: 47.3 points by the nurses; 38.7 points by nursing technicians; 34.5 points for resident nurses; and 37.0 points by the nursing assistants. The findings of the study indicate that there is a difference between the usual practice and the recommended practice in the literature and the professionals knowledge about administration of medication VNGT is still limited. The insertion of the pharmacist in the multidisciplinary team and disseminating knowledge on incompatibilities, interactions and reactions are of great importance for the improvement of this scenario.","PeriodicalId":7185,"journal":{"name":"Acta Scientiarum. This is a non-randomized experimental study, in which we performed histological analysis of placental tissue to observe changes that occur in each kind of placenta as well as immunohistochemical analysis to investigate the expression of bradykinin. We used ‘Paleontological Statistics software package for education and data analysis’ 3.06 and R for the statistical analysis. The Ethics Committee of the University of Rio Grande do Norte State approved this experiment under protocol number 166370, according to the determinations established by Resolutions 466/12 and 441/11.We found differences between the two kinds of placenta concerning the diameter of the vessels and the rate of cytotrophoblastic invasion. Student’s t-test evidenced significant difference (p = 7.6395 x 10 -5 ) indicating greater marking of BK per section in the healthy placenta group. The result of more significant expression of bradykinin in healthy placenta can be used as a starting point for deeper researches aiming to better characterize and quantify this expression.","PeriodicalId":7185,"journal":{"name":"Acta Scientiarum. Thirty men were separated into three groups: Control without CSCI (CON, 25.3 ± 4.1 yrs, strength training: 3 days week -1 ; aerobic training 1day week -1 ; n = 10), high volume exercise (30.5 ± 4.3 yrs, 3 day week -1 rugby specific exercises, 60min. day -1 ; n = 12) and moderate volume of exercise (33.7 ± 5.9 yrs, 2 days week -1 specific rugby exercises, 60 min. day -1 ; n = 8) with incomplete CSCI (C5-C7 cervical vertrebae) more than 12 months. Electrocardiogram was recorded in rest, during and after effort test. QT interval was significantly reduced (p = 0.001) in the high volume exercise group compared to control. Corrected QT interval showed no difference between moderate vs. high volume exercise group (p > 0.05). No changes were observed in QT, corrected QT, PR and QRS intervals of electrocardiogram between rest and post effort (p > 0.05). Thus, effort test does not change electrocardiogram parameters in CSCI subjects. High volume of week exercise promotes abnormalities in cardiac repolarization compared to a moderate training program.","PeriodicalId":7185,"journal":{"name":"Acta Scientiarum. This study aimed to analyze nurse training in educational actions developed in Primary Care with people living with Diabetes mellitus . A qualitative research was conducted with 28 nurses of Primary Care, in Teresina, state of Piaui, Brazil. Data were collected from April to June 2015 through interviews and analyzed by the collective subject discourse technique. The construction of the results was based on four sequential questions made in the interviews, from which emerged 15 central ideas: lectures, group orientation, nursing consultation and home care; theoretical knowledge, practical knowledge, technical knowledge and expertise knowledge; few materials and infrastructure in the basic unit, lack of professional teamwork, reduced workload and little awareness of teachers; and promotion of care and and self-care, family support and prevention of complications. In the analysis of the discourses, it was possible to conclude about the need for Permanent Health Education in Primary Care.","PeriodicalId":7185,"journal":{"name":"Acta Scientiarum. A cross-sectional study analyzed by descriptive statistics and parametric tests. It was found that out of 129 patients, 48.8 % had catheter-related infection in hemodialysis, 65 % were male, 33.3 % were 60 years old and over, and 88 % of patients were admitted to intensive care unit. The prevalence of infection in this group was high, and the vast majority of diagnoses of infection were empirical. Given this, it is suggested to establish the routine culture of the catheter tip in all cases of suspected catheter infection to improve the quality of patient care, and the relentless pursuit of the causes that trigger the infection process in line with good practice from across the healthcare team.","PeriodicalId":7185,"journal":{"name":"Acta Scientiarum. The sample comprised 39 individuals (18 females and 21 males), all in mixed dentition, aged from 8.4 to 10 years with satisfactory occlusion and balanced profile and with no history of orthodontic or facial orthopedic treatment. The sample was divided into three groups (mesofacial, brachyfacial and dolichofacial) according to the facial types proposed by Ricketts (1989). The average craniofacial configurations of each study group were obtained by orthogonal superimposition of Procrustes, thereby eliminating size differences and allowing only shape differences between groups to be analyzed by viewing the TPS deformation grid. Significant differences were found among the three facial types but were more remarkable between mesofacials and dolichofacials than between mesofacials and brachyfacials. TPS morphometric analysis proved efficient for accurate visualization of transverse and vertical differences among facial types even before pubertal growth spurt. These differences cannot be easily detected by traditional posteroanterior cephalometry.","PeriodicalId":7185,"journal":{"name":"Acta Scientiarum.
