Multimodality or the combination of various modes has been applied to stimulate foreign language learning. The present paper aims to verify the effectiveness of multimodal input in language learning. It demonstrates the experiment conducted in two freshman classes in a university. The two classes used the same textbook supported by audio CD containing the recorded material. The experiment class, however, additionally has some visuals in listening classes to strengthen the linguistic input. The research lasted for one semester and findings from the study show that multimodal input has significantly improved the listening and speaking abilities of the students and also has positive impacts on the learners’ attitudes towards language study. the help","PeriodicalId":59125,"journal":{"name":"中美英语教学:英文版","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42191556","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study shows that there are similar types of abbreviation formation (direct omission of the original word, extraction and combination, and number abbreviation) in the two languages, while in addition to the English alphabet abbreviations, there are “Pinyin” acronyms in Chinese and Roman alphabet abbreviations in Japanese. The public recitation of the poem “Howl” marks the beginning of the Beats’ rebellion against McCarthyism. As a successful poetry-movie, the film Howl bridged the gap between vision and hearing through a series of diversified presentation forms, such as documentary reenactments, archival photos, and the reconstruction of court trial scenes, thus breaking the boundary between poetry and film. As a kind of displaying the authorship of Ginsberg, the close-up pictures of typewriters repeatedly appear in the film to vividly interpret the Beat writers’ style of spontaneous composition. most you heard he was was the carriage slamming back again and again. People create or find word to name and describe new things which they never saw, examining the role of the speaker’s native language in loanword adaptation. This study aimed to investigate how the English loanwords into Taif Arabic (TA) are phonologically adapted. The study adopted a qualitative and descriptive approach. The study collected 190 English loanwords from national TA speakers of various ages, genders, and educational levels. These loanwords were transcribed using IPA symbols. Online Cambridge Dictionary is used to compare the pronunciation of the loanwords in DL and RL. The outcomes of this paper discovered that substitution was the most common adaptive process and deletion was the rarest. It can be concluded that the determinant of the adaptation process is the phonological rules of the speaker’s native language. The results of this study are of great benefit to learners of Arabic English. (UMHA), a Saudi dialect. She investigated the extent of change, the source of loanwords, and the impact of the speaker’s age, gender, and level of education on the use of loanwords. Using a questionnaire, she collected data from 80 participants with age, gender, and literacy differences. Investigations have shown that most loanwords were borrowed from Turkish, followed by Persian and Italian. She attributed the reason for the Turkish words influence to the language contact resulting from the 400 years ruling of Saudi Arabia by the Ottoman Empire and the interaction with pilgrims who visit Mecca every year. The results also showed that there is a variation in the frequency of the use of loanwords in terms of the three variables: age, gender, and literacy. For example, old participants used loanwords more than young ones, males used loanwords more than females, and uneducated participants used loanwords more than the educated ones. Another study was conducted by Omar (2018) who explored the relationship between sex and the use of English loanwords in SA as realized in the frequency and morphological adaptations of these loanwords. As for frequency, the results of the study revealed that female speakers use English loanwords more frequently than male speakers for showing more prestige than the other gender. The results also showed that both genders share many morphological adaptations of loanwords with some differences.","PeriodicalId":59125,"journal":{"name":"中美英语教学:英文版","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46855043","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several strategies are adopted to form the complaint, combing the speech act of request and insult. The most frequent used speech act set is complaint plus request. The study also finds that the complainer tends to address the complainee in an indirectly way, which is consistent with the face-to-face interaction.","PeriodicalId":59125,"journal":{"name":"中美英语教学:英文版","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42404609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
