The SCI in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats was induced by weight-drop contusion model. Results of the suggested that LIN showed improvement in the locomotor function of SCI rats in a BBB scoring analysis. It was found in agreement with histopathological analysis of spinal cord tissue where LIN improves the neuronal architecture of spinal cord tissues, and protect neurons from degeneration. It also reduces oxidative stress via modulating endogenous antioxidants (MDA, SOD, and GSH) and inhibits the generation of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6). In western blot analysis, LIN showed dose-dependent reduction of expression of toll-like receptor (TLR-4) and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-ĸB). Our study demonstrated that administration of Linalool alleviated spinal cord injury via anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities in spinal cord tissues possibly due to inhibition of TLR4/NF-κB activation.","PeriodicalId":55342,"journal":{"name":"Boletin Latinoamericano y del Caribe de Plantas Medicinales y Aromaticas","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85701087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This disease is usually treated empirically due to its prevalence in precarious areas without basic sanitation. The use of medicinal plants in less industrialized societies has been one of the main therapeutic resources available. Considering the need touse these natural resources to combat leptospirosis in areas of socioeconomic vulnerability, this study aimed to review the literature on the useof plants with medicinal potential in thetreatment of leptospirosis. The results showed that even though leptospirosis is a common disease in communities lacking basic sanitation and economic development, the number of studies on the use of plants with medicinal potential is scarce. Most of these studies comefrom India, and all plants investigated between 2012 and 2020 had antileptospiral action.","PeriodicalId":55342,"journal":{"name":"Boletin Latinoamericano y del Caribe de Plantas Medicinales y Aromaticas","volume":"2006 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90504308","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cervical cancer is one of the most common among women and must be treated quickly to prevent cell proliferation. Natural products have been used for cancer treatment due to their antiproliferative and apoptosis induction properties. In the present study, we aimed to determine the antiproliferative and apoptosis induction activities of methanol extract of Inula graveolens(IGME) in the human cerival cancer cell line (HeLa). Antiproliferative activity of IGME was evaluated by using MTT (3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5-diphenyl-tetrazolium bromide) method. Apoptosis induction activity was determined by AnnexinV/propodium iodide staining withFACS. ROS induction was determined by DCFH-DA (2′,7′-Dichlorofluorescin diacetate) staining. Interleukin 6 and 8 levels (IL-6 and IL-8) were determined by the Elisa method. IGME exhibited antiproliferative effect and induced apoptosis in the HeLa cells. IL-6, IL-8 and intracellular ROS levels were decreased after treatment of IGME. Consequently, IGME was found to have antiproliferative and apoptosis induction activities as an indicator of the anticancer activity.","PeriodicalId":55342,"journal":{"name":"Boletin Latinoamericano y del Caribe de Plantas Medicinales y Aromaticas","volume":"139 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87543745","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This can provide a range of compounds with multiple uses. However, those plants have been poorly explored and there is very little information about their natural compounds, some healing properties attributed to several communities have been scientifically supported. Articles were consulted in databases (Google Scholar, PubMed, Scielo, Science Direct, Scopus) considering the biological activity reported until June 2021. Parasitic plants present mainly antibacterial activity, some species antifungal moderate activity, and to a lesser extent were found reports of antiprotozoal activity. The composition of parasitic plants should continue to be investigated, which could be an alternative to combat various microorganisms that cause diseases, even resistant to traditional medicines.","PeriodicalId":55342,"journal":{"name":"Boletin Latinoamericano y del Caribe de Plantas Medicinales y Aromaticas","volume":"31 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91231556","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
