Most commonly occurring in the head and neck region in the paediatric age group, lymphangiomas generally are benign in nature. Given the tumour's mass, the lymphangioma itself or the accompanying haemorrhage may impair ocular movement and result in compressive optic neuropathy. Furthermore, lymphangiomas have the potential to unevenly infiltrate nearby critical structures including the optic nerve. This trait poses numerous surgical difficulties and makes the therapy of ocular lymphangiomas particularly challenging, especially with the associated haemorrhage. This case report presents an acute case of orbital lymphangioma in a five-year-old child who was treated with monthly sessions of intralesional foam sclerotherapy. Complete resolution of the lesion was observed at the end of the sclerotherapy sessions.</p>","PeriodicalId":54369,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Pakistan Medical Association","volume":"75 4","pages":"638-641"},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2025-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144044632","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Importance of implementation of an effective fall prevention and balance training programme as an essential activity of daily living for elderly is still understated in national literature and policy. Conventional postural stability (PS) and mobility training programmes often face limitations in terms of provision of adequate challenge, engagement and adherence. Virtual reality (VR) technology has emerged as a promising tool in healthcare, with potential applications in PS training for the elderly. VR based PS training provides a fun and engaging environment resulting in enhanced motivation, with appropriate intensity and high frequency intervention. While individually designed VR systems are expensive; a range of commercially available full body motion platform based gaming systems such as Nintendo Wii Fit, Xbox Kinect, PlayStation eyetoy etc. serve as potential and suitable alternatives. This review article provides a synthesis of current evidence related to available systems, protocols and potential limitations of individual systems with an aim to enhance utilization of VR based PS training as fall prevention approach to improve quality of life and promote healthy aging among elderly.</p>","PeriodicalId":54369,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Pakistan Medical Association","volume":"75 4","pages":"671-674"},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2025-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144044633","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite advances in treatment, a phenomenon known as \"electrolyte inertia\"- the inertness to correcting abnormal electrolyte levels- may persist in CKD patients. This inertia can result from various factors which include delayed therapeutic intervention, the complexity of multiple coexisting comorbidities, and the judicious balanced therapeutic approach necessitated by the multidyselectrolytaemia in CKD management. No prior report of PBS is known to us from Pakistan. Most cases are diagnosed at birth, but we report the case of a nine-yearold boy who presented with the complaint of left flank pain for the past year. Upon physical examination, his abdomen was swollen with creased skin and lacked the rectus abdominis muscles. The scrotal skin had minimal wrinkling, and both the testes were undescended, along with the constriction in the external urethral meatus. This report aims to raise awareness of this syndrome for early detection and optimal treatment. It is recommended that family medicine and paediatric surgery professionals, capable of identifying and referring patients in the disease's early stages be increased, particularly in rural areas.</p>","PeriodicalId":54369,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Pakistan Medical Association","volume":"75 4","pages":"645-647"},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2025-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144049787","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
