The main objective of this study is to assess the differential protein expression of Ang-2 in the developmental phases of ovarian follicles of crossbred Malabari goats employing an immunohistochemical technique. Ang-2 protein expression was found in all developmental phases of ovarian follicles, including primordial, primary, small, and large antral ovarian follicles. Ang-2 was found in the granulosa cells, theca interna cells, follicular fluid (granulosa cells in the FF), endothelial cells of capillaries and germinal epithelium of the goat ovaries. The Quantitative Method-Percentage Positivity of Ang-2 expression revealed that it was higher in the initial stages of ovarian follicular development and decreased with later stages of follicular development in cross-bred Malabari goats. Moreover, the protein expression of Ang2 was found to be higher in granulosa cells (GC) than in theca interna (TI) cells of antral follicles as evident from the higher staining intensity in GC cells compared to TI cells. It is therefore concluded that the Ang-2 protein expression in ovarian follicular cells decreased with an increase in follicle size and development and based on the combined scores for immunostaining (staining intensity and the number of positive staining cells), the Ang-2 was found to be expressed more in the granulosa cell layer compared to the theca interna cells of the antral follicle in crossbred Malabari goats.","PeriodicalId":52568,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences","volume":"43 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70628450","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study included 40 dogs of 2-5 years of age with skin diseases presented to University Veterinary Hospitals at Mannuthy and Kokkalai under the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, and ten apparently healthy dogs brought to the hospital for routine health check-up which served as control. Serum concentrations of the three minerals were compared not only between normal and dogs with skin diseases as a whole but also between individual skin diseases- six different skin diseases- with the control group. On comparing the dogs with skin ailments (n=40) and control group, the serum mineral levels analysed through Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) revealed that the concentration of zinc was significantly lower (p<0.01) in the diseased group (0.53 ± 0.04 mg/L) of dogs (n=40) than the control group (1.11 ± 0.09 mg/L) and the serum copper concentration was also significantly reduced (p<0.05) in diseased dogs (0.91 ± 0.08 mg/L) with respect to the control animals (1.23 ± 0.11 mg/L). The serum selenium concentration of diseased group of animals(n=40), however failed to show any significant difference from the control group of animals. The outcome of the study suggests a need for supplementation of zinc and copper in dogs with skin ailments like canine demodicosis that relapse even after prolonged therapy with acaricides.","PeriodicalId":52568,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70629012","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ginger extract level for tenderization of SJQ meat was optimized by physico-chemical and sensory analyses. The SJQ meat was treated with two levels of ginger extract and used for tandoori preparation along with two controls (broiler quail meat and spent quail meat). Japanese quail tandoori was prepared as four treatments namely CYB (Control young broiler), CSA (Control spent adult), G20 (Spent adult - ginger treatment 20%) and G40 (Spent adult - ginger treatment 40%). The aqueous ginger extract was prepared from fresh ginger rhizome (Zingiber officinale Roscoe). The SJQ was marinated in ginger extract marinade, tumbled, and placed in the chiller (4±1⁰C) for 24 hours and utilized for tandoori preparation. The cooked tandoori of all the treatments were analysed for the physico-chemical and sensory parameters. With ginger extract marination, the pH of cooked tandoori was not affected and the product yield was improved. In the organoleptic evaluation, the appearance score increased in the treatment with 20% ginger extract. The flavour score was significantly (p<0.05) higher in CYB and G20. The SJQ was significantly (p<0.05) tenderized by treatment with 20% and 40% ginger extract. CYB and G20 had significantly (p<0.01) higher scores for overall acceptability scores. It is concluded that 20% ginger extract level could effectively be used to tenderize the SJQ meat for the preparation of tandoori without affecting the physico-chemical and sensory properties.","PeriodicalId":52568,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70629268","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, in humans and animals, indoxacarb exposure had been linked to substantial health problems. This study was carried out to investigate the acute oral toxicity and histopathological changes of indoxacarb in female Wistar albino rats. The acute oral toxicity of indoxacarb was performed as per the OECD guidelines No. 425, (Acute Oral Toxicity - Up-anddown procedure). The LD50 of indoxacarb was estimated using AOT425StatPgm (version: 1.0) statistical program and found to be 1098 mg/kg. Hence the pesticide is categorized as Type II class of pesticide according to the WHO standards. All the animals dosed at 2000 mg/kg died within 12 h exhibiting clinical signs of intermittent episodes of tremors, incoordination, respiratory distress and open-mouth breathing. Histopathological examination of indoxacarb treated rats at 2000mg/ kg degeneration of hepatocytes and necrosis in haematoxylin and eosin staining.","PeriodicalId":52568,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70629682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research work was carried out in adult apparently healthy female crossbred cattle maintained at the University Livestock Farm and Fodder Research and Development Scheme, Mannuthy. The expression of miRNA and bta-miR-93 was profiled in the present study by qRT-PCR assay. In silico analysis was done using various online bioinformatic tools for the prediction of target genes, gene ontology analysis and also to study the cellular pathways associated to the target genes of bta-miR-93. The expression analysis of bta-miR- 93 showed decrease in its expression in LPS treated PBMCs when compared to control cells. Besides, significant enrichment of target genes of bta-miR-93 was noticed in many immune-related GO terms and in critical immune-associated cellular pathways. The findings of the current study will help in understanding the regulatory role of bta-miR-93 in LPS-mediated immune responses in cattle.","PeriodicalId":52568,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70629745","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data were collected through a questionnaire and field-level disease diagnostic tests were conducted. Biosecurity status varied from farm to farm with 97.4 per cent promoted vaccination and 61.04 per cent disposed carcasses by burning. However, limitations were observed in the use of a footbath, quarantine of new stock, isolation of diseased birds and quality of water. The five most common diseases recorded were Chronic respiratory disease (48.1%), Acute Death Syndrome (27.3%), Colibacillosis (23.4%), Pullorum (18.2%) and Coccidiosis (18.2%). The commonly used antibiotics in poultry farms were Enrofloxacin (35.1%), Cephalexin (14.3%), Tylosin (11.7%) and Levofloxacin (10.4%). Some of the farmers (14.3%) were unaware of the antibiotics used in their farms, a potent risk factor for the emergence of antimicrobial resistance. About 19.49 per cent of farms restricted antibiotic use and 44.15 per cent of farms supported herbal traditional medicines as an alternative to antimicrobials.","PeriodicalId":52568,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70630290","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Trichomonas foetus, the causative organism was known over decades and is responsible for severe reproductive failure. Except for a few lab-based assays, to date, there are no point-of-care diagnostics developed to screen for the presence of infectious agents in cattle. In this study, we have identified cysteine protease 8 as a suitable antigenic protein for developing sero-diagnostics. A 960 bp Tf CP8 gene was cloned into methylotrophic Pichia pastoris X-33 by homologous recombination using a pPICZαA vector for recombinant protein expression. The traditional fed-batch method of induction with methanol resulted in inconsistent expression in 48h incubation, hence a novel single batch culture with 1% methanol induction for 24h was standardised and obtained optimal recovery of approximately 36 KDa recombinant protein secreted into media. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of cloning and expression of genes from Trichomonas foetus. This CP8 protein could be further optimised for developing lateral flow assays and ELISA as point-of-care tools.","PeriodicalId":52568,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70627955","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
