Signalment and anamnesis of the animals were studied to find the risk factors associated with urethral obstruction. The prevalence of urethral obstruction was found to be higher in uncastrated Persian breed of cats,which were one to two years of age. All cats had history of being fed with dry commercial diet, lowered water intake and living indoor. The stress factors identified were inter-cat conflict, fear, relocation, presence of guests and change in owner’s routine. Haematobiochemical profile of these cats revealed significant changes in haematocrit and total erythrocyte count values.Elevated blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, phosphorus and potassium were observed which significantly reduced following bladder evacuation. Urinalysis revealed haematuria, proteinuria,leukocyturia and struvituriaas frequently encountered findings in tom cats with urethral obstruction.","PeriodicalId":52568,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70628661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In preclinical studies, porcine corneas were used regularly as an animal model due to its relative similarity to human cornea and its availability in great numbers from slaughter houses. In the present study, decellularised porcine cornea was used for corneal grafting as an acellular scaffold graft material in a case presented with deep corneal ulcer. The efficiency of the graft material was analysed on the day of presentation, days 7, 14, 21 and 60 post grafting, based on corneal clarity, oedema, neovascularisation, pigmentation, visual function and scar tissue formation. Decellularised porcine corneas were found to be very convenient to handle during surgery, provided good tectonic support, had good tissue biocompatibility and produced only mild to moderate graft opacity.","PeriodicalId":52568,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70629946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, 20 lactating crossbred dairy cows each were monitored for a period of 21 days in four dairy farms. The udder skin surface temperature (USST) was recorded using infrared thermography (IRT) during the study period at diurnal time intervals. Milk samples were collected at the time of afternoon milking from each quarter and tested for California Mastitis Test (CMT). It was observed that higher USST was noticed in udders with clinical mastitis followed by non-mastitis and subclinical mastitis, and the skin surface temperature of non-mastitis and clinical mastitis udders were significantly higher than subclinical mastitis affected udders. The results of this study indicate the limitations in the use of IRT of udders for early detection of mastitis across all regions.","PeriodicalId":52568,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70630075","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Incidence of mammary tumours, especially the malignant ones are found to be rare in dogs younger than five years of age. Latest reports indicate that more than 75 per cent of canine mammary tumours (CMTs) are of malignant type. Recent research has demonstrated that in breast cancer, apart from changes in the parenchyma, major modifications also occur in the stroma or tumour microenvironment, which surrounds the neoplastic cells and these changes are now understood to be crucial factors in the onset and progression of tumour. The tumour microenvironment consists of multiple cell types such as fibroblasts, leukocytes, adipocytes, myoepithelial cells, endothelial cells and the extra cellular matrix (ECM). Numerous studies have indicated that the primary protein in the ECM, collagen, has the potential to give physical, biochemical, and biomechanical impulses to both tumour and non-tumour cells, thus regulating the growth and spread of cancer. The current study employed special staining using picrosirius red to demonstrate the stromal collagen in CMTs and utilised polarised microscopy to analyse the birefringence of collagen fibres in tumours. Picrosirius red staining for evaluation of alterations in stromal collagen fibres was identified to be highly efficient in determining the prognosis of CMTs.","PeriodicalId":52568,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136301814","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of eighteen Large White Yorkshire pigs were randomly assigned into three treatment groups having three replicates with two piglets per replicate. Encapsulation of probiotics (1x1011CFU/ml) was done by extrusion process using sodium alginate and calcium chloride. The encapsulated probiotics Pediococcus acidilactici (NCIM 5721) and Lactobacillus plantarum (NCIM 2374) were given separately mixed with fermented maize for T2 and T3 group pigs, respectively, and supplemented from 42nd day of its age and pigs in the control group (T1) received only fermented maize. The pigs in all groups were fed with pig grower and finisher ration as per ICAR (2013) recommendations. One pig from each group was selected randomly for a nutrient digestibility trial at the 213th day of its age using Titanium dioxide (TiO2) as an external marker mixed at 5 g/kg of feed and fed for six days. On day six, faecal content was collected and Titanium dioxide was estimated. The results revealed supplementation of encapsulated probiotics showed a significant (P<0.01) increase in dry matter, ether extract, crude fibre, crude protein and organic matter digestibility in encapsulated probiotic supplemented group pigs compared to the control.
