The Biceps femoris muscle from six adult crossbred female cattle were collected hygienically, portioned into a chunk size of 10×10×5 cm, and subjected to ageing for 72 hours at 4ºC. Meat samples were subjected to freezing at -18ºC for seven days and thawed under five different thawing methods, viz. ambient temperature (AT) at 31-34ºC, chiller temperature (CT) at 4ºC, microwave thawing (MT) at 2450 MHz, immersion thawing with water replacement (ITW), immersion thawing without water replacement(ITWO). Three freeze-thaw cycles were carried out. The unfrozen meat samples after ageing and meat samples after every freeze-thaw cycles were subjected to assessing myofibrillar fragmentation index (MFI), Warner-Bratzler shear force (WBSF), collagen content, collagen solubility and cooked sensory evaluation for assessing the tenderness. The results of the present study suggested that as the number of freeze-thaw cycles increased, a significant decrease (p≤0.05) was observed in the myofibrillar fragmentation index and WBSF. The collagen content and collagen solubility remained non-significant throughout the freeze-thaw cycles. The sensory scores for tenderness increased significantly (p≤0.05) with an increased freeze-thaw cycle. In conclusion, beef tenderness increased as the number of freezethaw cycles increased.","PeriodicalId":52568,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136301816","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the present study, out of 102 ocular and adnexal samples from the dogs examined for a period of 2.5 years, 11 cases (10.78 per cent) were neoplastic in nature. The major location of the neoplasms was eyelids (8/11). One case (0.98 per cent) was diagnosed as pigmented sebaceous gland epithelioma. The tumour mass was present in the palpebral conjunctiva of the lower eyelid near the medial canthus of the left eye in a five-yearold Labrador dog. Grossly, the tumour mass appeared to be a greyish-black, firm, cauliflower-like growth. The mass was resected and submitted for histopathology. Microscopic examination of the mass showed a preponderance of basaloid reserve cells in the tumour tissue. The proliferating reserve cells formed irregular islands or trabeculae separated by thin fibrous connective tissue. They showed minimal to no pleomorphism, scanty amphophilic cytoplasm and oval nuclei. Melanin-containing cells were frequent, while mature sebocytes were infrequent. Mitotic figures were occasional. Pigmented sebaceous gland epithelioma was diagnosed based on gross and histopathological features. Apart from this, neoplasms such as fibrosarcoma, meibomian gland adenocarcinoma, well differentiated squamous cell carcinoma, papilloma and non-pigmented sebaceous gland epithelioma involving eyelids, histiocytoma of third eyelid, periglobular lymphoma and leukemic infiltration of choroid were also recorded. The present research underlines the lower incidence of eyelid tumours in dogs.","PeriodicalId":52568,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences","volume":"133 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136303598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

FMT has achieved significant success in human medicine, particularly in the treatment of Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) and other gastrointestinal disorders. While FMT has been utilised in veterinary medicine for decades, its formal recognition in human medicine has influenced its adoption and advancement. In this mini review article, we provide a concise analysis of the mechanisms underlying FMT and trace the historical development of transplantation procedures in veterinary medicine. We explore the current applications of FMT in companion animals and livestock, highlighting its efficacy in managing gastrointestinal disorders. Additionally, we discuss the synergistic role of metagenomics, metabolomics, and artificial intelligence (AI) in shaping modern FMT practice, emphasizing their potential for improving FMT efficacy, personalized treatment strategies, and diagnostic approaches in veterinary medicine. By reviewing pertinent scientific literature, this comprehensive review explores the historical perspective, current state, and potential impact of FMT in the field of veterinary medicine.","PeriodicalId":52568,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136304285","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The syndrome is caused by the Porcine Circovirus 2 (PCV2) which belongs to the Circoviridae family. Because the symptoms of PCV2 infection and other porcine infectious illnesses, especially porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) overlap, diagnosis of the former based on clinical indicators could be challenging. A study was conducted to develop a TaqMan real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the detection of PCV2 genotypes prevalent in Kerala. Primers and TaqMan probes based on the ORF2 nucleotide sequences of the PCV2 prevalent in Kerala were designed. On testing, it was observed that the TaqMan real-time PCR was not able to detect the PCV2genotypes prevalent in Kerala. However, the designed primers (but not the probe) were able to detect these genotypes. Hence, another TaqMan assay specific for detection of 2d was designed as that genotype was predominant in Kerala. The detection limit estimated using the cloned template was found to be 310 copies of the viral genome. The assay was more sensitive in detecting the virus compared to conventional PCR.","PeriodicalId":52568,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136304282","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study was carried out to investigate the in vitro cytotoxicity of the aqueous extract of TC stems on Dalton’s lymphoma ascites (DLA) cell lines in comparison with a reference drug, cisplatin through 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-phenyl tetrazolium bromide assay (MTT) and Trypan blue dye exclusion methods. Phytochemical analysis of aqueous extract of TC revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, glycosides, phenols, anthraquinones, quinones, saponin, carbohydrates and proteins. The MTT assay revealed that the mean per cent inhibition of cells at the test concentrations of 5, 10, 20, 40, 80, 160, 320, 640 μg/mL ranged from 6.848 ±0.01 to 59.686 ±0.13 for TC extract and from 29.129 ±0.13 to 80.902 ±0.05 for cisplatin, respectively. The IC50values of TC and cisplatin in DLA cells were estimated to be 72.05 μg/mL and 65.44μg/mL respectively. Trypan blue dye exclusion revealed the mean per cent cell viability to be 59.40 ±0.04 and 55.17 ±0.01 for TC stem extract and cisplatin respectively. The mean percent cell viability and inhibition differed between TC extract and cisplatin at IC50 as well as at any given concentration significantly (p<0.01). The tests revealed that the cytotoxic effect of TC extract on DLA cells was moderate and to a comparable extent with cisplatin. The results pointed out that TC induced cytotoxicity in DLA cells indicative of its probable apoptotic potential and therapeutic merit in the treatment of lymphomas.","PeriodicalId":52568,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136304288","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
