Moreover, according to the core self-evaluations theory, core self-evaluations are hypothesized to explain the relationship between job and subjective well-being and to have a causal role in job satisfaction and subjective well-being. The aim of the current study was (1) to test these predictions of self-evaluations theory and (2) to investigate the relationship between job satisfaction and subjective well-being. Data from two national, representative longitudinal studies (i.e., the GESIS Panel study and the Swiss Household Panel study) were used. The participants consisted of approximately 20,000 individuals from Switzerland (Swiss Household Panel study) and 5,000 individuals from Germany (GESIS Panel study). A separate series of random intercept cross-lagged panel models revealed that job satisfaction and subjective well-being (except for happiness) were not reciprocally related across all study waves. Moreover, the relationship between job satisfaction and subjective well-being appears to reflect a trait-like property. Finally, core self-evaluations did not account for any part of the relationship between job and subjective well-being, and there was limited evidence that core self-evaluations can predict later subjective well-being. These results provide mixed support for both spillover and segmentation theories, as well as for some predictions of self-evaluations theory.

","PeriodicalId":51483,"journal":{"name":"Applied Research in Quality of Life","volume":"20 1","pages":"133 - 160"},"PeriodicalIF":2.8,"publicationDate":"2024-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144125577","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research was conducted in 252 centers for people with ID in Spain. Employees (N = 2.021) reported on service climate. Family members (N = 2.267) reported on service quality and organizational performance oriented toward improving QoL. We used an overall measure of service climate. Service quality was composed of two dimensions: functional (efficiency in the delivery of the core service) and relational (quality of the social interaction between employees and service users beyond the core service) service quality. Organizational performance oriented toward QoL was composed of four dimensions: overall QoL; self-determination; social inclusion; and defense of rights of people with ID. Results supported full mediation, with functional and relational service quality mediating the relationship between service climate and performance oriented toward improving QoL. Implications for research and organizations are also discussed.

","PeriodicalId":51483,"journal":{"name":"Applied Research in Quality of Life","volume":"20 1","pages":"111 - 131"},"PeriodicalIF":2.8,"publicationDate":"2024-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007/s11482-024-10389-8.pdf","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144125542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there has been no reliable evaluation of recent trends, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. To bridge the knowledge gap, we analyzed current trends in educational inequality in health-related quality of life and explored potential causes. According to the Zhejiang Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Program (n = 55,560) and the Recentered Influence Function decomposition method, we found that although the health-related quality of life has remained relatively stable over the past two decades, health inequality has risen. Moreover, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the already existing inequality in mental health has worsened significantly. Further analysis indicated that the group with the lowest education level might contribute to the rapid increase in mental health inequality during the epidemic due to their inability to obtain a relatively stable income. Our study highlights the necessity of social policies to curb the rise of inequality in health-related quality of life.

","PeriodicalId":51483,"journal":{"name":"Applied Research in Quality of Life","volume":"20 1","pages":"91 - 109"},"PeriodicalIF":2.8,"publicationDate":"2024-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144125663","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, few studies investigated their interaction on externalizing behaviors among Chinese adolescents from divorced families. Guided by the stress-buffering theory, this cross-sectional study investigated the interactive effects between parental divorce, parental involvement, and teacher support on adolescents’ externalizing behaviors among Chinese adolescents. Participants were the nationally representative sample of 8218 Chinese students (Mage = 14.51 years, SD = 0.68 years; including 560 students from divorced families and 7658 students from intact families). Parental involvement, teacher support, and externalizing behaviors were primarily measured by related items in a student-reported questionnaire. Results indicated that: (1) adolescents from divorced families had lower levels of parental involvement and higher levels of externalizing behaviors compared with adolescents from intact families; (2) teacher support had stronger protective effect on externalizing behaviors among adolescents from divorced families compared with adolescents from intact families; (3) the interactive effect between parental involvement and teacher support on externalizing behaviors was significant among adolescents from divorced families, but not significant for adolescents from intact families. These findings support the stress-buffering model of social support, and have important practical implications for preventing externalizing behaviors among adolescents from divorced families.

","PeriodicalId":51483,"journal":{"name":"Applied Research in Quality of Life","volume":"20 1","pages":"67 - 89"},"PeriodicalIF":2.8,"publicationDate":"2024-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144125587","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Education, as a significant determinant of leisure activities, influences individual leisure time through the development of human capital, time management skills, and gender role perceptions. Using data from the first China Time Use Survey (CTUS) of residents of China, this paper systematically investigates the differences in leisure time allocation among working groups aged 25–54 that have different education levels and empirically analyzes the differences in residents’ leisure time and their influence mechanisms using the Tobit model.The study first finds that residents’ leisure patterns are relatively homogeneous, and leisure is dominated by activities that require media. Moreover, education can significantly influence the type of leisure activities in which the population participates, with the higher education group engaging more in active leisure activities, such as using the Internet and reading books. Second, education has a significant positive effect on leisure time: the higher an individual’s level of education, the longer the leisure time. Differences in residents’ leisure time due to education level mainly comes from activities that require media. Third, where education level is the same, residents’ gender difference more significantly impact leisure time, with men having significantly more leisure time than women, and gender differences associated with leisure time become greater as an individual’s education level increases. Based on the above conclusions, this paper proposes policy recommendations from three perspectives: optimizing the diversity of leisure activities for residents, reducing the gender gap in leisure time, and balancing the allocation of leisure resources between urban and rural residents. The recommendations include increasing the number of public cultural facilities such as libraries and museums, implementing parental leave policies, and organizing traditional festivals and folk activities.

","PeriodicalId":51483,"journal":{"name":"Applied Research in Quality of Life","volume":"20 1","pages":"45 - 66"},"PeriodicalIF":2.8,"publicationDate":"2024-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144125661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study takes XX University’s social work internship course as an example, and explores effective ways to organically combine students’ professional identity, professional competence, and psychological quality enhancement through the use of service learning project. Employing a meticulously crafted quasi-experimental design, this study conducts a comprehensive comparison between two distinct internship modes: service learning and agency internships. The primary objective centers on assessing their differential impact on college students’ positive psychological qualities. The unequivocal findings unveil that engagement in service learning engenders a remarkable enhancement in the positive psychological qualities of college students upon completion of the internship period. Conversely, no discernible disparity is observed in the positive psychological qualities of college students who partook in agency internships before and after the internship. This striking discrepancy accentuates the vastly superior efficacy of service learning in augmenting the positive psychological qualities of college students when juxtaposed with agency internships. These consequential findings underscore the profound significance of various elements, encompassing the service scene, the beneficiaries of service, grassroots workers, and the students’ subjective experiences, in fostering positive psychological qualities among college students. Additionally, they illuminate the pivotal role played by educators in providing guidance and encouragement, as well as the influential impact of peers and emotional support. Collectively, these factors culminate in the resounding success of the service learning model, facilitating transformative psychological growth and development among college students.

","PeriodicalId":51483,"journal":{"name":"Applied Research in Quality of Life","volume":"20 1","pages":"19 - 44"},"PeriodicalIF":2.8,"publicationDate":"2024-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144125623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":3,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By using data collected from 284 Croatian adolescents (10 to 15 years old; mean age in 2021 = 12.23; 40.2% boys) in a 4-wave longitudinal study (2021–2023), the paper wanted to fill the gap and explore longitudinal associations among problematic smartphone use (PSU), internalizing problems (IP) and adolescents’ well-being (WB). Adolescents completed the Smartphone Addiction Scale (Kwon et al., PloS One, 8(2), e56936. 2013a) at wave 1 and 4, the Social Skills Improvement System Rating Scales (SSIS; Gresham & Elliott, Social skills improvement system: Rating scales. The results showed a small direct longitudinal association of PSU and negative affect (NA). A small indirect association of PSU with NA and life satisfaction (LS) was found via IP. Namely, higher PSU was related to more NA and lower LS, through its association with more IP. The results showed bidirectional association of PSU and IP.
