The article examines the specifics of the functioning of the suffix -ишк-: features of the expression of the word-formation meaning, semantic and word-formation motivation of the derivative, ways to intensify the evaluation of this nomination. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that for the first time the nomination \"провинциалишка\" was studied in detail, which had not previously been the subject of systematic analysis in linguistics. The central role of the nomination \"провинциалишка\" as an element of the system of \"anti-values\" in the text is determined. The analysis of the suffix -ишк- has been conducted. It helped us to identify its unique word-formation and semantic characteristics. For the first time, the pragmatic functions of the nomination \"провинциалишка\" are investigated, its role in setting the negative evaluation vector of the text is revealed. As a result, they found that using a diminutive form of a word can make the original word more negative. This new finding adds to our understanding of how we can make words more intense and expressive in language. The study has revealed the presence of hidden value meanings in the word \"провинциалишка\". This finding enriches our understanding of the valuable aspects of word formation in the Russian language.","PeriodicalId":508324,"journal":{"name":"Philology. E. Henley's poem “Invictus” from English into Russian in graphic, discursive, phonetic and linguistic forms, including semantic equivalence and poetic communication with the reader. The scientific novelty lies in the identification of the comparative specificity of the original and two translations of the above-mentioned work, performed by D. Magula and M. Shengaut. As a result of the study, it was found that in graphic, discursive and phonetic forms, the original and the translations, despite some differences, largely coincide. There are significant differences in the linguistic form at the morphological level, for example, in the usage of parts of speech. Word formation is almost identical in nature in all poems. The syntax of the translated versions is somewhat similar to that of the original text. At the lexical level, both similarities and differences were found in the vocabulary used. These words mostly correspond to the original text in terms of meaning. Generally speaking, the idea of the lyrical hero's strength is preserved in both translations. The emotional message is almost the same as in the original, which suggests that all authors have successfully communicated their poetry to the reader.","PeriodicalId":508324,"journal":{"name":"Philology. The scientific novelty of the work consists in the construction of a linguo-semiological model for describing discourse and metadiscourse in order to clarify the conceptual apparatus and more clearly structure the semantic terminology of linguistics, psychoanalysis, as well as the theory of language and communication theory. An important point of the study is the discovery of epistemological similarities and differences between the terminological apparatus and operational models of text analysis used in both disciplines, in other words, between the linguistic and psychoanalytic processing of utterances in line with the interpretative-semiological approach. The obtained data allow us to identify several crucial mechanisms of linguistic and semiotic interaction between the subjects of various scientific fields. This synergy is essential for effective communication and drives the advancement of linguistic and cultural knowledge. By activating the dynamics of linguistic and cultural data, we can create a new metadiscourse axiology in both theory and practice. This applies not only to the field of psycholinguistics but also to general linguistics.","PeriodicalId":508324,"journal":{"name":"Philology. The purpose of the study is to understand how the concept of HEALTH is structured in the language awareness of younger schoolchildren between the ages of 8 and 11. The novelty of this work lies in its linguistic approach to understanding the concept of HEALTH as perceived by younger schoolchildren. The data of the associative experiment are correlated with the results of the analysis of dictionary and encyclopedic definitions, proverbs and sayings, as well as with the data of the lexical compatibility of the word \"health\". The results showed that encyclopedic definitions remove responsibility from the individual for maintaining their own health, since this condition depends on a number of external factors, and not on the person himself. In proverbs and sayings, health is not a process or a condition, but a valuable object that exists in constant dichotomy with disease. According to the analysis of lexical compatibility, health is seen as a person with its own will, as well as a valuable asset that the owner is responsible for preserving. In the worldview of children, the notion of health has more in common with the simple and intuitive worldview captured in proverbs and everyday language than with the more precise definitions found in dictionaries.","PeriodicalId":508324,"journal":{"name":"Philology. Based on the material of articles in online dictionaries and texts from media sources, through linguo-axiological analysis, the authors identify what values and meanings are embedded in neologisms that appeared as a result of sanctions processes in the global economy, and how these words reflect the attitude of society to economic and political changes in the world. The purpose of the study is to identify and interpret value orientations in neologisms that determine public perception and reactions to sanctions in order to form a general idea of the value system of modern English–language sanctions discourse. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that the main ways of forming neologisms of the English-language sanctions discourse were identified and the connection between the internal structure of units and their connotation was revealed. As a result, it was found that in addition to the predominant number of anti-values, the axiosphere of sanctions discourse is sufficiently represented by neo-nominations reflecting the values of modern business under sanctions pressure, which indicates the active development of adaptation strategies and innovations that help business and society to comprehend and overcome the challenges that have arisen.","PeriodicalId":508324,"journal":{"name":"Philology. The novelty of the study refers to the fact that as a result of an integrated approach to the linguostylistic ways of organizing English microtexts, we were able not only to identify and systematize expressive means and stylistic devices of English microtexts from the world of modern youth fashion, but also to discover examples of discourse interference when linguistic means of colloquial, publicist, belles-lettres, scientific and official styles are combined, which leads to an enhanced pragmatic effect of English microtexts in fashion discourse. The article presents examples of paralinguistic means such as font, text layout, color, images, in connection with verbal components that perform appellative and regulatory functions. The analysis revealed that stylistic means of lexical and syntactic levels significantly predominate in English microtexts on clothing and accessories.","PeriodicalId":508324,"journal":{"name":"Philology. Gorky’s story “Childhood”","authors":"Alexander Fedorovich Tsirulev","doi":"10.30853/phil20240330","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.30853/phil20240330","url":null,"abstract":"The article explores the structure of M. Gorky's novella \"Childhood\" and how it relates to the overall meaning of the work. It focuses on how the different parts of the story are combined to create a single, meaningful whole. The purpose of the study is to provide a theoretical and practical justification for the \"dialectical principle\" of the compositional organization of the story \"Childhood\", which follows from the special author's position and the original worldview of Gorky, the artist. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that, from a \"dialectical\" point of view, the composition of M.'s \"Childhood\" Gorky has not been considered before. Special attention is paid to the use of poetic tools, techniques that help recreate the most complex picture of how the human self is formed. These tools also help to embody the dialectic of this process, which is based on the struggle between the opposing principles of \"instinctively selfish\" and \"reasonably kind\". The work consistently examines the main parts of the story, their interdependence, and determines the nature of the arrangement of action episodes in the light of the moral and intellectual evolution of the autobiographical hero. The purpose of this study is to redefine the structure of Gorky's text. We aim to understand the underlying principles that shape the overall structure of the story. As a result, it was found that the composition of \"Childhood\" has a special dialectical character. The dominant role in the architectonics of the story is played not by an externally eventful perspective, not by epic intentions, but by an installation to identify the laws of internal growth, the logic of dialectical formation of consciousness and the formation of moral principles of the autogeroy. The basis for the layout of the main episodes of Gorky's creative work is the recreation of the spiritual path of a child growing up in familiarization with folk morality and at the same time overcoming the limitations of its spontaneity and social passivity.","PeriodicalId":508324,"journal":{"name":"Philology. The scientific novelty of the undertaken research lies in the fact that for the first time the linguistic characteristics of false statements in political texts in English are described. The article describes the findings of a pilot study. The study used the Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC-22) program for computer speech analysis. The program analyzed political statements classified as \"true\" and \"false\" on the Politifact.com website. Additionally, the study explored the lexical differences between the two types of statements in prepared speeches. The study revealed that false statements tend to have fewer first-person pronouns and more third-person pronouns compared to truthful statements. Additionally, false statements often include a higher number of words expressing negative emotions and negation. Furthermore, the length of sentences containing false information tends to be longer than those with true information.","PeriodicalId":508324,"journal":{"name":"Philology.
