However, a large proportion of stroke survivors are discharged to the community with gait deficiency which impairs their functional independence, and quality of life increasing the burden of care on caregivers especially their lack of functioning in the community. This study assessed the gait functional performance in community-dwelling stroke survivors and explored its association with functional independence, quality of life, and community reintegration in community-dwelling stroke survivors. Materials and methods: This study involved 115(59 males and 56 females) community-dwelling stroke survivors. Their gait functional performance was assessed using the 10-meter walk test (10MWT) while their functional independence was assessed with the functional independence measure (FIM). Their quality of life (QoL) was assessed using the Stroke-specific QoL scale while community functioning and productivity were assessed using the community integration questionnaire (CIQ). Their scores on the assessments were compared with the normative data of their age and sex-matched healthy individuals. Data was analysed using Spearman’s correlation coefficient and Chi-Square at p<.05. Results: Participants’ ages ranged between 27 to 78 years (mean=60.48±37.84 years). More participants (56.7%) had right hemispheric lesions and 43.3% had lesions in the left hemisphere. Their gait function, functional independence performance, QoL, and community reintegration functions were significantly (p<0.05) lower than their age and sex-matched normative data. There was a significant (p<0.05) association and relationship between their gait functional performance and each of the functional independence performance, QoL, community reintegration, and productivity. Conclusion: Gait functional performance in community-dwelling stroke survivors is significantly lower than in age and sex-matched healthy individuals and it is significantly associated with low functional independence performance, low quality of life, poor community functioning, and lack of productivity in stroke survivors, Abnormal gait pattern is related to poor functional independence, poor quality of life and low productivity.","PeriodicalId":503011,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Science and Dental Health","volume":"10 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140714257","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

PRISMA standards were followed in order to identify and analyze pertinent studies that focused on patient-specific implants (PSI) for orbital abnormalities. This was accomplished by a thorough search of multiple databases. The findings demonstrate how well PSI works to improve both functional and cosmetic outcomes, such as the correction of facial asymmetries, enophthalmos, and diplopia. Surgical navigation and 3D printing are examples of cutting-edge technology that have improved orbital defect reconstruction's precision and versatility. While some research points to a trend toward better results when using PSI as opposed to more conventional methods, additional long-term data is required to properly assess its effectiveness. The analysis highlights the role that customized implants play in attaining the best possible outcomes and urges more research to improve surgical methods and assess patient outcomes over long time frames.","PeriodicalId":503011,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Science and Dental Health","volume":"7 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140715344","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Postoperative pain control improves patient recovery and oral function, with commonly used analgesics including Ibuprofen, Aceclofenac, Ketorolac, Tramadol, Paracetamol, Nalbuphine, Nimusulide, and Buprenorphine. Aim and Objective: The study compares oral and sub-lingual Piroxicam for managing post-surgical pain after extraction of impacted third molars, focusing on analgesia onset, pain intensity, swelling, and trismus degree. Materials and method: A randomized control trial was conducted on 30 patients who underwent surgical removal of mandibular impacted third molars. The patients were divided into two groups: Group I (Study) and Group II (Control). All patients underwent the procedure by a single surgeon. Post-operative medications were prescribed according to the study design, with Piroxicam 20mg administered sub-lingually (Group I) and 20mg orally (Group II). The parameters were assessed and measured for both groups, and the results and statistical analysis were compared. Result: The results revealed that the inter-group difference for the post-operative symptoms evaluated using a t-test for Equality of means by comparing the pre-op, POD 2, POD 7 values was statistically significant. Mean onset time taken and pain perception by Group I (Sub-lingual) in the first dose was 32.3 minutes and for Group II was 51.21 minutes which was established to be significantly (P<0.05) low for the sub-lingual group by statistical analysis. Conclusion: The study found that the sublingual route of administering Piroxicam had a faster onset of action and better analgesia postoperatively compared to the oral route. This is crucial for patients and surgeons to improve compliance and comfort post-operatively after impaction surgery, as potent analgesics are essential for effective pain management.","PeriodicalId":503011,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Science and Dental Health","volume":"8 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-04-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140739323","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pain is a common symptom that knows no boundary. It differs with age, creed, sex, disease and specialty. Neuropathic pain is defined as pain arising as a direct consequence of a lesion or disease affecting the somatosensory system. Its chronic debilitating nature and unpredictive response to medication make it a challenge to most physicians and the patient they treat. The use of treatment algorithms or guidelines have found common use in the treatment of neuropathic pain. This poses a need for periodic review. This review looked at the current trends in the management of neuropathic pain. We recommend a four-pronged approach in the evaluation and management of patients with neuropathic pain. This involved detailed review of the patient, the pain, the plan, and the pill. There is also a growing need to adopt less invasive techniques in the treatment of chronic recalcitrant pain.","PeriodicalId":503011,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Science and Dental Health","volume":" 19","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140386193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The start of the twentieth century was infectious disease as the leading cause for mortality worldwide. These diseases were treatable, for a time, with antibiotic development and the research coming to the fore in medical focus at this time. However, As the usage of antibiotics expanded and they were incorporated into other areas of human work, bacterium strains resistant to antibiotics started to appear. The genes that code for antibiotic resistance are not readily lost once they have developed in a bacterial population, in addition to the ongoing growth of resistance. These genes join the bacterial genome and become a stable part of it after integration. Treatment that can successfully address this multi-drug resistant condition gets more difficult to provide as new resistance mechanisms emerge. Antibiotic resistance can occur through a many of ways, such as the release of large amounts of antibiotics into the environment during waste water treatment, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and the presence of antibacterial agents in soaps and other products. Exposure to air exhaled from animal housing or discharged during animal transportation; ingesting contaminated water; and coming into contact with diseased farm workers or meat processors. These scenarios raise an important issue; that there is a great need for an enhancement of existing technology and techniques in the field of drug development, as well as the pressing requirement for development of new and innovative treatment methods for infectious diseases. A long-term material to these resistance problems that can and will be used as a foundation for further medical research in these fields has to be the goal of the research priorities. The answer to this problem may lie in the relatively discovery of antimicrobial nanomaterials, technology against which the pathogens cannot able to develop a resistance mechanism. The nanomaterials themselves would act as precisely engineered plat forms from which drugs may be delivered to target physiological sites.","PeriodicalId":503011,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Science and Dental Health","volume":"28 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140235171","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
