Achieving primary stability is a key element to the success of osseointegration, especially in cases with limited bone quantity such as the posterior maxilla. A systematic narrative review on the osseointegration and function of immediate implant-supported prostheses in sinus lift surgeries was conducted. To find the articles, we searched databases including SCOPUS, Google Scholar and PUBMED since 2019 to 2024 with using keywords such as immediate implant placement, sinus lift surgery, osseointegration. Studies published only in English which primarily included human subjects and investigated the cause of immediate implant placement surgeries combined with alveolar bone grafting were also selected as inclusion criteria. You can find the thematic structure on this study to classify and analyze. Autogenous grafts, allografts and xenografts performed very well with high successful rates reported by various studies for all types of bone substitutes ranging from 73% to almost perfect conditions (98.3%-grafts; 97.2%-implants). Surface modification of implant like sand/salt blasting and acid etching improves osseointegration with decreased bacterial adherence. Precise surgical techniques were essential to prevent complications such as sinus membrane perforation. Surprisingly, the survival rate of immediate implant placement was high or sometimes equivalent to that for delayed. Improvement in patient satisfaction was achieved by reducing the treatment time and emerging with better functional & aesthetic outcomes straightaway. An immediate implant-supported prosthesis in sinus lift surgery provides advantages of high success rates, less treatment time and more patient satisfaction. Nevertheless, the same meticulous surgical technique and an appropriate choice for graft material and implant surface are mandatory to get a predictable result.","PeriodicalId":503011,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Science and Dental Health","volume":"61 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141819216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A significant contributor to the development of CP and the resulting severe periodontal tissue destruction is dental plaque biofilm. Scaling and root planing (SRP) and antibiotics are standard treatments, although they have drawbacks and may lead to bacterial resistance. Using SRP in conjunction with photodynamic treatment (PDT) to treat cerebral palsy (CP) was evaluated in this integrative review. PDT, SRP, and CP-related search phrases were utilised in Scopus, Google Scholar, and PubMed to find papers published between 2019 and 2024. English-language research using human subjects that assessed PDT using SRP met the inclusion requirements. Research that lacked validity or significance were excluded. Probing pocket depth, clinical attachment levels, bleeding on probing, and plaque ratings were all significantly improved with PDT+SRP, according to clinical data from main investigations. Beneficial bacteria increased but periodontopathogens decreased in the microbial makeup. Although the long-term advantages of PDT+SRP were less evident, meta-analyses supported its effectiveness, especially in the short term. PDT therefore shows significant short-term benefits in microbial profiles and clinical outcomes in CP patients when used as an adjuvant to SRP. To verify long-term advantages and improve treatment regimens, further investigation is required.","PeriodicalId":503011,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Science and Dental Health","volume":"19 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141655416","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Severe acute hepatitis B is diagnosed when one of the following criteria is present: international normalized ratio (INR) >1.5, severe jaundice (total bilirubin >3 mg/dL), or encephalopathy. Severe acute hepatitis B is considered prolonged if it lasts >4 weeks. Hyperthyroidism may lead to liver cell disruption or cholestasis injury. Severe acute hepatitis B associated hyperthyroidism is a case that is very rare. We report a 37-year-old woman with severe acute hepatitis B with protracted jaundice and thyrotoxicosis. Total bilirubin levels persisted >20 mg/dL during eight weeks of treatment despite liver enzymes falling after two weeks of treatment. The patient also had a relapse of hyperthyroidism which had been on remission phase for ten years. The patient was treated with antiviral combination of tenofovir and entecavir to prevent deterioration to liver failure. Methimazole and propranolol were given to manage the patient's hyperthyroid symptoms. The association of hepatitis B with thyrotoxicosis and persistent jaundice is debatable, as is the extrahepatic manifestation of hepatitis B which trigger the relapse of hyperthyroidism. Combination management of two antivirals should be considered in protracted severe acute hepatitis to prevent liver failure.","PeriodicalId":503011,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Science and Dental Health","volume":"78 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141337780","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this study was to uncover crucial characteristics linked to STH infections and provide valuable insights for focused interventions. Additionally, the study attempted to assess the prevalence of STH among farmers and workers. Materials and Methods: a cross-sectional study that included individuals from agricultural communities was conducted. Structured interviews were carried out to gather sociodemographic data, habits, lifestyle factors, and awareness. The kato-katz method was used to analyze stool samples for the presence of helminths. Statistical techniques, such as chi-square tests and correlation coefficients, were used to evaluate the relationships between variables. Results: The prevalence of STH (Soil-Transmitted Helminths) was highest at 43.33% among patients aged 46-65. An important association was found between less experience (less than 20 years) and a higher prevalence of STH (p < 0.00001). Farmers demonstrated a greater prevalence compared to workers, although the difference was not statistically significant. The prevalence of STH was strongly influenced by handwashing habits, highlighting the crucial nature of maintaining consistent practices (p < 0.02). Individuals with a higher level of knowledge had a decreased prevalence of soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections, with a statistically significant p-value of 0.001867. Several helminths were detected, particularly Ascaris lumbercoids and Trichurs trichura. Age, personal protection equipment, access to clean water, handwashing, and specific helminths were positively correlated. Conclusion: This study offers a clear understanding of the various factors that affect the prevalence of STH. It highlights the significance of specific interventions that concentrate on enhancing hand cleanliness, ensuring access to uncontaminated water, and implementing protective measures.","PeriodicalId":503011,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Science and Dental Health","volume":"1 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141379318","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite the enormous advancements in medical research, there is still no substitute for blood, making blood transfusions a crucial component of contemporary healthcare. The study aimed to evaluate the discard reasons for blood components, particularly Fresh Frozen Plasma, Platelet Concentration, and Red Cell Concentration and to suggest possible strategies to reduce wastage. Methods: The Retrospective analysis of discarded blood components was carried out from July, 1st 2023 to December 31st 2023 in the blood bank of Parul Sevashram. Data was collected using a discard register and computer data of discard available in blood bank and was analysed in SPSS software version 26.0 and Microsoft Excel. The wastage rate was calculated with a percentage of total number of units wastage against the total number of collections. Results: A total of 4990 blood component were prepared out of which 706 blood component was discarded. The total discard ratio of the study was 14.14%. Total replacement donors were 83.91% and 16.31% were voluntary donations. The discard rate for PC, RCC, and FFP was 86.30%, 6.82%, and 2.01%. HbsAg was the most common reason for the discard due to seropositivity of TTIs. Conclusion: The Most common component discarded was platelet and the reason for discard was the date of expiry due to non-utilization. Seropositivity was the reason for discarding red cell concentration and leakage was the most common reason for fresh frozen plasma. The wastage can be reduced by implementing proper strategies such as FIFO policy, avoiding Mega camps, proper staff training and wastage reduced protocol.","PeriodicalId":503011,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Science and Dental Health","volume":"84 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141106032","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Then the glymphatic system was discovered, which ensures the drainage of waste products and toxins to the lymphatic system of the head. We have asked ourselves what problems from the mouth can weaken or block this drainage. There are a number of toxin-producing processes in the mouth that overload the lymphatic system. The most important issue appears to be that of osteolysis of the jawbone (NICO, FDOK), which increases the cytokine Rantes, with enzyme inhibition in the organism and especially in the brain. Through adequate diagnostics and therapy, we were able to normalize many processes, e.g. in the brain.","PeriodicalId":503011,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Science and Dental Health","volume":"34 23","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141103990","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Techniques in minimally invasive surgery (MIS), such as endoscopic retrograde appendicitis therapy (ERAT), single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS), and laparoscopic appendectomy, have become popular substitutes for open surgery. The purpose of this review is to assess the safety and effectiveness of MIS methods for treating acute appendicitis. A comprehensive analysis of English-language literature from 2019 to 2024 was carried out to evaluate the safety and efficacy of MIS procedures for acute appendicitis. Research that satisfied the inclusion requirements was examined for pertinent information on SILS, ERAT, and laparoscopic appendectomy. Compared to open surgery, laparoscopic appendectomy showed shorter hospital stays, less pain after surgery, and quicker recovery rates. Comparable to traditional laparoscopic methods in terms of effectiveness, SILS and TULS provide potential advantages in terms of cosmesis and patient satisfaction. With faster recovery durations and fewer complications, ERAT showed encouraging results; nonetheless, questions about long-term effectiveness and recurrence rates were raised. In order to treat acute appendicitis, MIS procedures provide viable options that may shorten hospital stays, ease postoperative pain, and increase patient satisfaction. More investigation is necessary to improve patient selection criteria and operative approaches in order to maximize the efficacy of MIS in the therapy of appendicitis.","PeriodicalId":503011,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Medical Science and Dental Health","volume":"41 19","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141113819","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
