Due to the rare condition, there are few cases and randomized control trials that report on the association with increased ICP. This case report discusses the importance of monitoring for symptoms of increased ICP and adverse effects of cyclosporine A, as this agent has been used in some cases of refractory MIS-C. Ultimately the patient in this case study experienced no significant long-term complications. Current clinical recommendations include intravenous immunoglobulins and corticosteroids as the first-line therapy and adding biologic therapies for refractory cases. Patients should be screened for obesity, as it is a risk factor for intracranial hypertension. Lastly, invasive ICP monitoring can be used for severe cases of intracranial hypertension.</div></div>","PeriodicalId":50094,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Pediatric Health Care","volume":"39 5","pages":"Pages 801-804"},"PeriodicalIF":1.8,"publicationDate":"2025-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"143788915","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although the physical effects and long-term consequences of obesity are well-documented, the psychological effects contribute to a cycle that worsens both weight gain and emotional distress. Teens with obesity experience social isolation, poor body image, and low self-esteem, increasing their risk for anxiety and depression. Their mental health burden is compounded by stigma and victimization. This fictional case report follows Jessica, a 15-year-old Black adolescent, as she navigates obesity alongside peer interactions, societal expectations, and challenges to self-confidence. Her experiences with weight-based stigma and social dynamics illustrate the interconnected relationship between mental health and obesity, shaped by broader social and environmental factors.
