The growing interest in healthy building has led to an expansion of sustainability concepts in the contemporary urban and architectural discourses, as well as the emergence of new assessment tools that specifically designed to address these issues. This study aims to identify the content scope and features of health-related topics covered by well-being centric building certification schemes that have emerged within this background, and to establish a theoretical foundation for the development of certification criteria applicable in Korea. Incorporating the different organizational structures of the internationally accepted WELL and Fitwel standards, seven themes of indoor air quality, thermal comfort, visual and acoustic comfort, activity, healthy eating & drinking, psychological well-being, and social well-being that can be used to re-categorize the content of the two standards were identified through recurring topics in the academic literature. Adopting this as an analytical framework, this study conducted a qualitative comparison of the detailed requirements of the two standards. The results of the study provide reference points and insights that contribute to the implementation of well-being-centric building certification scheme in Korea.","PeriodicalId":497757,"journal":{"name":"Korean Institute of Interior Design Journal","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136300672","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study analyzes user needs for the innovation of first grade classroom school spaces. For the study, (a) the types of first grade classroom improvements were classified and play types and characteristics were derived through a literature review; (b) a field survey was conducted and the behavior of students was observed; and (c) teachers and parents were surveyed on their satisfaction with the classroom environment and their demand for improvements. The results are as follows. First, after analyzing classroom usage behavior, it was found that it was necessary to improve the front blackboard, TV location, and personal lockers, which are mainly used during learning time. Second, through the analysis of play behavior, it was found that the characteristics of each classroom area were clarified, scattered group areas were concentrated in one place, and a complex facility plan was needed considering various play types, not just the classroom floor. Third, it was found that teachers were less satisfied than parents, and that improvements to the storage system, floor replacement, and front blackboard were needed. Fourth, as a demand for specialized spaces, teachers value play and rest areas, while parents relatively demand basic learning spaces such as reading and sitting rest areas. This study is meaningful in presenting a participatory design methodology and deriving a user-centered first grade classroom design direction.","PeriodicalId":497757,"journal":{"name":"Korean Institute of Interior Design Journal","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136300665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the purpose of this study is to focus on creativity and physical space, paying attention to the aspect of playfulness in the development of creativity. The goal is to extract the experiential characteristics in a playful space. The research methodology involves investigating the correlation between creativity and physical space through theoretical considerations and deriving the characteristics of creative development. Subsequently, the relationship between creativity and playful spaces is examined through the study of playful spaces, and the experiential factors in playful spaces are identified. Finally, the experiential factors derived from the study will be analyzed in the context of the Hyundai Card Space, examining how they manifest in real physical spaces. The experiential factors in playful spaces derived through the research are as follows: First, shared experience. Second, escapade experience. Third, stimulus experience. Fourth, choice experience. There are a total of four factors. Through case analysis, the results of analyzing actual expressions indicate that playful experiences can fulfill the environmental factors influencing creativity during adulthood. It requires careful consideration of how the space can engage the participants and influence their behaviors. Additionally, efforts should be made to create scalability, potential, and possibilities that can generate infinite outcomes. Shared experiences require a space that narrows the physical distance between participants and allows for programmatic support. Escapade experiences emphasize even small changes that differentiate them from everyday life. They enable individuals to experience something new and become aware of being exposed to a new environment. Stimulus experiences encourage participants to maintain and repeat actions, engaging their senses and creating a sense of tension. In the case of choice experiences, even small variations in elements can generate a multitude of possibilities. The outcome of the experience varies greatly depending on the position and options chosen by the participant.","PeriodicalId":497757,"journal":{"name":"Korean Institute of Interior Design Journal","volume":"136 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136300670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on a biophilia philosophical review of life-loving attitudes and values, we would like to study the characteristics and examples of biophilia public cultural spaces that communicate and have appropriate relationships in children’s growth stages. The city, which has been pursuing convenience and efficiency, has created a space that is cut off from environmental pollution. Research is needed on public cultural spaces where children can interact and have creative experiences in order to communicate with society and grow. Through examining the historical background and issues of Biophilia philosophy and reviewing the literature between various interdisciplinary institutions, we derived the components and characteristics-locality, sustainability, experience orientated, flexibility, playfulness, neutrality, totality- of the biophilia children’s public cultural space that can realize community education at the local level. Based on this, in order to identify the most contemporary design trends, we selected cases that have won awards in architecture and modern art since the 2000s or contributed to the growth of the community through the literature of a group of public space experts, to study geographically and culturally diverse cases, we analyzed the background, content, and implications of the cases in Northwestern Europe as well as in the United States and Africa. The results of the case analysis are as follows. First, most of the spaces have become joyful and participatory community spaces by opening up the possibility of various experiences and events. Second, the boundary between private and public spaces was opened so that children could use space equally by connecting local ground, materials, and people. Finally, in order to restore humanity, efforts to harmonize and space for children should be provided. Furthermore, it is hoped that this study can contribute to laying the discourse foundation for the role of public cultural spaces and the practice and direction at the regional level.","PeriodicalId":497757,"journal":{"name":"Korean Institute of Interior Design Journal","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136300671","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
