The purpose of this study is to diagnose problems with the current status and use of welfare facilities for the elderly and to use them as basic data for future spatial planning improvement plans. The research method was to visit eight survey subjects and conduct observation surveys, actual surveys, and operator interviews. Spatial composition, area composition status, service content, and actual use status by case were investigated, and conclusions on improvement measures were presented by comprehensive analysis. The results of this study are as follows. First, as changes and neglect occur in the use of space, it is necessary to survey the needs of the elderly during initial planning so that spaces with high demand can be planned first. Second, it is recommended to use the space for regularly used convenience facilities, and sufficient consideration must be given to the planned area to ensure that the program room is not altered. Third, there are differences in service content for each facility, and therefore, a more effective and efficient operating system guide as a local facility must be established through specific operating guidelines for integrated community care. Fourth, there is a lack of barrier-free design, so design guidelines that can be used safely and more conveniently are needed.","PeriodicalId":497757,"journal":{"name":"Korean Institute of Interior Design Journal","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136017868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pavilions have been built as the pivot point of surrounding urban setting as well as catalysts to revitalize various activities in urban plazas and spaces. They are anchors in place-making from which urban plazas can have the identity and image of their own and attract people into the places. The study analyzes pavilion designs based on the Relph’s theory of placeness which has the three components of design connecting, activity sharing, and meaning providing. The study also examines the five examples of the pavilion designs which are the Vieux Port Pavilion in Marseille, Stadspodium Rotterdam, the Plaza la Lira at Ripoll, Vierwindentuin Pavilion at Sint-Jans-Molenbeek, and the Pavilion in the city center at Gignac-la-Nerthe, and finds their important design qualities as follow. First, the pavilion designs play vital roles to make places unique by linking vistas and paths, by providing daily uses and special events and by symbolizing civic history and culture. Thus, the pavilions provide opportunities to experience places where visitors and neighbors sense daily niches, festivals, and civic events. With the pavilions, ordinary plazas and the corners of streets turn into new and meaningful places to people. Second, the pavilions in the public spaces link civic vistas for visitors as they locate at the edges of waterfronts between nature and buildings. The pavilions on the cross-paths of empty lots in building blocks, also, link pedestrian paths. In addition, the pavilions often act as visual frameworks and gate ways to cities, thus they are designed with horizontal roof lines and box frames that allow visual openness. Third, the pavilions in the public spaces often form giant urban canopies as well as the common roofs for communities without fixed usages. Thus the pavilions allow diverse activities in them such as leisure, promenades, and rests as well as large-sized performances and events. Therefore, the pavilions are often void open spaces with minimum utility functions to permit maximum flexibility. Fourth, the pavilions in the public spaces are symbolic markers that tend to express continuity of local culture and historic context. They tend to have the designs of traditional forms, ornaments, materials, and colors rather than formal originality and visual uniqueness. The roof designs of the pavilions are often parts to create uniqueness by reflecting or transmitting light in order to fuse with nature. The study finds the qualities of pavilion designs in ordinary urban spaces which makes the spaces into unique places. The examples of this study demonstrate that the designs are achieved by linking of physical arrangement, mediating activities, and symbolizing local cultures and historic contexts. Also, this research would suggest the future design direction of pavilions in urban contexts.","PeriodicalId":497757,"journal":{"name":"Korean Institute of Interior Design Journal","volume":"41 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136017871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Furthermore, this study aims to provide basic data for future planning and operating domestic aerial linear parks by identification of the characteristics of each case, and presentation of a plan. The results of the case analysis are as follows. First, the composition of the internal space experience program can be helped by the lower ground waterfront park if an aerial linear park is located on the waterfront. In the case of an aerial linear park located in the city center, help can be obtained by creating a passageway with surrounding buildings. Second, since performances such as holidays and various anniversaries and promotional events account for a large portion of the planning programs operated in the park, external space planning such as stages to accommodate them is necessary. Plan on the widest section of the walkway, and if it is difficult to organize the walkway and area separately, plan by connecting and expanding to the ground near the access road. Third, compared to the city center, the sculptures experience program of the aerial linear park located on the waterfront show the characteristic of actively utilizing LEDs in consideration of the night view. This is because the characteristic that the subject to be taken in the night view photo is set differently depending on the location of the aerial linear park. Therefore, the lighting plan and program should be varied per the subject of the night view photo.","PeriodicalId":497757,"journal":{"name":"Korean Institute of Interior Design Journal","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135989909","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results of the study are as follows. First, Siza’s church design is a representative example of the his attitude toward the tradition and history of architecture. In addition, because of the difference in time over 20 years, their comparison provides an opportunity to recognize changes in Siza’s architecture. Second, the comparison of the Siza’s church strengthens the sculptural tendency in the form composition, and the attempt to change the inner surface’s fragmentation tendency through overlapping faces can be inferred in his other designs. Third, Siza has a strict geometric composition in church design which seems to be the result of a modern reinterpretation of the traditional Western church form and consideration of the church’s liturgical rituals. Fourth, the Siza attempted various efforts to change the strictness and unity accompanying the geometric composition in church design. The formalist movement, which deviated from the expressionist idea in which “what and how to reproduce” was important, presented a new perspective, claiming “autonomy of art.”. Formalism discovered the limitations of art through the referential context of modernity and history, and redirected the focus of art towards its intrinsic order to resolve these limitations. This study aims to explore the characteristics of formalism that can be applicable to architecture by understanding its definition and nature. To achieve this, various characteristics of formalism observed in different fields will be analyzed, and examples of contemporary architecture based on formalism will be examined. In particular, the case studies of Peter Eisenman, Diniel Libeskind, Ben van Berkel, Rem Koolhaas (OMA), Valerio Olgiati, Sou Fujimoto, Alvaro Siza will be used to investigate the characteristics of formalism as an internal generative system in modern architecture. Furthermore, it is recognized that external factors such as society, culture, and context are excluded by focusing on the internal form, and that there are limitations in the acceptance of external factors. As a result, it is expected that the potential of a new formalism in architecture, which embraces the social, historical, and cultural context inherent in architecture and improves the shortcomings of formalist aesthetics, will be developed.","PeriodicalId":497757,"journal":{"name":"Korean Institute of Interior Design Journal","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135989914","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study examines the emotions and perceptions that exposed concrete elicits in people. The survey data was analyzed using images of four types visual elements of exposed concrete space (straight line, curve, color, and wood) and a questionnaire using the Semantic Differential (SD) method, analyzed with the SPSS 25 statistical analysis program. The results reveal that people associate exposed concrete finishing materials primarily with food and beverage and cultural spaces. Furthermore, younger generations tend to have a positive perception of exposed concrete finishing materials for indoor spaces, suggesting the possibility of further expansion in their use. The vocabulary used to describe the four types of exposed concrete spaces (comfortable, modern, sophisticated, and contemporary) represents the typical sensibility associated with exposed concrete spaces. Finally, based on the classification of positive and negative words, the color combination was identified as the most friendly and comfortable exposed concrete space, followed by curves, straight lines, and wooden materials with geometric patterns and arrangements. This study provides essential data for future research on indoor exposed concrete and exposed concrete space production.","PeriodicalId":497757,"journal":{"name":"Korean Institute of Interior Design Journal","volume":"252 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136300667","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a next-generation platform with high potential for industrial growth. Many brands are overcoming the limitations of existing offline stores and opening stores in the Metaverse world where a more immersive experience is possible. However, Metaverse retail is still limited to marketing use or event and has not been established as an actual shopping system. Therefore, research on more specific and practical implementation is required. Since the Metaverse is a virtual environment that exists based on the real environment, this study aims to understand the user experience characteristics and analyze the Metaverse shopping space element characteristics. In this paper, we analyze about Metaverse retail and derive spatial elements of Metaverse shopping based on existing physical shopping space. Then, experience design theories were studied and the evaluation factors of user experience design were derived. Based on the evaluation factors, four domestic cases of Metaverse retail were selected and spatial elements and experience design were evaluated. In terms of experience design, the effective of satisfying actual user needs was insufficient, and the secure was low due to uncertain system reliability. However, in some cases, the related of interaction between users, the attractive of pleasure, and the valuable of content were high in unreal environment of Metaverse. The Metaverse space elements derived and evaluation factors in terms of user experience design proposed in the study will help in the efficient implementation and development of Metaverse retail.","PeriodicalId":497757,"journal":{"name":"Korean Institute of Interior Design Journal","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136300669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study is to investigate space allocation of youth training facilities whether they are suitable based on local population characteristics, and analyze the characteristics of the youth population distribution in the targeted area, and investigate the degree of fit between the spatial types of youth training facilities, and the estimates of local demand based on GIS analysis. For this study, youth training facility cases recently built in Gyeonggi Province are selected. For GIS analysis, Q-Gis 3.8 program was used for identifying population characteristics according to age group. In addition, using GIS, the distributional characteristics of nearby cultural and sports facilities and compare them with the types of existing facilities. In cases, spaces for sports activities occupy a significant proportion of the total area in youth training facilities regardless of its size. The presence of sports facilities is influenced by the size of the youth training facility, and larger facilities tend to have a higher level of space integration for multi purpose functions. Larger spaces are allocated for educational function such as hobbies, and physical activities, whereas volunteer activities, clubs, and career exploration experiences are relatively limited. For younger students, facilities provide lower accessibility because of the walking distance range of the location of youth facilities. In light of the distribution of nearby cultural and sports facilities, cultural facilities are generally lacking, and the most of sports facilities are privately owned commercial and its types are monotonous.","PeriodicalId":497757,"journal":{"name":"Korean Institute of Interior Design Journal","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136300666","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
