A Study on Space Utilization of Youth Training Facilities based on GIS Population Data
Youth training facilities can be developed as “multipurpose facilities” linked to youth training activities since in 2018 after a policy changed. The purpose of this study is to investigate space allocation of youth training facilities whether they are suitable based on local population characteristics, and analyze the characteristics of the youth population distribution in the targeted area, and investigate the degree of fit between the spatial types of youth training facilities, and the estimates of local demand based on GIS analysis. For this study, youth training facility cases recently built in Gyeonggi Province are selected. For GIS analysis, Q-Gis 3.8 program was used for identifying population characteristics according to age group. In addition, using GIS, the distributional characteristics of nearby cultural and sports facilities and compare them with the types of existing facilities. In cases, spaces for sports activities occupy a significant proportion of the total area in youth training facilities regardless of its size. The presence of sports facilities is influenced by the size of the youth training facility, and larger facilities tend to have a higher level of space integration for multi purpose functions. Larger spaces are allocated for educational function such as hobbies, and physical activities, whereas volunteer activities, clubs, and career exploration experiences are relatively limited. For younger students, facilities provide lower accessibility because of the walking distance range of the location of youth facilities. In light of the distribution of nearby cultural and sports facilities, cultural facilities are generally lacking, and the most of sports facilities are privately owned commercial and its types are monotonous.
