The complexity of its presentation often makes timely diagnosis and intervention difficult. This case series presents two cases: a 35-year old male from rural Haryana, India, with environmental lead exposure resulting in cerebellar ataxia and microcytic anaemia, and a 30-year old battery factory worker with occupational exposure leading to motor neuropathy, nephropathy, and anaemia. These cases illustrate the diagnostic complexities associated with lead toxicity, particularly when serum lead levels do not reliably reflect the severity of exposure. The first case was linked to groundwater contamination, whereas the second case highlighted the impact of chronic workplace exposure despite apparently normal serum lead concentrations. Both cases demonstrated clinical improvement following exposure cessation and chelation therapy, emphasising the importance of early recognition and intervention. These case reports underscore the necessity of stringent environmental regulations, occupational safety measures, and heightened clinical awareness to mitigate lead-related morbidity.</p>","PeriodicalId":49415,"journal":{"name":"Tropical Doctor","volume":" ","pages":"494755251356758"},"PeriodicalIF":0.5,"publicationDate":"2025-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144610164","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most were under 5 years, and 86% required mechanical ventilation. Multisystem involvement included myocarditis (61%), CNS disease (32%), and haemophagocytosis (32%), with a high mortality rate (57%). Follow-up showed recurrent wheeze (33%) and bronchiectasis (16%) in survivors. Jejuno-jejunal intussusception is especially uncommon and usually linked to benign lesions. Symptoms are vague, including colicky abdominal pain, vomiting and gastrointestinal bleeding, often delaying diagnosis until exploratory laparotomy. We present two cases of adult jejuno-jejunal intussusception caused by inflammatory fibroid polyps (IFPs), rare benign submucosal tumours mostly found in the stomach and rarely (4.3%) in the jejunum. The first case involved a 17-year old male with abdominal pain, melaena, anaemia and renal dysfunction; surgery revealed a jejunal mass, confirmed as IFP. The second case was a 34-year old female with bowel obstruction from a jejunal mass also identified as IFP. Imaging may mimic malignancy such as gastro-intestinal stromal tumor (GIST) or lymphoma, but histopathology confirms diagnosis. Surgical resection is curative with excellent prognosis.</p>","PeriodicalId":49415,"journal":{"name":"Tropical Doctor","volume":" ","pages":"267-269"},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2025-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"144530714","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
