Since its ongoing and growing adaptation activities are inconsistent with insufficient and limited theoretical research, this study reviews transcultural film adaptation research to bring fresh insights into the adaptation area. Based on adaptation research results, it alludes to related studies, such as cross-cultural communication and international communication, and defines transcultural film adaptation-related terms. It then reviews comparative case study method and fidelity studies to, on the one hand, summarize the research methodology and adaptation strategies and, on the other hand, respond to the two foundational questions surrounding adaptation raised by Leitch: the value of case study and the notion of fidelity. Instead of attacking fidelity or exaggerating the value of creativity, this paper contends that a reconciling relationship exists between fidelity and creativity in transcultural film adaptation, i.e. the creative transformation of culture.","PeriodicalId":487075,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136343167","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The concept of instructional leadership has evolved through school effectiveness around the 1980s and considers school leaders important in promoting teacher knowledge to student learning. However, instructional leadership cannot be implemented to the maximum due to constraints of practising the function of instructional leadership, lack of practice and unpreparedness in carrying out their role as instructional leaders. This study aims to validate an instructional leadership instrument utilising exploratory factor analysis (EFA). The questionnaire used in this study was modified from Hallinger and Murphy's (1985) study. There were 137 teachers from public primary schools who replied, representing all subjects and levels. Respondents at schools were chosen based on clustered random sampling. The results of the EFA indicated three components of instructional leadership: 1) defines the mission, 2) manages the instructional program, and 3) promotes the school climate. Clearly, the three components explained 66.164% of the total variance explained. Note that Bartletts' Test of Sphericity is highly significant (sig. 000), and the sampling adequacy (Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO)=0.934) is excellent. Other than that, the three components have Cronbach's Alpha values greater than 0.7, significant addition to measuring instructional leadership, particularly in the Malaysian context. The EFA results generated a configuration that extracts three components, which may be measured by 42 items established in this research, indicating that the elements apply to this study.","PeriodicalId":487075,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136343028","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research utilizes a quantitative research approach and includes survey responses from 378 individuals in the Klang Valley region of Malaysia. Data was collected through online surveys disseminated via popular social media platforms. The majority of respondents were female, aged between 21 and 30, Malay, and held a bachelor's degree or higher. The study employed frequency distribution, descriptive, reliability, and correlation analyses to explore the association between social media usage and mental health outcomes. The findings suggest a modest positive correlation between social media usage and mental health outcomes during the pandemic. However, after controlling for confounding variables, this relationship lost significance, indicating that social media usage alone may not be a reliable predictor of mental health outcomes. Furthermore, the study identified significant relationships between social media usage and economic factors, government factors, the theory of uses and gratification, and media trends. The study highlights the potential benefits of social media in government communication but recommends further research to assess the effectiveness of government initiatives utilizing social media in addressing mental health concerns during the pandemic.","PeriodicalId":487075,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135126619","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The patterns of children growing, developing, playing, socializing and communicating have changed a lot in line with the times and the latest facilities. Now children and teenagers are closer to technology and even more comfortable learning and connecting using technology. As the main driver of national education, teachers have a major role to play in imparting knowledge in various methods and strategies that are deemed appropriate. Technology integration in the classroom has been a challenge for education systems to meet the demands of 21st century learning needs. A systematic literature review was conducted on blended learning approaches in education by analysis and synthesis. Multiple databases such as Springer Link, Taylor & Francis, Sage E-Journal and Wiley were used as search engines for related articles during the period 2017-2021. The results show that blended learning approach was mostly researched in higher education and initially focused on students. The majority of blended learning approach research is also coming from developing countries, leading to the need to make blended learning approach adoption easier in particular. Teachers, students, and institutions frequently face issues related to a lack of ICT infrastructure and specialization. The results of this study can be used to develop a plan towards blended learning approach adoption.","PeriodicalId":487075,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135083333","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Focusing on two types of crimes, fighting and robbery, it aims to show the evidence of personality traits in their handwriting. Drawing from a larger sample, the data was obtained from three youth inmates who were involved in fighting and robbery. The handwriting of the three youth inmates showed at least two or more characters of \"hell traits\" associated with fighting and robbery. These characters include A.M., M.F. and S.M., as revealed by the connotations in their handwriting. The study findings could be helpful to the government and its agencies to reduce and control crime, and more importantly, detect deviant traits among young people. More studies need to be done using more extensive data and multiple methods to ascertain the criminal behaviour of youths.","PeriodicalId":487075,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136344232","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using qualitative methods, a group of 20 participants was studied, with three students selected for situational writing assessment. Halliday's (2004) metafunctions framework-ideational, interpersonal, and textual-guided the analysis of their compositions. The findings revelaed revealed that students 1, 2, and 3 adeptly employed these metafunctions. The ideational dimension was used to coherently present reasons for incomplete homework while maintaining thematic consistency. Interpersonally, the students employed respectful tones, expressed contrition, commitment, appreciation, and responsibility. Textually, their work exhibited logical structure and cohesion. Through the integration of these metafunctions, students enhanced their communication strategies. The study underscores the significance of metafunction awareness in language education, suggesting that incorporating ideational, interpersonal, and textual dimensions can elevate writing proficiency. It offers guidance for adaptable communication, nurtures comprehensive communication skills, and establishes transferable proficiencies and assessment criteria. Ultimately, this research contributes to effective communication pedagogy across diverse contexts, showcasing the nuanced strategies students employ to connect with authors and readers.","PeriodicalId":487075,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136342906","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
