Children's learning outcomes have been adversely affected by natural and human disasters since their inception. This paper employs a scoping review approach to investigate the influence of environmental shocks and child labour on children's educational outcomes. Numerous empirical studies have been screened in this study to determine how environmental shocks and child labour influence children's educational outcomes. This present study is the most recent research to examine the influence of environmental shocks and child labour on children's educational outcomes. This study found that environmental shocks (death, climate variability, flooding, and hurricanes) are positively associated with child labour and negatively related to children's learning outcomes, while child labour (farming, domestic chores, fishing, and hawking) has a negative influence on children's educational outcomes. This study also found that the interaction effect of environmental shocks and child labour has detrimental impacts on children's learning outcomes. Available literature has shown that research on the influence of environmental shocks and child labour on children's education and environmental shocks on child labour is still growing. More studies are needed on the influence of other kinds of environmental shocks and child labour on children's educational outcomes as well as the influence of environmental shocks on child labour, particularly on the African continent. Subsequently, research focused on the mental health sequelae of increased depression and anxiety, but the possible impacts on adolescents’ social well-being have been largely unexamined. Social well-being is essential to youth’s overall mental health and can be diminished even without symptoms of depression and anxiety. This report explored heterogeneities in changes in adolescents’ social well-being from pre-COVID-19 to post-restrictions using longitudinal data from adolescents attending middle and high schools in California (<i>N</i> = 1,299; 49.9% female). Data collection involved four observations. Participants completed a school-based mental health wellness survey annually from 2019 to 2022. A latent profile analysis identified five profiles demonstrating distinctive social well-being trajectories. Two ordered profiles included Stable-High (28%) and Stable-Low (26%) patterns. Three groups represented nonordered profiles labeled as Succumbing (20%), Languishing (14%), and Recovering (12%). Pervasive decreases in social well-being were observed, and a significant portion of the adolescents did not recover to their pre-COVID-19 level by 2022. Adolescents in the Stable-High and Recovering profiles showed better psychological well-being, optimism, and school connectedness and less distress than their counterparts in the other three profiles. Mental health professionals should be aware of the pandemic’s effects on adolescents’ social well-being. It also increases children's vulnerability to common diseases, impairs recovery, and stunts their physical and mental development. This paper investigates the state of child health and the assessment of health inequalities in children under 5 years, utilising Multiple Indicators Cluster Surveys across 36 districts in Punjab, Pakistan. We suggest a new household-based health index to identify health disparities and to help policymakers implement more successful domestic policies to offset inequalities. Additionally, this study estimates the health disparities for robustness checks applying the Palma ratio and Gini coefficient. The study's findings revealed that every second child in Punjab is malnourished and that 51% of children in Punjab had not received all of their recommended vaccinations. The results also show that health disparities in low-income districts are worse than in high-income districts. The findings further demonstrate that important contributors to health disparities include parental illiteracy, poverty, and political backwardness. This paper focuses on the development and validation of a Child Health Index (CHI) for India. Using publicly available data at the district level and principal component analysis, this index is composed of 16 variables representing six domains namely socio-cultural, child health status, determinants of child health (both risk and protective factors), household environment and health system and policy. Several statistical tests were conducted to provide internal and external validation. The application to predict child mortality confirmed its validation. This study thus provides a new tool for characterising child health and detecting child health inequalities at a district level in India. Although the general developmental trends of subjective well-being in adolescents have been investigated, the longitudinal differences in the developmental trajectory of subjective well-being in early adolescents remain unclear. This study aimed to explore the developmental trajectory of subjective well-being and examine the predictive roles of gender and parental involvement in this developmental trajectory among Chinese early adolescents. A longitudinal design was used with 2,483 middle students who were followed up across three time points (T1, T2 and T3). The growth mixture model (GMM) analysis showed three subgroups within the developmental trajectory of the subjective well-being of Chinese early adolescents: high-rising (53.3%), moderate-decline (39.7%) and low-decline (7.0%). Furthermore, group membership was predicted by gender, parental academic involvement and parental academic pressure. A sample of 291 children responded orally to questions about the most important aspects of their lives, and parents reported on their children's meaning in life using parent-reported questionnaire. Attachment patterns and Theory-of-Mind abilities were examined as possible antecedents of individual differences in meaning in life. Self, parental and preschool teachers' reports were obtained to assess the children's functioning and well-being. The findings indicated that preschool children are able to articulate their sense of meaning in life. Meaning in life increased with age and was partly mediated by Theory-of-Mind development. Securely attached children expressed more meaning in life than children classified as disorganized or avoidant/insecure. A significant association was found between self and parental reported meaning in life and children's socio-emotional and preschool functioning and well-being. Three measurement models (a correlated factors model, a second-order two-factor model, and a bifactor model) were analysed using a large sample of English adolescents (<em>n</em> = 37, 630) to test whether the theoretical separation between hedonic and eudemonic wellbeing is empirically supported, and whether there is the possibility of essential unidimensionality. The income distribution and changes among Colombian children are analyzed using the probability density function and growth incidence curve. The paper utilizes the Foster–Greer–Thorbecke methodology to measure child poverty in Colombia, decomposes the contributions of different subgroups to child poverty and its changes, and conducts a growth-distribution decomposition of changes in child poverty. The study also employs income-source decomposition to examine the contributions of different income sources to child inequality and its changes. The results show that Colombian children experienced a decline in income, an increase in inequality, and higher levels of poverty during the COVID-19 pandemic. Children from households with higher dependency ratios and those living in rural areas were more likely to experience poverty. The main driver of increased poverty among Colombian children was decreased income, and there was a significant worsening of inequality for ultra-poor children. Labor income emerged as the primary source of inequality and its changes, whereas capital income and private transfers played a role in reducing poverty. However, public social benefits slightly increased inequality levels. Overall, the recession caused by the COVID-19 pandemic is antipoor but pro-ultra-poor. This study adopts a child-centric perspective, focusing on children as active social agents, in order to scrutinize the determinants influencing their life satisfaction. The overarching objectives of this investigation are twofold: (1) to investigate the potential mediating role of perceived neighborhood quality in the link between community violence and children’s life satisfaction, and (2) to investigate the moderating role of collectivism in shaping the associations between community violence, perceived neighborhood quality, and life satisfaction. The sample encompasses 13,730 children (mean age = 9.95 years, 50.35% boys) hailing from 13 distinct countries, which is sourced from the third wave of the Children’s Worlds: International Survey of Children’s Well-Being (ISCWeB). Liner multilevel models reveal a significant indirect effect of community violence on children’s life satisfaction via perceived neighborhood quality. In addition, the effect of community violence on perceived neighbourhood quality is stronger for children who live in individualist culture, while the effect of perceived neighbourhood quality on life satisfaction is stronger for children who live in collectivist culture. This distance creates conditions for the development of self-regulation and motivation for achievement. The article presents a study of the structure of subjective well-being (SWB) of senior schoolchildren. The study involved 3,282 students in grades 7–11 living in the Tyumen Region of the Russian Federation. The instrumentation used in the study was the author-developed questionnaire based on the questionnaire of The International Survey of Children’s Well-Being – Children's World. The authors suggest that the study of subjective well-being of high school students should more accurately and reliably measure children's desires and evaluations. In addition to the Family, School, Health, and Safety factors, the factor analysis allowed us to identify new factors – Agency and Romance which received high factor loadings. Dispersing the factors of SWB of high school students in the system of desired and real evaluations allowed us to identify internal contradictions. The research design offers the high school students to answer identical questions from two perspectives: how they evaluate the fact that a particular indicator is present in their lives (real level), and how important it is to them (desired level). In the system of evaluations of SWB by high school students, the desired level of factors appeared to be slightly higher than the real one. A two-stage cluster analysis in the space of selected factors made it possible to divide schoolchildren into 3 cluster groups: Romantics, Conformists, and Rebels. The study proves once again that there is no universal formula for well-being.
